Great idea. The game  kinda felt crazily unstable, with a lot of janky animations and flickering graphics, which for this jam worked perfectly! I loved the idea, and it really fits the 1-button theme. Well done!

This was a neat implementation of the modifier, and I loved the surf rock soundtrack and general beachfront theme. The drawings are quite nice and the title even has a nice ring to it.

The idea of using the cursor to denote different moves is pretty cool, but it does take a while to get used to. It took me about 6 tries to get to the end.

I also wasn't entirely sure what was an obstacle and what wasn't, it clearly says on the game page what to avoid and how to do it, but I was running into obstacles and saw no evidence of being damaged. It seemed like objects only start doing damage once you reach the first dog. In the same vein it didn't seem like sunlight did any damage so I never used the option to cover drac except out of curiosity. And I don't know if its supposed to do anything or if its intentionally broken but the big purple bar in the top right didn't do anything. I assume its supposed to be a health bar?

In any case its a cute concept with an interesting execution. Nice job!

Thought this was a really cool way to use the one button modifier

Thank you!! 🧛‍♂️

The gameplay concept here is a little different and it's a neat idea to use the positioning of the cursor to perform actions. I found it to be very, very difficult to play in practice, though. The objects are almost impossible to tell from the background, the hitboxes aren't clear, and movement speed seems to be tied to an unstable framerate, which all makes the game difficult and causes a disconnect between what I'm doing and what's happening on screen.

While the graphics and audio aren't perfect, they're pretty good, and in my mind not really in "so bad it's good" territory. In fact in general I feel this is a good game that needs a bit of tweaking. It just doesn't really hit that "so bad it's good" sweet spot for me.

Thank you!!!
I think we maybe went a bit overboard with everything for our first game jam, haha.
Yeah, if we had more time we could have tweaked it a lot to make it more playable and make the hitboxes more intuitive.

The graphics looked great and i loved the soundtrack for the game. Must say though, the background objects were a bit confusing especially picking out what to dodge and what is safe. Still though, great entry

Developer

Thank you!!!
Yeah, the obstacles and controls are kind of janky and hard to dodge, haha.
We learned a lot from this jam! Thanks for playing!

The graphics as previously noted are very colorful, but maybe they’re too good for this particular jam ;)… Aside from the shoddy UI, everything here is adorable, from the characters to the obstacles you’re supposed to avoid to the background gags to the premise itself.

As for the gameplay itself, I agree with y’all that it is janky. I managed to go past the two dogs after a lot of trial and error; there isn’t enough contrast between the background and foreground so what I was supposed to avoid and what’s just a background detailed fizzled out. But then I died a bit afterwards for reasons I do not understand? I tried everything.

Anyways. If you are going to make a post-jam version I’d recommend maybe trying to go for an endless randomized runner with very obvious encounters rather than a predetermined sequence of actions as it is now. It will make replaying the game more varied and also give you a chance to prioritize what is and isn’t relevant to the game itself.

Thank you for playing and your review!
I think we would like to take what we learned during this and try to expand on it more, that is a good idea for the post-jam version you suggested!

A really nice idea, although after 10 attempts, I still couldn't get past the first dog, which is probably on me.  The graphics and sound were really good.  Maybe too good for this particular jam...  Great work, anyway.

Developer

Thank you!

The controls are a little janky, you gotta fly over the dog. Hover your mouse on the top are of the screen and press space, or any key on the keyboard works (one button).

Maybe our team went a little overboard for the art and music (they are very skilled😅).

Loved the backstory behind Dracula. Just would've loved the obstacles to stand out more. Unless that was part of the 'bad' you were going for. Overall a hilarious game with a great soundtrack!

Developer

Thank you!!
Um.... maybe that was the 'bad' we were going for......

Thank you! Our team learned a lot during this jam! Maybe we can expand this game some more with what we learned.
