I absolutely loved this game! I was in tears by the end! Beautiful story with such emotion, with characters that feel alive. I can't wait for the GB version to come out, and I hope that it will feature color on the GBC (which I own). This is without doubt the best game I have ever played. 5 Stars

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yes, the cart version will be color.  I'm hoping to finish it up this spring or summer. It's taking a bit longer than anticipated to convert to color version, add music, iron out bugs and add French translation. If you feel like it and want to be notified when it's done please follow me on Itch or Twitter.

great little game, loved it a lot.

Wow, i'm totally impressed! Very, very emotional! I almost cried. Thank you for making this gem!

how the heck did you get midi music/sounds working?

getting non harsh sounds through using a tracker has been my main concern in making a GB Studio game

It was a bit tricky. There's Javascript that hooks onto the Gameboy memory and that triggers mp3 sound sprites.

this was not the game i thought i'd be playing when I started... a ride from start to finish. truely one of those hidden gems that will stick with me for a while.

very good game. when they say "you didn't know you were choosing" sums it all up pretty well. Incredible game with an amazing message. Thank you.

I really admire the "show, don't tell" aspect of this game and how its shown in many different ways.

Throughout half the game I thought I was a ninja and that was why they couldn't see me, I understand now I was mistaken. Cute game, it made me sad.

It's hard for me to describe this game without spoiling it, so I won't go into the story or the gameplay too terribly much! Spoiler-free, though, gameplay is really enjoyable - smooth and responsive, like any good retro-inspired game should be!

TYA was more emotional than I really expected it to be, and I really enjoyed that! The way that the game deals with time is also extremely interesting, something that I'd love to see implemented in other games! Visually it's stunning, and the little secrets to find were really cute~!

All-in-all, you should play this game. It's a one-and-done game and you'll have a great time with it! Kudos to ANV - this one's a gem~!

That was more than a game, I can't think of anything that took the mechanics and conventions of games and made poetry of them. Congratulations, it was very moving. (I think that's a pun).

Very cool game. The story, although I didn't fully understand until the end, was quite thought provoking. I did a play through on my YouTube as well! I hope you get some recognition for this game!

Hello ! I had an amazing time playing this game, discovering bit by bit (hehe) the meaning of it, the characters' stories, the hike though life.I'm always impressed by those games made with GB Studio, what a blessing !

I saw that a portugese person proposed to translate your game. I'm a Franch person and I can do it too in my language if you are interested.

My discord is FrenchCookie#8768

Best regards !

Thank you for the translation! The French version will be ready for everyone in a few weeks to a month!

Such a beautiful and moving game... The music did a very good job at setting the mood as well, it had me feel quite anxious at times as the story became intense! May I ask what your inspiration was for this concept?

Thanks for playing the game! I've had the idea of a character walking through time in the back of my mind for a long time. I let it take shape as I worked on it so it's hard to say what specific inspiration. Maybe a bit of Link's Awakening, Edith Finch or Outer Wilds?

Both the stories of Link's Awakening and Edith Finch (unfortunately I haven't played Outer Wilds) were very moving (and so sad!) as well. I think you have really managed to grasp similar strength their stories hold, and used it to tell your own stories. Do you plan to make more story games?

You can bet your firstborn I will!

Hahaha XD Looking forwards to it!

Okay last question. I make (branching) story games (in unity) too sometimes. What do you recommend to use to plan your stories? Do you write it in a document like google sheets or docs or do you use software like twine or yarn spinner? Keeping track of the story has always been a major challenge for me. What do you use?

I use a text file for most projects. To keep it organized I use indenting or my own hashtags to link related content of the file together.

Loved it. Felt many emotions throughout when I played it.

Very good story, sounds, and atmosphere!

I like how sometimes you are glimpsed, like by the dog, or when she was hurt, though I was a bit confused by "I'm not dead yet you vulture!" since it was said as you leave, so I thought at first that I was supposed to do something - it would have been clearer if it was said when you approach.

I like how much expression is in where people look, how they pause, start to do something and stop and such - the dog even looked old by the way he moved. I like how in the past that could have been, the past self glimpses the future self. I also like the climb up the mountain passing through the seasons of life - the arrangements of the scenery were able to make it feel very high up, even on the limited screen.

How many secrets are there? Is there ever anything in the two forest spots off the path?

Thank you for a very good story!

(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed it. There are about 6 or 7 secrets, depending on what you consider a secret.  Some of them are very minor. The more 'major' secrets have to do with the river. I'll leave the forest spots a mystery for now...

this art is great!

this was really lovely. the way you used colours & screen transitions was very cool. when playing through i was surprised (and a bit unhappy) that a choice i made had a big impact since i didn't know it would, but then as i played through the way the choice presented itself made sense (and i like that this is brought up in the ending too).

Thanks! I'm glad the choice worked for you. If you didn't see and are interested, here is the process I went through trying to "fix" it and arrive at it's current form.

absolutely loved the animals <3

it's very lovely, i really dig it!

Really great example of story telling without relying on graphics.

Interested in seeing what else the Dev will come up with

How can a game make me so sad and happy at the same time! This is a freaking masterpiece.

(+1)

Amazing. This is a work of art. The emotional story is beautiful. Nearly everything about this game, I love.

The only problem is a few glitches. For example: Playing the woman, her hair would occasionally turn black.

Overall, 9/10.

Thanks for the feedback. The hair flickering was supposed to be intentional. I've removed it for now because several people thought it was a bug.

Holy cow you made front page! Proud of you dude!
