In what way does your game fit the theme?
The player has no control over his movement apart from jumping and is constantly moving in a single direction.

Throughout the level there are e.g. "Play" and "Rewind" boxes which he can hit, upon which the direction will change according to the type of box.

Play makes the level go Right.
Rewind makes the level go Left.

Then there is also a special type of box which will make all the Play boxes into Rewind boxes and vice versa. This makes for an interesting gameplay.

Did you write most of the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
I wrote all the code and made all the visuals myself. The sound and font i downloaded. Credit due has been given in my game page.

Nice game and concept. I got stuck on the side of the block fairly frequently though.

I got nothing to say (that others have not commented already).

Good work on the game!

Developer

Thank you for your feedback :) Yes, wish i found out about the bug during playtest :( Was an easy fix.

I like the core mechanic a lot,

but it is possible to get stuck. A walk animation would do a lot too!

In general the  game is fun to play

Developer

Thank you for your feedback ^^ Yes, an animation would be nice. Tried it but wasn't real happy with the result so ended up moving on. Art is definitely not my cup of tea hehe

I loved the music and the main game mechanic. The minimalist style is also pretty nice. I do have some points for you to improve your game:

  • Some of the jumps are almost impossible as you have to time it pixel perfect. Consider making the jumps more forgiving, except when there's a huge reward if you make it.
  • The first level should be even more simple and quick to complete to teach the game mechanic.
  • The player doesn't fall down when hitting the side of the "block switches". I got stuck when I jumped up and hit the side of the block instead of the bottom (see screenshot). In this case, I'd expect the character to drop back down or maybe even die.

Good work on the game and congrats on your first release on itch.io!

Thanks for the solid feedback ^^

Damn!! we had very similar ideas for our games. Difference is, in my game the buttons effect the environment but not the player.

Loved the game. May be have a few short initial levels to get the player used to the game and then gradually make it difficult.

Hehe, untill Friday morning, the day before the deadline, i had the game built in such a way that only the terrain moves and the player doesn't. Was pretty crazy to watch. Problem is that on Friday i ran into a big bug where the player would get stuck on a wall and wouldn't slide off it. It had to do with how Unity handles physics and that i used Transform.Translate() for the grid terrain.

So after trying out so many other things to make it work, nothing did and i quickly had to rewrite a few things haha :D

I agree that it could use some more level progression. Thanks for your feedback ^^ I'll come and try out your game later today

Glad u could sort things out 😁

hey this is a really nice game

things i encountered:

i like the art and music simple and nice. the jump was very good haha.

the game stucks when the player touches the cubes sideways. in that case i needed to restart the game. even with bug the game is nice  restart button would have helped so much.

hope you have time to rate mine too..

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your feedback ^^ Yes, seems there's a bug with it. Restart was just one of those things i wanted to add but ran out of time to do :) Later today i'll come and try out your game too :) Thanks

Nice game. I enjoyed the art style! However, for some reason it took me forever to get through the first level. I think I was really bad at it, and I kept smacking the side of the platforms.  Other than my own faults, good game!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for your feedback ^^ Yes, think the main improvement would be to make the jumping easier and smoother on the player; less jump delay, bit more time ungrounded etc hehe :) Thx for playing!

Loved the level design. Maybe with more time you can polish the graphics and the movement. Congratulations for the idea and the execution!

Thank you for your feedback ^^ Not planning on polishing this game but it was a really good experience. Learnt lots of things and managed to put some theory to practice and bring it all together. Gonna give yours a try.

Fun game, though it feels a bit too slow and I think I softlocked the game by moving into the button block.

Developer

Thank you for your feedback ^^

Can you explain more in detail what happened that you got softlocked?

Submitted

I like the music, the art is quite simple and nice.

The game feels nice, but the controls are a bit slow & there might be a critical bug.

I think I got stuck on what seems to be a box that activates platforms. It was just standing on the side and stopped.

Overall a nice concept but that doesn't really work well with no controls the way the mechanics are implemented.

Good job finishing your game in the game jam! :)

Thank you for your feedback ^^

Haven't been stuck on that one yet myself but i have had it happen on another location in the level which i ended up redesigning because of that reason. It was a bit different but maybe it is the same bug. Will try and find what causes it.

I agree that adding in more control for the player would be better. But being very novice in all this and due to time restrictions, i had to make tough decisions. Feature creep is real hehe.

Cool concept, Love the graphic and audio design, but it's frustrating when you hit a wall you also miss the only chance in the level and have to go through entire level again.

Developer

Yes, totally agree. Like Brackeys mentioned, playtesting is important and i barely did because my gf never had time for it. Will keep that in mind for the future and maybe ask the community to help me playtest so i don't have to rely on her for it.  Thank you for your valuable feedback ^^

Great stuff, interesting mechanic that reminded me a little of games like lemmings where you don't have direct control of the character. Simple visual design worked really well and everything was very clear. Some of the jumps were a little difficult, especially where the solution to the puzzle was clear, but really good job!!

Developer

Glad you liked it. Thank you for the feedback :) I will come and try out your game ^^
