I hesitated for a long time, but I want to share what this game is really about. The intent of this game is a story where you slip on a banana peel and end up traveling through time. That brief moment isn't perceived by the player, which is why the scene transitions so quickly. Even if your base falls at the start, you stay trapped in that time loop until you win, returning to right before you slipped. Since you can't bring memories back from the previous loop, you slip on the banana peel again with no idea what happened, and the time loop begins.

And here's the most important design: every time you lose, the enemy's max HP decreases by 10%. This is the design that makes it so that as long as you don't give up, you can't help but eventually clear the game.

One of my design philosophies is "show, don't tell," and it seems I failed at it this time. That's a shame. Thank you all so much for the great feedback.

I felt like the monkeys have way more powerful troops than the monkeys, I think the bananas would have benefited from 1 or 2 more different troops. I like the simple art and music, Good work!

Developer

Good point! I actually had more stages planned, but working solo I just couldn't fit it all in within the time limit. I'll work on adding more troop variety next time. Thanks for playing!

the art looks good but there is no animation and it'S kinda plank without animations but the game is good

Developer

Yeah, animations would have made a big difference. Working solo, I couldn't quite get to that part, so I just relied on movement effects. I'll work on it next time. Thanks for playing!

Cool graphics! But the game have drawbacks
1) animations - i haven't managed to understand anything yet, and monkeys are already running at me (i just started and didn't have time to read what to do)
2) as i understand it, does the fighter's size system affect damage and HP? If that' the case, then it's more noticeable in monkeys than in bananas)

I've read your post and i understand the reasons the problems, but i'd rather tell them honestly)

i'm sorry if  i sounded rude >_<
Game a cool and funny, but i want to tell about the problems

Developer

First of all, I'm deeply moved by your thoughtful and considerate approach. Thank you so much. The intro was inspired by Zhuangzi's "Butterfly Dream" (胡蝶之夢). I wanted to give the feeling of something starting in a disjointed way, like the contents of a dream, so I directed it that way. It actually doubles as a hint for how to think about strategy. The intent was that you'd read it and then act, but I didn't block players from acting before reading either.

The reason I implemented the size system was to create a difference between the front and back layers, to solve the problem of units overlapping and becoming hard to see. But it didn't really work. In real life, things in front are larger and things behind are smaller, but I realized too late that I should have done it the opposite way for clarity.

And I'm sorry for the confusion. The size system doesn't affect HP or damage at all. It came purely from thinking about how things should appear to the player visually. I considered adding new sprites for the back layer, but I didn't have the energy left for that, so I reused the same images.

Thanks to your thoughtful consideration, I can feel my cold and empty heart, drained of energy, being filled again. Thank you so much for the careful feedback.

no problem! i'm was glad to help you)

There's a surprising amount of strategic depth! I really enjoyed beating the game, and it was funny too!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for clearing my game! I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

I persevered and finally got my win!

Still not sure, what the best tactic is for sending the different banana types in. Usually it's tanks first, range-based after. But it doesn't work that well here =)

Congrats for your submission!

Developer(+1)

Awesome! You didn't give up! There's no single right strategy, but I kept things simple so the game can be cleared in multiple ways. Thanks for playing it through to the end!

Submitted(+1)

It's cool, the gameplay is clear, the tactic of just clicking buttons didn't work😅, it's a bit short

Developer

Thanks for playing! Simple, but you can't beat it simply :D Thanks for letting me know my intent came through!

Funny game, its sad that is probably impossible to win but i like the idea, check my game if you have time, thank you

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! I designed it so that as long as you don't give up, you can win.

This game is like "Battle Cats"! But it's impossible to win. But visual a pretty. And game have a bananas, but theme time travel...

Developer

Thanks for playing! I designed it so that as long as you don't give up, you can win. As for the theme, I tried to express time travel through the design itself rather than visuals, so it makes sense that it might not have come through clearly. That's something I want to work on for next time.

Hahaha, the game is very funny and pleasant. Yes, it's small, but it's great for a jam. I really enjoyed playing it. Good  job!

Had fun! Couldn't quite finish it though — beat the big monkey twice but kept getting pushed back each time. The art style is great. Solid jam entry, good luck! 🍌

This was very cute! It gave me stick wars or like a vertical 2d bloons td vibe! I will admit I did not manage to win. I defeated 2 of the boss monkeys, but couldn't defeat the flow of enemies after that. Overall it felt smooth, and If it had maybe an upgrade or two, "Bananas per second" or "Banana Soldier Price" or something I feel it would deepen the strategy. Overall good job! I love the art!

Thanks for playing! And thank you for the detailed feedback. I actually wanted to add more features like that, but I ran out of time and had to cut them, which is a shame. I'm planning to try out different genres to figure out where my strengths are, so I probably won't apply your feedback to this specific game, but I'll definitely keep it in mind and use it in future projects. Thank you for the kind words!

That’s the life for game jams 🤣, don’t worry everyone cuts stuff constantly to complete the project. It’s actually kind of a blessing? It teaches us how to conclude a project in a limited time span. Best of luck in your future endeavors. Following!

It's a fun game. There is a particular strategy with which you can absolutely annihilate the monkeys, and every other strategy you get slaughtered. I was having a real tough time with it, but then I sat still for a second and thought about it. Then I came up with a decent strategy. Then I just watched as the giant army of monkeys got absolutely bombarded by an ungodly horde of sentient bananas.

I don't love having the two options for unit types because the two aren't balanced at all (the $10 banana is objectively a better value per unit currency than the $20, and there really isn't much of a niche for the $20 to fill because the field of battle is so small). But otherwise the game is really fun.

    And the game is adorable!

    Developer

Thanks for playing! While playtesting this game, I actually found 6 different viable strategies to clear it. One of them is clearing it using only the $20 ranged units. If you intentionally sacrifice your base and let only one enemy ranged monkey remain, then summon your ranged bananas, I set it up so the enemy projectiles fly right over their heads. That way you can stack 6 or more ranged bananas, and if you then keep producing $10 melee bananas, you can clear it on your first try fairly easily. It does require a bit of luck though.

Really glad you enjoyed the game! I'll keep thinking about the balance and definitely take it into account for my next project. Thanks again for the feedback!

damn, almost completed, i love strategy, where you wait beside your tower and collect army

Thanks for playing! Glad you enjoy this kind of genre!
