Amazing retro art and music themes, but so much going on, everything is moving so fast which made it difficult to get through it.
The storied intro sequence was fantastic and the art is juicy. Big props on the overall aesthetic. It was a challenge to keep track of your character after a collision though. There's just so much happening on screen and it's easy to visually lose your adorable black cat.
Yeah, I can definitely see what you're talking about. The game has a lot of stuff going on at the same time, and I do agree that trying to find where your kitty can get confusing at times. Perhaps I should add more slowdown or i-frames after a death? The main idea, however, was to just spam the dash or the up button in a pinch, but maybe that's not the best piece of game design
What I loved:
Love the art style. The way all the sprites are super well made and how all the colors are vibrant. Also the detail in all the backgrounds
I was head bobbing to the NES music, very groovy music.
The attention to detail in the player animation of the little hop when going sideways really does add to it.
What Needs Improvement:
Never really understood how on the street I would sometimes get run over and other times I would get void out cars even after multiple experimentation runs.
Game felt super chaotic at first. Even after my first 20 try's still felt pretty chaotic. Still enjoyed the game and had a fun time.
After playing for over an hour I am confident I am not skilled enough to fill my void meter 3 times to win the game. I couldn't even do it once :(
Good Game!
Bugs:
In the dash tutorial no void orbs spawned in that section which confused me on my first run just restarted the game to try again because I thought I missed some text.
If you hug the top of the screen you can glitch the river section into not killing you and just walk on water. (not all the time though?)
If you stay still at the beginning of the main game after a retry and don't move forward you can get behind the void kill plane and not play and the camera keeps scrolling up. If you do move after the respawn it does game over. (Nice way to look at the art though)
I'm glad to know that you've enjoyed the game overall! :3
The vehicles only crash when you're actively walking past or sideways to them; staying still doesn't do anything. However, maybe I didn't really explain the cat's bad luck mechanic's that much, so that's on me 😅or maybe there's a hitbox problem or another issue I'm unaware about?
The game is really chaotic, especially in hindsight, and maybe since no one really playtested my game during development, I probably just cranked up the difficulty and chaos meters too high
Finding out that that you had problem beating the game even after spending an hour probably means that the game is too hard! I had designed this game such that the average player would take 5 - 10 minutes to complete the game, but I suppose I didn't actually design it as such
I don't entirely understand the thing about the void orbs not spawning in the dash section of the tutorial? The idea was to collect all of the pre-existing void orbs on the ground, and then the next lines of text would show up. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something?
The 'walking on water' problem, which presumably you're talking about in the tutorial, is because of i-frame being goofy. I should fix it, though!
About the final bug, yeah that's totally an oversight, although I think it would be a pretty neat ""Easter Egg"" if I were to keep it that way, hehe
Anyway, I'll totally take your suggestions into consideration when I'll update the game, which is hopefully sooner than later
Retry:
Your explanation of the bad luck mechanic was enough for me to fill up the void meter once and I was able to get to the second phase on my first try!
Holy moly there is a laser! And giant harmful voids!
I FINISHED THE GAME! and destroyed the stupid town lol.
Made me wish that the attack the void button and dash is different because when I am so close I accidentally waste precious void on a dash when I thought I had enough.
Your suggestion of how the bad luck mechanic works does make the game a lot easier maybe a tutorial on that mechanic somehow.
Bug Context:
The void orb thing tutorial only happened on my first playthrough once, so I cannot recreate it so it probably not a major bug and a rare thing.
The walking on water bug was something I noticed in main game. But it is very minor so I wouldn't worry about it.
When I was using the bad luck mechanic even though I swear I was still walking I would die sometimes.
very fun frenetic energy. great music. i suck at it!
One of those games I couldn't stop smiling while playing, really great work with the style, and backstory!
aww, thx!
Awesome game!
My favorite in the jam so far :)
You did a really nice job with the art and audio. And the time you spent on the movement and gameplay really shows.
Any particular reason you chose Godot 3.6 vs one of the later 3.x or 4.x builds?
Really nice work!
i've realised JUST now that there is a Godot 3.7 🤦♂️ ig i should switch to it.
i currently don't have a laptop with good specs, so it can physically not support godot 4.x, which requires higher specs; i'm sticking with godot 3.6 for now. also, i appreciate your kind words ^^
This game is absolutely incredible. Put it in my web games collection! The artstyle is adorable and it's really fun to try and beat each level. It's sheer sensory overload
yuh, the game does get quite chaotic towards the end, especially with the added hazards and all. awesome to know you've enjoyed the game tho :]
I loved your take on frogger! The high-saturated colour scheme works well.
Pixel art and overall game is fun!
I found the game quite tough but then I find Frogger tough as well.
fun fact: i couldn't get past the second level in frogger either lmao
Very nice! Love the art style and the audio. A bit too difficult for me personally, but that doesn't detract from it being a great game :D
hehe, thx :] i thought i ended up making the game lean towards the easier side, but that doesn't seem to be the case, actually. in hindsight, maybe the game is too quick and a little overstimulating? but, i'm glad to know that you enjoyed the game regardless ^^
I can't make it past the second obstacle lol. Good stuff.
lol yeah the level can get quite hectic later on. nice to know you enjoyed it, tho!
Frogger but you bring chaos to everything around you, I like it. Love the art style too!
thx :3
