Aha, interesting take on construct where most games (including ours) had evil machines!

The Magical Girl + fighting corruption aspect is not visible in the game, though.

It looked simple with coffee at first but then with the recipe randomizer it turned into hardcore Overcooked. Many UX issues also make it difficult to do what you want. Other comments already sum up most of my thoughts but I’ll add a few things below:

  • It was unclear I had to click on recipe name to see recipe (I thought recipe name was a label, not a button). If there’s only one recipe per day, just show it, no extra click.
  • multi-step recipes like flan: it’s not clear that it’s multi-step due to the icons looking like each other, you don’t see the progression in the bowl content. And it’s pretty hardcore to have to mix, cook and put to the fridge and then serve your customer who is very impatient and obviously doesn’t know that making a flan from scratch takes a lot of time

image.png

  • easy to confuse white plates and white bowls

  • having to check customers’ requests is an extra challenge compared to Overcooked where it’s just displayed in the banner (because in that game you play in the cook area and don’t get in touch with the customers). However their short waiting time makes it too hardcore. Besides, if there’s only one recipe per day, waiting for their order doesn’t make sense: you just start cooking the same meal again and again anyway (as in Overcooked when you have only 1 or 2 meals for the mission). So it just makes you waste time running toward the chairs but you already know what they want.

  • Character walks by default and the walk is very slow. You have to hold Shift to Run (which is OK when playing with arrow keys) but you know you’ll do this every time anyway, so better just Run by default (and hold Shift to walk if you really need precise placement as sometimes needed in Overcooked, except done by pushing stick a little on gamepad)

  • cannot interact with ingredient holding bowl to put ingredient in bowl. Overcooked allowed some reverse interactions, and Overcooked 2 supported even more to make it super easy to mix things in any order, I think it’s a good reference in terms of flexible interactions

Good:

  • fullscreen option

Bug:

  • … but can’t close options menu, so couldn’t really play in fullscreen in the end (in another comment you said it will be fixed post-rating phase)

  • missing glyphs in recipe

image.png

  • in one day where I had to make a chocolate flan or something, I couldn’t even grab the bowl. It was locked. Maybe better to just unlock everything and let player do the things right? Or remove the bowls entirely in missions that don’t need it, but if it’s present then it is usable?

  • trying to interact with the coffee machine from the left, the “raycast” detected the tile too far to the right (the table on the other side). I had to interact from top or bottom

Typos:

  • throg (through)
  • an (and)
  • acomodate (accommodate)

(just put all your text in a spellchecker, it’s easier)

I really love the vibe of this game and wished so bad that it was more playable.

The art is just so cute and cozy, and I really like the vibes of a magical girl cafe! It seems a lot of the core game mechanics work (combining ingredients, serving customers, etc), so it would be really cool to add a bunch of items to cook and really make a crazy chaotic resource management style game!

As others have said, there really is not enough time to serve the customers. It could be interesting to have a strict timer to add to that chaotic vibe, but it's very tight right now. Maybe increasing the day timer after every successful customer served? I also had an issue where when I opened the settings menu, I couldn't close it and start/continue the game.

I would love to see you fix some of these bugs and balancing issues, this is a really cute game!

Developer

Hey, thanks for the feedback.

The settings menu was a pause bug and was fixed (unfortunately i can't update the game while the jam is going but thanks for the bug report)

Also things like customer patient and day length will also be changed as soon as the jam ends and the game can be updated.

I like the general idea of the game: kind of like a randomized overcooked with a magical girl protagonist, and her design was cool. Reminded me of Princess Tiana from Princess and the Frog

I think the core gameplay needs some tuning (or maybe I am just bad lol). I consistently felt I didn't have enough time no matter how early I started making the recipes, even if it was just coffee. This could have been because you get upgrades at some point and I didn't know, but then I could not actually serve food to clients. They never accepted anything that I put on the table >:(

I saw in another comment here that you need to use a plate. I grabbed a plate, put it in a counter, then grabbed a finished coffee and put it in a plate. Not sure if I did it correctly because now I was carrying both objects but they didn't seem to be connected. I tried to place this on the customer's table and only the plate went in Maybe I needed to use the bowl for coffee?

I tried again with flan. This is where time is just not enough I think. This time I was able to get the flan done and served, but just before the customer paid, time ran out

After I saw the strawberry tart recipe, I was 100% sure there was no way to make just one in time, let alone with 0 customer sadness, unless I am missing something (which could very well be the case)

If there are ways to speed up your cooking that I didn't get to see, then I would suggest forcing coffee as the recipe until you get some upgrades, and adding plating to the recipe too so the player knows the final state food needs to be in

I can tell the game has a lot going on under the hood that took most of the time, so I would love to see the game further developed into its original vision!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback.

The core gameplay indeed needs more fine tunning,  our team was rushing to get the game into a playable state so we couldn't playtest it as much as we wanted.

We intend to add upgrades to decrease the time needed to make recipes, features to make customers more patient and fix general bugs and confuse features like the plate thing.

Also thanks for the compliments and critics.

i liked the design you made for the character, i think it looks very nice! The game itself tho i think it needed a bit more polish.

I was able to make some of the recipes and reach the finished plate, but then no customer would eat my food :(

The loop itself i think it is well designed, and it is a style of game that allows for creative play in terms of optimizing table space and mullti tasking to make more dishes, that is fun!

I also liked the sprites, reminded me of my goat undertale, and soundtrack also nice! Good job

I guess I'm just a terrible cook but I didn't even manage to serve a single customer.😢 I tried putting coffee in front of them but they didn't seem to want it. Still, I loved the character design of the main character and the concept seems cool!

Developer(+1)

Don't feel that way fella, they probably they didn't accept it for the lack of plate with the coffee wich is reasonable because the game lacks a proper tutorial and isn't clear that the clients needs plates(wanted to add it but can't update the game while voting is on).

Also thanks for the compliments and feedback.

This game lets you step over your customers. Pretty cool.

Yo, Just to let you know the game page is private! so i can't see it. Idk if this intentional or not, but just in case you forgot to make it public

Developer(+1)

Hey man, thanks for the warning.

The game was in a unplayable state thus why it was private until now.
