Ranked from 196 ratings. Score is adjusted from raw score by the median number of ratings per game in the jam.

How does the game fit the theme?
The game takes place in a candy society, an unusual setting where the player, enemies, and bosses are all sugar-themed characters. The entire world is built around this idea, so every encounter fits the theme. We wanted to contrast something sweet and colorful with fast, challenging combat. It’s cute on the surface, but the fights are no joke.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
Most of the music was composed by our team’s composer. Due to time constraints, a small portion of the background music was sourced externally. Most sound effects (combat hits, UI sounds, etc.) were also sourced externally and lightly edited in Audacity. All gameplay code, mechanics, sprites, animations, and boss systems were created from scratch and are designed to be reusable.

How many people worked on the game?

This is incredibly polished. Its very vibrant 2D and I love the art art and satisfying combat. The game has fun animations, boss fights, and thoughtful mechanics that perfectly balance challenge and charm.

If you get time, can you please rate our game? We've not hit the limit yet!

Of course! Reviewing it right now.

Thanks for playing!

Congratulations on the game, very well produced. Great music, cool art, and charismatic characters. The controls are good, but one detail, which is more of a personal issue than a problem with the game itself, is that you used controls that are very similar to Hollow Knight, so I would prefer jump with Z, attack with X, dash with C, and special attack with A.

Thanks for playing!

You can rebind the keys in the Options menu on the main menu, so you can set the controls to whatever layout feels most comfortable for you.

This was a great game, the art and music was impressive for this jam and it felt well polished. Well done!

oh, this is amazing! extremely polished!

Unfortunetly I cannot really play this entry since my keyboard doesn't have arrow keys :/

Developer (2 edits) (+2)

Thanks for the attempt!

You can actually fix that right in the game. Just use your mouse to click the Options button in the main menu, where you can rebind all the keys to whatever works best for your setup if the arrow keys don’t work on your end.

Hopefully that lets you jump in and enjoy the entry!

Hello! Id like to preface this by saying im so burnt out from playing platformers this jam. But this was a really fun 2000s flash game twist on the theme. I love the super kawaii neko arts and sfx... heh, its so sugoi (plus ultra). I will say this though,  having inheritance of velocity on moving platforms and semi unforgiving hitboxes can make the game a little too frustrating for the average player (ie i suck). Also, I noticed half way through playing, some of the 2d floor sprites dont align perfectly with each other (Lowk as i was getting a picture of it. I pressed new game and it spawned me at a checkpoint? :sob:) :3 Overall really well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dang, I mean it was my first time making sprite and tile sheets but I got help fr, I think we could fix this later or something (I noticed it a bit too but, it is what it is lol) thanks for the review :D

Thanks a lot for playing, and I really grateful the detailed feedback! I’m definitely aware of those rough edges. Unfortunately, during the jam there just wasn’t enough time to pixel-polish every hitbox or sprite alignment without sacrificing other features.

Regarding the "New Game" issue, I’ve re-tested the logic and it resets correctly on my end. It may have been an accidental misclick of the "Continue" button on your end since the mouse is clickable as well, but if you think it's a bug, I’d really appreciate any extra details on how it was triggered so I can investigate further!

That said, I actually already have a fix for the moving platform velocity inheritance! I’ll be uploading the updated build as soon as the rating period ends and updates are allowed.

Thanks again for taking the time to play and share your thoughts —and the pain and suffering.

the new game thingy was weird. It had me go through the tutorial again and then took me to the checkpoint

Developer(+1)

I see what you mean now. Thanks for pointing that out. I’ve fixed it, and it will be included in the next update.

That is some unique and interesting ways to do platforming. I did have a bug on mine where sometimes part of the screen would just go black. It first came when I tried the special attack.

Developer (2 edits) (+2)

Thanks for playing and for pointing that out! That bug has already been fixed and the updated version will be released after the jam. I appreciate you letting me know.

Wow! Really great job, amazing visuals and music. Love the terrifying propaganda in the background, very funny.

Love the visuals of the game and the storytelling through the art! I did encounter an issue when I played the first level for the first time. As I reached the platform and came across the first enemy, the game froze. However, I did not encounter this the second time I tried. Not sure what may have caused it.

Developer (1 edit) (+2)

Thanks for playing and for reporting that! The issue was caused by the frame-freeze hit feedback effect when attacking while standing on a moving platform. It’s a very odd bug, but it’s already fixed and will be resolved in the next post-jam update. Thanks again!

This was super awesome, very polished game and it reminds of like 2d platformer mario type game combined with dark souls and cute anime girls hahaha. You created a world that feels very alive, a  lot of animations, a lot of enemies, even bosses, everything feels super polished and thoughtful. So yeah, you did a great job! :)

This was a very complete and polished experience for a jam game! I liked the aesthetics and animations, reminds me a lot of old 00's flash games.

Great job!

You guys did an amazing job for this 7 days jam! The art is magnificent and stunning, im impressed for how much work and how much effort you guys had put into the game in this short amount of time! 10/10 no drama.

Insanely polished game! I don't have much to add. You could try zooming out the camera and making the player faster to make it more fun. Amazing art too.

Feedback:

  • Changing controls option was a great choice
  • Recommend left click for attack and right click for special attack being an option. Jump + Attack + Dash felt very awkward even after i changed the controls around
  • Ramp up enemy difficulty earlier. More mechanics etc.

Overall: Amazing jam game! Keeps making games!

This game was so much fun! I also loved the amount of content you added. Both boss fights were super fun and cool. One of the most fun games I played in the game jam for sureee. Oh and also I loved the art too. The animations were really nice as well.
