Solid game jam game. The only real complaint I really have is knowing what to do in game. Maybe the TV explains that there's multiple remotes that spawn in different locations or something. Idk. Other than that though, this was a W entry.

Developer

thanks for your feedback and you are right, I definitely have to explain this in-game somehow! :)

The interior environment looks great! I especially like how you can see outside from the kitchen. I would suggest adding a skybox there to complete the view.

I really like that there’s a remote right at the start. It helps the player understand what to look for and guarantees at least a score of 1. My best score so far is 3. I couldn’t play too many rounds though, the movement gave me a bit of motion sickness. Maybe consider adding a small visual cue for interactable objects, I kept on trying to open the fridge and the oven.

One final question for you, how come there are so many remotes for just one TV??

Developer(+1)

thank you for your feedback! great suggestions.

we did not include a skybox on purpose. we wanted to give an ominous feel, that the house is lost in a creepy dimension, and it had to be simple as time was running out. :)

there is only one ( cursed) remote, it just keeps manifesting in different locations over and over again until the player can't keep up anymore.

Okay, makes sense…

Ok... It's very simple, fun and addictive...

Played over and over. Reminds me a lot when I'm late and miss the car keys...

Really vvery cool. Nice approach to the theme with a great simple and fun game! Congrats!

Developer

thank you so much!

The game is very fun to play. It reminds me of escape rooms with the timer and the intense feeling of stress and suspense. The art is great, and the atmosphere and overall graphics are wonderful. However, it is very hard to locate the remote. I would suggest a smaller map or maybe a hint system.

Great work.

Developer

thank you and excellent suggestions :)

After a certain point, I noticed that the directional audio cue of the remote could be used to help locate where it comes in next, but even then it was a bit difficult determining where it showed up exactly. Managed to get a score of 6 after some tries, it's an interesting game.

Developer(+1)

thanks for your feedback! even I struggle sometimes. Perhaps I should implement a bleep from the remote's location, if the timer goes too low!

I love the atmosphere you created. I not much of a horror game player and this definitely reminded me why. Good job!

Developer

hehe :) thanks!

That's cool game! :)

Developer

thank you :)

fun little game, the art style was quite nice. took me a bit of time to realize i had to find mutiple remotes and not just one. sometimes the view snapped weirdly, i think that happened due to the game having high sensetivity. but i had fun with the game :) good work!

Developer(+1)

the snapping was for some reason only observable in browser, probably something to do with the player controller/camera interaction. I was aware but had no time to implement a solution after multiple failed attempts unfortunately!

thank you for your feedback :)

ah that's fair!

Really enjoyed playing your entry! The way you lean into the Halloween vibe while keeping things playful totally worked for me. Nice pacing, solid visuals, and I was grinning at your little surprise twist near the end. Great job!

Thank you for your feedback, although I am honestly a bit confused as to what exactly you are referencing with it :)

Managed to find the remote twice. Love seeing Godot games! This was a very creative take on the theme. Hide-and-seek with a teleporting remote in what seemed like Alice in Wonderland's haunted house in hell. Really nice use of all the KayKit assets.

The atmospheric music during gameplay was too quiet. I strained to hear that it was creepy. It would have been nice to have some way to search for the remote or get some hints. I was just completely baffled. I didn't realize it started next to the TV until the second playthrough. The controller support worked, but it would have been nice to know what buttons did what - and the rotation was really slow on the controller IMO (but my mouse moves very fast). Also, you don't have to start the game in fullscreen, you can let itch do the switching. Allows the user to control the switch and means they don't have to kill the browser page and reload it to read what's on your page after the game starts.

Nicely done game for a first game jam. You had a player controller, a nice environment, SFX and music, plus a gameplay loop. Well done!

Developer(+1)

thanks for the helpful feedback :)

For the controller support, we intentionally did not "advertise" or highlight it, as we were aware that it was not finished yet. Nonetheless we left it in the game, because additional accessibility features can never hurt!

Welcome to the jam to both of you !

It's hard to quantify what you can do in 10 days when it's the first time. This is my second jam, and I was also quite optimistic for my first one (with this one as well, moreover I started too late).

Your game is a pretty good one for a first one. The remote control playing hide-and-seek is a daily struggle for some people, here there's some curse added.

The set is pleasant, cartoony, very lively and well built. The contrast with the stressful music is interesting. The flashes are too strong, though, you didn't need to go from zero to one. Thanks for having thought about the epilepsy warning.

The gameplay is simple and intuitive ; using the left mouse button in addition to the spacecar to pick up the remote control would have been an asset.

A quite big problem : the player moves really fast ! And when using the controller, it rotates slower than when using the mouse. If you were to lower the player's speed, you would need to give more time to find the remote control (which is hard to find, by the way ; is it placed randomly or on predefined spawn points ?).

Good job !

See you on the next jam !

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! The spawns are predefined (and rigorously bug tested), some of them are just really hard to find :) It comes down to a lot of luck in the end, the audio can help you guess if it spawned close or further away. In total I placed 31 predefined spawn locations for the remote.

We weren't very good at it. The level looked nice, but it was hard to find the remotes. Nice debut game

Developer

thanks for playing :) yeah in it's current form, a lot of luck is involved for sure (getting close/ easy spawns). some people blast through it, some have trouble even finding just a few. we would have to implement some difficulty levels I guess!

Submitted

Good job, it was a fun game! I think if you added some room/object placement variations as you got more and more remotes that would add to the replayability. ran great good job.

Developer (1 edit)

thanks, that's yet another cool idea! if you check our page you also see that we had quite more features in mind which we sadly couldn't implement. Maybe we'll extend this project with some of these ideas in the future!

edit: and of course the I'll also make sure to check out your game as soon as I can!

Nice job here! It was fun and intense trying to find that pesky remote!

Developer(+1)

thanks, glad you had fun , hope it was not too hard, we had little time to balance the timer :)

I'll make sure to try your game and give feedback as soon as I can!

It was difficult but it added to the rushed feeling I got scrambling around trying to find it haha.

Sure! I'd appreciate it, but just as a heads up, I wasn't able to get too much done in mine. I had the art and all the systems in place, ready to add a bunch of tasks and life hit me in the face and took up all my time unfortunately.

Developer(+1)

no worries, I feel you. Life always finds a way to get in the way, time is always too short. We also had to sacrifice features and polish in favour of getting a playable build done, but that doesn't always work and it's easy to get lost in the details. :)

You even took the extra step to make your own art, so be proud of that!

(+1)

Had a lot of fun zooming around trying to find that remote! Managed to get a score of 5 the first few times, locked in, got 12, felt proud. Very cute honestly, very smooth.

Developer

thank you, looks like you still hold the highscore for now :D

Great job on completing your game! I had a lot of fun playing this. You really gotta hustle for that remote as time goes on. That TV is a menace haha

Developer(+1)

thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it :) I'll make sure to check out your game as well in the next days!
