This was a cool idea, but it would've been cool if you actually got your party members though either an actual JRPG overworld OR a visual novel style, but getting them all at once doesn't feel like you earned them. The music that plays when you get a party member and general vibes overall were on point though, love the neotokyo aesthetic.

Developer

Thank you! The battle style is a mix of chrono trigger and old school phantasy star JRPGs. I agree you recruit the party members a bit quick, and on reflection the overall flow of the story is a little disjointed! If each person had a chapter and there were dialogue choices I think that would go a long way to improving that section!

I beat the evil bug giant thing, with the power of friendship! It got me fired up at the end with the friendship talk.

Developer

I'm an unapologetic sucker for power of friendship tropes I can't deny it!

I liked how every character is useful it his own way and team up very well with all the other characters, that was a really good design, good game!

Developer

Thank you! After day 1 I had all the abilities down except Mouse, I wasn't her to attack but I didn't want to have people use just her, or just Connor. I thought about implementing physical dmg / magical dmg differences but then I remembered I only had 3 days xD

Really fun story and the hype moments near the end were awesome! Art and audio were great too, especially like the super saiyan Connor and how the aura was animated.

I saw your comment on Macacrew about "secret sauce" and I think specifically for this game, some attack animations would've added more impact to using them, and a "typing" sound effect or something of the sort when the dialogue boxes appear could fill out the audio when characters are talking. Nonetheless I really liked what it already had like squash & stretch, camera shake etc.

Thanks! I appreciate the kind words and constructive feedback!

I agree there's a lot that can be improved when it comes to game-feel. I already squeezed so much in and spent a lot of time making sure what existed was stable and bug free that there wasn't enough time to get everything I wanted into the game. The usual jam excuse xD

The most HELL YEAH game in the jam so far, and i've tried almost half of the games! SO EPIC!

Developer(+1)

This means so much coming from you, thank you for leaving a comment! Your games inspire me to do better!

I love me a self-aware 4th wall breaking game

Developer

Thank you haha. I thought it would be a fun joke :3

A really nice combo of jrpg + visual novel. Great work!

Developer

Thanks! It was a bold choice for a 3 day jam not sure I would make the same decision again xD

Loved your game, I am thinking about doing a point n click in the future and will look to yours for inspiration

Love the Art and audio selection good job on the game really enjoyed it :D

Developer

Thanks for playing glad you enjoyed it!

That was very cute! I would have definitely like a bit more on the JRPG side but that's just my taste, the visual novel works super well and the art is great. Good job!

Developer

Thanks! Yea I think that would have made it more fun to play for sure. Real JPRG heads relish the challenge but I think other people find it a bit intimidating, and I wanted to make sure most people who played it could get to and experience the hype moments!

Submitted(+1)

Very charming! Loved the super saiyan moment!

Developer

Thanks! I tried to get it as hype as possible in the time given so glad to hear you enjoyed it!

i absolute love the jrpg style and connor super monkejin goat!

Developer

Thank you! JRPGs are a little niche these days so wasn't sure if it was a good choice but I love them so much

Submitted(+1)

I enjoyed the JRPG aspect of the game, and the overall look of it, well done :D!

Developer

Thank you thanks for playing! All style points go to Morphy who did the art https://www.instagram.com/q.morphy.q

The narrative was really fun. All of character portraits were great, but I wish the line art was a little less crunchy. As a JRPG fan I wish it was a little more interesting mechanically, but I think the point of the game was mostly about the narrative which I can respect. Great job overall!

Developer

Thank you!! Yea if I had more time I would have liked to have fleshed out the mechanics a bit more but yea my priority was the narrative and making sure the hype moments landed (and bug fixing. I really tried to get this bug-free so nothing spoiled peoples experience)

Also yes you have noticed my eternal shame. I initally set the game resolution with the JRPG combat in mind but it's too low for the lovely art that Morphy was making. I am going to do a higher resolution release after the jam is over that does justice to the art pieces

The character art is so good!

Developer

Thanks for the comment! Yea Morphy did a great job on the portraits, top collab partner

Thank you! Before starting game dev I would never have guessed how much I enjoyed writing dialogue

Submitted(+1)

Interesting combo of rpg + visual novel, and got a couple of chuckles out of me as well!

Developer

Thanks for playing glad you enjoyed it! Combining the two game styles meant a lot of work and if I had focused on one maybe it would've turned out better in the time we had. StillI'm pretty proud with the final product

dude this was so fun! while the gameplay is quite simple (i'm not even sure if you can die) it's so charming and filled with such positive hype vibes! and it also looks great! love it!

Developer(+1)

Ahh I just played and commented on Bubi's long shaft without realizing it was you who made it. Thanks for the wonderful comment and for making a great game yourself!
