The art is incredible, the story is really engaging, and it’s a good and original concept.

A slick and stylish noir entry! Love the unreliable narrator/detective, and as a Chandler aficionado, I found the story to be a sleek and moody homage that hits all the exact right notes. LOVE the visual transitions and abstract artwork: everything feels like it fits into Charles' fluctuating state of mind, shifting the ground beneath the player even as we're seeking answers. A phenomenal game--well done to the whole team! ✨

Ayy!! I did not expect someone to pick up on Raymond Chandler's influence in this game!

I'm a fan of any fellow Chandler fan--definitely reads clearly! ✨

Really beautiful style and use of effects and transitions.

I think it might be a good idea to write the ctc prompts in the notebook once it's been clicked to help when reading back the text.

The writing is really good overall, though there were a few things that were a little confusing that I thought might come back to have a little more explanation that didn't, and I think Maurice was a little left out to dry as far as fleshing out the characters, which may be intentional, but given his confession, I would have liked to see a little more of his motivations fleshed out. But that's mostly just a nitpick, as I said, the story was really good.

I finished the game, I played more than twenty entries, and this is the best-written one so far. The prose is clear and precise. The story is simple yet compelling. The mystery and its resolution are splendid. The dialogue has a great flow. I'll be in the queue when you release your next game! Keep up with the great work!

Absolutely loved the art style of this; it really contributed to the surreal feeling of the story and the tone of the game. I wasn't expecting to see a noir-style story for the jam but it was a cool idea and should definitely stand out! The opening scene felt nice and mysterious, and the line revealing that it's your bed was a really nice twist to end it on.

A few of the lines here and there did have a missing word or two (e.g. "you were close to deceased, correct?"), and it would have been nice to have an indicator that the current line is finished - a few times it took me a few moments to realise that it was done. Checking the history (or the displayed dialogue) also didn't show what we'd said when we asked questions, so when I wanted to double-check something it meant that I couldn't see what a character was responding to.

Overall though, this was a cool game, and I had a good time with it! In particular, I really liked the way that everybody referred to the victim by a different name; while an explanation was given in-story, I think that I almost would have preferred it if we didn't have that explanation - it would have added to the surreal feeling and also made it feel as though the characters didn't know her as well as they thought they did. The way that their responses flow into one another during the interrogation(s) was really well done, too. Thanks for making this!

Thank you so much for the thoughtful feedback! Everything you mentioned was actually a deliberate design choice on my part (some out-of-place / "unnecessary" words were added intentionally too!). I'm planning to dive deep into the hows and whys behind these decisions in my upcoming Directing and Writing devlogs---and a funny 'mistake' story behind one of them!😆

I really appreciate the attention to detail!

Okay, that transition is very hot. I like how it's mostly black and white but you know when to add a splash of color to make a sophisticated aesthetic.

I like the unique textbox UI as well. It fits the theme nicely! Overall, everything comes together into a really cohesive mystery experience.

This is a GORGEOUS game. The art is unique, the transitions stunning, the writing very well done. ("Holy crap, this is really well-written" was a thought that came to mind multiple times!)

The UI is incredible and fits the theme well. I loved the notetaking feel!

I did expect the final choice to have some effect, but even though it didn't - it still fits well with the overall theme.

Genuinely, this is incredibly well done. Great job!

Wait omg I watched your stream yesterday! I was surprised when you played my game, and actually waiting for your next stream to see you finish it LMAO.

And yes, since this is my first VN, I lean more into the kinetic novel genre. No branching whatsoever. I figured I'd rather have one solid linear story instead of many branches that are subpar. The choices are more of a vessel for themes, pacing, and letting the players step into the detective's shoes.

Thank you so much for playing! Glad you enjoyed it!

Oh gosh!! I figured nobody was really watching, so I didn’t record when I finished it this morning. 😭 So sorry you didn’t get to see!

I noticed you built it in Ren’Py - I just started learning the tool myself. Stay With Me is my second small project. I haven’t yet gotten comfortable with customizing the UI and found your UI and art style/animations particularly inspiring - something to learn for my next project!

I think a kinetic novel is a great option, and you kept it engaging with the menu options showing his thoughts before you click.

Developer

It's okay! And now you know there will be at least 1 person watching whenever you decide to stream Spooktober entries again (even though sometimes it might just be the VOD)! 😄

Inspiring someone is the highest praise I could ever receive. Thank you. I'm looking forward to what you will be making next as well!

The horror persists. But so do I!

These is some Disco Elysium level, absolutely gorgeous game! Those transitions, I could watch them all day. The character portraits had the perfect style! And amazing writing. Making the UI so stylish must have taken ages.

Thank you for making this game!

HOLY FRICK, WHY IS THIS NOT THE MOST PLAYED GAME?!

THAT

THAT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE!!!

Okay, holy frick. This is my favorite game of the entire jam.

Firstly, ALL OF THESE ART-PIECES ARE GORGEOUS. EACH PORTRAIT, THE SMALL DETAILS, IT'S, IT'S AMAZING!

The absolutely love the journal way of dialogue, the pen-clicking and writing sounds scratch an itch in my brain, the UI is absolutely masterful!

I really like Noir settings, and this does it SO WELL. The way that the suspect's story's blend together, and cut each other off, the transitions being a paintbrush strokes's wonderful, and I KNEW IT WAS HER! FIRST TIME I SAW HER, I KNEW IT! YOU CAN'T JUST ALLUDE THE FIRST SUSPECT AS A WOLF THEN INTRODUCE LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD ALL WILLY NILLY AND NOT EXPECT ME TO CONNECT THE DOTS!

Red Riding Hood actually being the wolf though is really nice, and also the person costumed as the Evil Queen, just MUAH, chef's kiss, what an icon.

Every character has excellent developement, you masterfully built the world and the Detective's story BEFORE jumping into the main game, and again, these cgs are MASTER-PIECES! The overwise gray scene, with the velvet staircase bleeding out just looks SO GOOD! OMG! HOW IS IT THIS GOOD

I don't even know what to put here, like, I have no notes, it's just 10/10, after 10/10.  😭

Wait actually yes, PLEASE CHANGE THE THUMB-NAIL! THE THUMBNAIL IS LYING! IT DOESN'T MATCH THE GAME AT ALL, please put a cg there, you have so many master-pieces, it kind of looks on the outside like a amateur-ish game, and it's not even 2D, which you should totally capitalize on, so no offence, but PLEASE, CHANGE THE THUMB NAIL, I BEG YOU, IT'S GATE KEEPING PEOPLE FROM THIS MASTER PIECE, ITS CRIMINAL  😭

But okay, enough of that, I genuinely think this will win grand prize, nothing else so far has matched it, the fact only a few people have rated it is CRIMINAL. OMG. AHH. Okay.

Oh, also before I forget, do you think you could possibly play/rate my game, please? ^^

But yeah, holy jeez, I have absolutely no other criticisms, it's just, it's perfect. Yes.

Perfect.

A

THANK YOU. You've made my day <3

You are right. I am really bad at making an engaging cover lol. It's literally the last thing I threw together before submitting. It is the art for the main menu and I was like "if I make this, it is gonna be the cover and banner as well just to be done with it" xD

I've played yours yesterday! Just didn't have the time to drop a proper comment/feedback yet! I'll do it tomorrow morning (Sat) when I'm less tied up ^^

Submitted(+1)

That's absolutely fine man! :D

And that's totally fine, I'm not great either, hahah! Eventually, I just decided to crop one of the cgs, and it works as a perfect cover, I bet you could do the same, if you'd like. ^^

Anyways though, have an excellent day m8, hope you get the recognition you deserve.

Developer(+1)

So... I took your feedback to heart and made a new cover!

Again, thank you so much for your feedback ^^
