The concept was great and I really enjoyed walking around the city getting the stuff and especially opening the "index" to find out more about the collectibles.
The gameplay flowed very well, despite it having a few quests it was fairly easy to track and to understand what was going on. The visual indicators on collectibles were super easy to follow (good thing).
The SFX were super well utilized, I just wish there was music or a background track. As for the visuals, I know they're tilesets but you did a great job with the composition, the map felt open enough to explore but not too massive to drag the game down. The dialogue was chill and witty. Loved the collectibles styles, their descriptions and cultural references. (One of them might be broken? The first one never unlocked for me).
My only complaint... why on all that's holy on this space floating rock formation did you make F the "go back to menu" button? xD super easy to accidentally press, also softlocks the game since it breaks previous items interactions and the progress indicators :p
Really enjoyed this entry! Looking forward for the future improvements.
Lastly, glad to find another TMGEBTDL fan. Truly underrated series and I'm still looking for sealed issue #8 IRL.
Thank you so much for your feedback! I'm truly glad you enjoyed it, too! I'll make a note to rethink the controls too, I was trying to choose keys that would be easily reached while playing on keyboard... but maybe it turned out too reachable XD That glitch with the collectible is weird, I'll look into it. Thank you again for the suggestions, these kind of comments are absolutely invaluable :)
Very cute ! I really enjoyed the dialogues ! I'll definitely get back to this game later if you decide to develop it further :D
Fixes and additions are in the works! 👍 Thank you! :)
The world-building in this game is great! I enjoyed learning about the The Magical Girl Employed By The Demon Lord series through descriptions of the merchandise and charming interactions with the NPCs in the town. I appreciate the controls in the description because I was confused that buttons in the UI didn't correspond with letter keys (maybe it can detect if a controller is plugged in and change the UI in response?). The beginning scene transition was fantastic!
I also caught this bug where if you don't enter your name and just go directly back to the main menu the "enter name" UI will remain on top of the title screen and you can't do anything. That aside, good job on the entry!
Thank you very much for playing! And thank you for finding the bug, the feedback is precious :)
The writing in this game is so cute. It gave such a nice flavor to the cozy game town interactions. The lore behind all the items feels so real, I'm almost convinced TMGEBTDL is a real series.
The first time I played, I missed the existence of the inventory until I'd found almost everything, and there was a bug where most of the items that I'd already collected weren't showing up. I haven't been able to replicate it. At first I thought maybe it was because on my first play I didn't talk to my Aunt and unlock the item count until I'd already collected everything I could without money, so maybe I'd done things out of order and the inventory reset, but when I tried it that way again everything did show up, so I don't know. Maybe the game just didn't load properly.
I played again after seeing the comments about the inventory, and was able to see all the beautiful art and get that satisfying feeling of completing my collection!
Thank you so much for playing! And for the nice words :) I have no idea where that bug might have come from, hopefully it really was just the game not loading well the first time.
Loved the collectibles' artwork style! Felt like a really nice game which could be fleshed out more, and could also benefit from background music.
I definetly want to polish it much more and add music after the rating period is over. I'm very happy you liked the artwork! :)
The art of the collectibles were amazing, and I really enjoyed reading through the description of each item! I would have loved a run button (maybe unlocked when the player collects the running shoes?) I also liked the scene transition between the main menu and the game screen!
"Run option" added to my to do list xD Thank you for the feedback, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I´m so sad, that it isn´t as easy too hunt down merchandise in reallife.
The exploring was fun. =D
Thank you! xD In truth, I want to add more quests and different ways to get the items, but with the deadline near I decided to make things easier rather than cutting off the collectibles. I'm glad you had a good time exploring :)
I had fun exploring the town, I like the old-school feeling. I definitely want to see it after more is done!
Thank you for playing! I'm glad it was enjoyable to explore the place, I'll have to put more effort into it in the next updates later. I'll be sure to add some indicator for the inventory so that nobody misses the collectibles collection menu as well XD
The inventory art of the items is so beautiful it is just a shame you can complete the game without opening up the inventory. I also liked reading the flavour text to learn more about that magical girl series the protagonist is a fan of. It was nice that you mixed up different ways to get items and it isn't just looking for the sparkles and interacting with them. UX wise, I think having the mouse didn't make much sense when confirmations could be done with key press. The game was also showing controller bindings even when the mouse/keyboard was in use. The dialogue was cute and didn't overstay its welcome. But yeah main thing was that I'm sad how missable the pretty inventory art and fun flavour text is!
I'm very glad the dialogues were enjoyable! I'll definitely have to find a way to incorporate better the inventory, because it's a pretty easy feature to miss. Thank you for the feedback!
I love the visual and art of the game, its very cute, the SFX of the text is also good, just like what the person below said, having some kind of music would be nice. Anyway, love your work, great job :D
Thank you very much! Visuals are always a very important part for me :)
Love the art for the collectables! Really captures the energy of trying to find all the merch for your favorite thing. Having some kind of music would help make walking around a bit more enjoyable, and a run button since the map is pretty big.
Thank you for the feedback! Music is something I definitely have to add in the future, but I hadn't thought of the run button. That's a good idea!
