A very enjoyable game with impressive art and polish. The mechanics take a little time to grasp, but once they click, it’s incredibly rewarding to create and track the interactions!

Hey! Here is my review of the game. I did it with a constructive purpose, don't mind if I'm too direct. It's good game and it'd need some more love to make it shine :)

What I liked most:
Liked the art overall
Liked the ambiance with the portal & so on
I liked the evil red-eyed flying skeleton (but I see it as a sidekick/friend and not an enemy; not sure if it's the case?)

Liked the "attack builder" mechanics - I think it's fun, it works well and it's "easily extensible"
Liked the braintwist that it creates, I found it funny :D

What left me doubtful:
Not fan of the creatures on cards; in fact I think it'd play better with shapes & colors rather than cute demons. 2 main reasons: not sure about hitting the right theme and readability issues
Tutorial is suppppper too long, it could have lost me or even make it more complicated than it is. Too many cases where I just understand that I need to send cards into the portal and what's THIS and what's IT
Not sure about building "clarity" to "fight", it gets confused with the theme and the action IMO
When cards giving clarity, I'd like to see orbs popup and go into the counter

What I didn't get:

I didn't get it was a score attack (such as Balatro) at first, it should get more obvious and have a clear target
It was not clear that I only have got 3 cards by turn
Would need more icons and as few text as possible (readability too) and ease the decision making

Nice Job both of you!

Developer

Thanks for the in depth feedback. This helps a lot. A few people already said that we need a counter for the cars that are still left to play...which really is needed. I also like you suggestion that the clarity is displayed as orbs that move over to the counter. Would make things easier to read. That's our biggest issue I think. The concept is quite tricky and we have to find better ways to visualize it.

On the illustration side it is also a thing that the smaller ones on the cards are not distinct enough. I understand that you don't like them altogether, but I am not sure if replacing them by colors/shapes would make it that much easier to understand, makes it even more abstract.

Time constraints are your biggest enemy when it comes to a game jam......but I think we learned a lot. Thanks for your long feedback.

A unique kind of game here out of the other jam submissions, I really liked THIS mechanic, IT made it more diverse and fun : )

Really interesting take on a deck builder that's really well polished with a really well done art style to boot!

It definitely payed off putting the time you did into the tutorial it really helped me get my head around the mechanics, nice work!

This game was so clever! Such a polished design and such a good tutorial, impressive for a game jam. We also made a card game, but we couldn't quite reach that level of polish. THIS was my favorite game of the jam so far!

My favorite game of the jam so far!! Loved evolving my strategy more and more as the ramifications of interactions set in. Great job!

Good use of the terms to make that loop between cards! I really enjoyed it!

The concept is super clever and a really unique interpretation of the prompt. Great submission!

I liked the art. Could you rate it in the game? Thank you.

Wow the art is incredible! and such a creative concept omg haha It had my brain melting! so much polish too I was shocked you were able to do this all in just 4 days, I played so much and had a great time! could totally see this developed further with more words and effects, super well done! Only comment is that it should totally have a web version, more people should play it!

I dont like card games that much but this one is different. I like the feel of the game, and with the art and sound makes this a great game. Gj on what you have done :D

It's always nice to play fellow card game especially so polished!
The interaction with cards felt good and I really liked the concept of passive cards that improve other cards.  The art is great too. Great team work!

Nitpicking: after passing the tutorial, I think, I've beaten 5 or 6 levels until I got completely overwhelmed by the interactions. Maybe it's because English isn't my native language, but I had difficulties understanding differences between cards, keeping all that in mind, and their art was different only slightly. Maybe while the card is being dragged, show preview of how this will affect score/other cards. This could trivialize the game though, so it's up to you guys to decide.

Developer

Hey - thanks for checking out our game too!

Yeah I tried to highlight the cards that would be triggered/cause an effect, but a few people have mentioned that is was unclear, so it was obviously too subtle. It's definitely something I want to improve on after the jam.

Really appreciate the feedback!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. The points you made are absolutely valid. Our game is easy to play, but how the cards are related to each other is really complex, so you need some time to get into it. Better highlighting to show what's affected, changing capital lettering and also more distinct illustrations could help. I agree that the illustrations describe what's going on, but you have to look twice.....it would help to make them pop them more, for example have a different background for gain/grant etc. Better visual explaining is the aspect we have to work on most, but because of the time constraints we couldn't polish this aspect as much as we wanted.

Very interesting take on a deck-builder game! And so polished too, I am very impressed.

I have to admit, I kept getting confused by all the THIS and IT mechanics, and couldn't really keep straight in my head what would happen once I had a hand full of complicated cards.

Developer

Thanks so much for trying it out, glad you enoyed it!

Yeah part of the goal was to make individual card mechanics easy enough to understand, but tougher to follow when you have lots of card interacting and triggering other cards. The hardest part is definitely trying to find the right balance between mechanics that have a lot of potential of depth in the interactions, and mechanics that are just plain confusing!

But we've got some really good insight from this game jame that I'm definitely going to take on board, so thanks for the feedback.

Awesome idea with the loop theme. Astonishing art and very addictive game. Enjoyed this game, thank you <3

Thanks for checking it out, and really glad you enjoyed it!

Very very good entry!
Great Art, Great Audio/Soundtrack, Incredible idea with the cards interacting with each other, really well done!

This game has the best art I've seen so far in this jam, so professional! The mechanics and the way to interpret the theme are also unique. I'm not sure I fully understood the mechanics, like why THIS and IT sometimes become lower case when I hover over a card and sometimes not. I also have no idea how many Clarity I'll get before I actually playing a card. It would be perfect if the card effects were more obvious.

Developer

Thanks so much for the feedback! Tobi did such an incredible job on the artwork

Yeah the mechanic is tricky, and it was tough trying to find the right way to explain it in such a limited time, but I'm glad you enjoyed it. I definitely want to make the effects more obvious, that's one of the core pieces of feedback I'm taking away from this jam. It's such an unusual mechanic that it needs clear guidance so the rules of the game are crystal clear!

Astounded at the polish of the artwork and the smoothness of the experience.
