Fun game. I enjoy your jump, I like how high it goes without feeling floaty. One thing I noticed was there's a few times I had to do a faith jump and ended up dying a few times cuz I couldn't see underneath me. But other than that I love the character and the music was great too!
Thanks friend, I appreciate the comment. I agree some of the jump you can't see where you are going to land, something I wish I had time to fix!
Here's a video of my playthrough, which contains my feedback. I play your game at 3:03:10
Great work, really enjoyed how I learned the level layout and then had to adapt that knowledge to navigate the new broken levels. There's potentially no end to how glitchy you could continue to make it. Would love to maybe see the storyline from the original game being slowly corrupted as well rather than just the level layout.
Thanks for the comment! And great recommendation, that really got me thinking about doing something else like this in the future..
Interesting concept and well executed! It also has a great hook — it's fun to see how things become more corrupted with each iteration.
The only thing I’d suggest to enhance the experience even more is adding varying jump heights. It gives players that satisfying feeling when they nail a jump just right. Also, you might want to fine-tune the camera panning a bit — it felt slightly jumpy, unless that was intentional?
Anyway, a solid, solid entry. Well done!
Thanks! Others have mentioned varying the jumping as well it's definitely something that will be on my mind next time I create something like this. Fixing the camera was on my todo list but ran out of time!
fun game 😃 well done ✨
Hey, thanks for checking out our game! Straight Mega Man vibes for me and I love it! Definitely hit that old school platformer type of game, and I really enjoyed this!
I quite enjoyed it! When I realized what was happening I got super excited.
Thank you! That's exactly what I was going for. The first few loops are a little repeititive, and I think I lose some players there, but it's necessary to ingrain the map layout in players minds so that, hopefully, they go whoa when they have to find their first alternate path
Big jumps are so much fun, and the mini lore is great. :) (go rate mine, please)
I think it is a clever idea to make the game corruption force the player to move in different directions than they expected compared to what they are used to from earlier levels. Would have been nice if there was some more platforming challenges such as moving obstacles or something, but hey, it's only a 4 day game jam :)
Good job, and creative concept!
I like the concept! Pretty challenging albeit repetitive, but I had a fun time anyways, good job!!
Very nice and challenging game, I like it a lot.
Really a well done game! congratulations!
My only feedback is the song is a bit grating for me personally, but that's personal choice.
Overall, good work!
I love the feeling of the jump in this game,so satisfying! I did not get far, I 'm not really good at platformers and I get getting head bumped in the same spot over and over... But so far I love the vibe! Will get my partner to play it so I can see more of it :)
Finally played it again and finished it, really liked the glitches and how the level changed :)
sick game, loved how you interpreted the theme! it was cool to see how the degradation and the glitchiness ultimately affected what the level ends becoming, offering differing paths from what we were initially accustomed to at the beginning of the game! one suggestion would be maybe to have the level be separated in screens (like in celeste) with a fixed camera. this would allow players to be able to more clearly see the entire level and have a better understanding of how it is degrading per loop. the camera here follows the player, so we're only able to see bits and pieces of the level. other than that, the art and sfx really sold the feel of the era this game was supposedly made in, gave that good retro feel to it!
very fun game, had a blast! congrats on the submission!
That was really interesting to play! Love that glitching effect and story
I'm a big fan of how the level deteriorates over each loop!
Quite a good game, some things I would suggest would be:
- Some way to control your jump height, I do like how high it is as it makes it stand out and the height itself is quite fun, but at times it was too high for what was wanted. While varying the jump height based on how long it was pressed is a classic for game feel, the fastfalling mechanic found in platform-fighters (like smash bros.) might work well, as you will get the full height but the player can choose to fall more quickly if they choose.
- There are lots off falls of faith in this game, please have the camera show where you are going to fall before you jump, it would help a ton
- Checkpoints would be wonderful, as you are going for more of a story focus failing and having to redo a whole section breaks the emersion and flow, while just being annoying. Additionally checkpoints allow the game to be more difficult without becoming more frustrating.
- Hard to word as a suggestion, but the first level was harder than all the other levels. Due to the two jumps where if you bonk your head, you just die it just lead to multiple deaths that felt unfair. The other levels were alot more reasonable and I was able to get through them without a single death.
Good luck in the jam, and am excited to see what you do in the future
Thanks for the constructive feedback! It's alomst impossible to objectively evaluate your own work so comments like this are very appreciated
Just before the jam I was learning about jump buffers and coyote time so that was fresh in my mind for this (and they are both there in this game). I think allowing shorter hops is a good idea but it didn't cross my mind during the jam. Everything else just came down to time! I started the jam late as I wasn't going to participate, but when I saw the theme it inspired me to take a shot!
Great work and a clever spin on the theme. And the jump!
I really liked the art a bouncy movement in this game
Cool idea! I like how smooth the movement feels! I also like how you have to start taking alternative routes as the game gets more and more messed up! I really liked the fast-paced music too! Good work!
