Itch.io are seeking out new payment processors who are more comfortable with adult material

Article on this here: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/itchio-are-seeking-out-new-payment-processors-w...

Good article.

There are not that many payment processors and they need something that has small fees, so it can be used for games that are $ 2.

I would prefer a wallet based system, as seen on other platforms. So you would pay Itch a bigger sume that could in turn be used for micro transactions. One transaction, instead of several. Itch does not even have a shopping basket, so buying two items from the same developer costs two times the base fee plus percentage, instead of one time the base fee plus percentage.

This is just about the best outcomes we possibly could have asked for, if, in fact they see it through.

Itch.io is on the right track.  Just hope they lock down the new payment processor as quickly as possible so they can get creators back in business.  The way they've handled this so far hasn't been ideal, but if they move forward with getting in a payment processor who values creative freedom, I'll be willing to forgive this whole thing and keep my work on Itch like I always have.

Seen? it's a matter of trust, just give them some time, they are not the bad guys

(+14)

I think that's a touch optimistic.  If people weren't rioting on the forums I have no doubt Itch would have happily left us all out to dry.

Itch isn't doing this because it's the right thing, they're doing it because they're scared.   As they should be.

(+2)

Maybe, but the overall mindset is a tad too negative. We can have a better approach than a witch hunt

(+12)

I don't owe it to ANY company all-too-happy to take my money to support them or give them the benefit of the doubt when they turn around and try to tell me how I can spend it, and frankly this was the one and ONLY response they deserve until they resolve this issue.

It's not a witch hunt, it's consumer advocacy, and the sooner the folks expecting people to play nice for corporations like they're people with feelings and not businesses attempting to extract the money from our pockets in exchange for promised goods and services the better off we'll be as a society.

I'd love to have seen the same amount of energy spent towards the payment processors instead, with that we would have obtained some significant result already...

(+3)

People are already complaining towards the Payment Processors and Visa and Mastercard both have their stocks in the toilet.

However, with Itch moving on to a better Payment Processor, it doesn't particularly matter to us creators or audiences how stupid the old payment processors are being.

The backlash at Itch has forced them to take responsibility.  This energy was spent exactly where it should have been, and we are already beginning to see the fruits of that effort.

Don't let up.  Take Itch to task and demand that they find a Payment Processor who can meet the needs of all its creators.

That's ok, anyway i think it won't hurt some improvement to payment processor rules in general as well

(+5)

Unfortunately that's how democracy works. If you don't cry loud, you're going to be ignored.

(+2)

I guess... those are good times to get their attention anyway

(+2)

i hope they find someone, if this cabal of payment processors fell apart tomorrow I think we'd all be much happier

I am glad to see that games hosted only on here seemingly arent gonna wind up as lost, and that itch is looking to get it so that they can host these games and apps again, and like everyone i hope that this gets done swiftly

Sounds like good news and we'll be happy if that happens. My only concern is that article does not include any links confirming the main thesis: neither X post nor itch post with update about looking for new PPs. Or did I miss something?

Confirmation from itch has come. Now that's cool!

Don't let the momentum die :

Tell MasterCard, Visa & Activist Groups: Stop Controlling What We Can Watch, Read, or Play https://chng.it/b2pMbsLvdg

Mastercard: Sex work is work. End your unjust policy https://action.aclu.org/petition/mastercard-sex-work-work-end-your-unjust-policy

UK: The scope of the Online Safety act is far broader & restrictive than is necessary in a free society. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/722903

Also for USA citizens it is important to contact Congress.

Hello! I work for a payment platform that specializes in high-risk payments, including adult content. Would love to chat with the relevant person at itch.io to see if we can help! Let me know how I can share my contact and more information

I doubt actual administration reads here, so I guess https://itch.io/support is your best way.

... Why not get in touch with Discover Card?

It's easy to get one, noone care's on their end what you buy with it and  there's also always crypto.

(+2)

I get the appeal of crypto but goddamn it is a pain in the ass to use.

I agree; but it's better than dealing with the shit show they are pushing on us.
Visa and MasterCard that is, not Itch.

Even then, I think Collective Farts(Shout) is going to become a fall guy as the bitch or bitches who need to be drawn and quartered may get in the Escape Pod as it goes down to continue to try their censorship work elsewhere like with the USA's 'KOSA' and 'Screen' bullshit laws.

Itch needs to reclaim it's independence, Newgrounds needs to push itself to join the fray and I need an artist willing to draw a meme of the KOSA where they replace the Kids and Safety of that act with: "Kill Online Speech Act" as that is what I'm calling it... And it needs to be adopted to make it stick as it's far more damning and TRUTHFUL what is REALLY is.

yipee

Excellent.  I wasn't sure whether to have hope or not.

I'm wondering if PayPal or Venmo would work, though I don't know about their processing fees.
