FOR ANYONE WHO IS ABOUT TO REVIEW THIS GAME COMPLAINING THEY COULDN’T PICK UP THE KEY: YOU HAVE TO PRESS E
Anyway onto the review.
The game itself was quite a fun little concept. I feel like it needs one more mechanic (for example a door block that needs a key to be opened and gets in your way).
There were a few bugs I’d like to highlight: firstly, the game got really confused in situations where I had both blocks and keys in my inventory. I’d be able to turn keys into blocks and blocks into keys. I also had no way to decide which would be placed when I pressed Q. I think the solution to this issue is to add a way to switch between them and also separate the variable determining how much of each item you hold.
The puzzles gave me quite a few more resources than I felt like I needed (for example the second level is doable with one block).
The game also felt quite short (only like 5 levels and each one like 40 seconds to a smart player like me)
However the 4 minutes it took to complete the game was quite fun!
I recommend, in future game jams, to add a thumbnail when uploading the game. Currently, when we are looking through the catelogue, almost all of them have enticing images that make us want to click, but since yours doesn’t have one, no one wants to click it. Luckily, the people who have time to play them all are still getting to it, so you’re still getting feedback.
The music reminded me of some OSTs from Baki the Grappler, which gave me a calm, nostalgic feeling right away. I really liked the movement and mechanics—this is a well-made puzzle platformer from top to bottom. The visuals are pleasant and cute, which adds a lot to the experience. Nicely done!
The only small issue I noticed was with the control tips—it says Q is for interaction, but in reality it's E, and Q is for placing the blocks. Just a minor mistake, though. Overall, as I said, it's a cool and impressive piece of work!
Unfortunately I could also not pick up the key...
Tried a lot of buttons/keys but did not work.
What I could see was a nice solid base for a jam game.
Really interesting game, and i tried it for 2 levels. I just couldnt get past the creating the blocks one, but i think it was more of a skill issue on my part. However i feel that mechanics wise it does throw you off the deep end from the beginning, so although there is a tutorial, a bit more hand holding the player would definitely help. That was the only issue I had with the game and I would have loved to play it more. The art, music, the way it fits the theme - everything is great. Good job :)
I really wanted to give the game a fair and honest review, but I just couldn’t get past the first level because the key wouldn’t pick up.
At first, my character couldn’t even move, but after switching the keyboard layout, it started working.
Still, item pickup just doesn’t work for me :(
Strange, I've been playing it and it works well. Still, thank you for the feedback, I will try to understand how and why this could have happened and solve the problem, soon after we finish the evaluations I should get an update with more phases and some corrections
I got the same issue. Pressing Q won't pick up the key :(
Pressing Q wouldn't work for me either so I started pressing random buttons and it turns out it's actually E to pick up things (for me at least).
It kept me engaged the entire way to completion and I would've loved to see more! The art and audio were very generic to platformers. I liked the implementation of the theme as a puzzle mechanic especially collection the platforms. The tutorial was good but left out the E key which is very essential. The level design was very interesting and left me waiting for more. I loved being able to place in only 4 directions it really added to the challenge. My biggest gripe is just the lack of levels, nice job!
Hi, I'm glad you liked it, in fact the assets were just collected, but my biggest excitement was creating the levels and I'm looking forward to continuing implementing them in the next few days, since I didn't have time over the weekend. Thank you for the feedback, I will definitely continue to improve and I hope you continue to follow along and have fun!
