Very nice tower defense entry!

very nice game! love tower defense genre

Very well done. UI could have been a bit better. It was hard to read.

An interesting take on the Tower defense genre.  I'd like to see some rewards/benefits from building further away from the base. I managed to survive without even building a single coal burner.

Good work. I did find it a bit difficult to get started.

Enjoyed the game after watching Vimlark play! Made it through to the end. I think the clarity for the modes of the towers (mine/shoot and widen area/attack boost) need to be better visually represented - just have a visually popping icon on the front of the tower.

really nice!

cool enemies design

Cool game ! A bit hard to pick up at first, though well balanced once you get it.

The wave was a bit long & hard for me. It might be a cool idea  to start with a shorter & easier one to let the player get familiar with the gameplay before throwing a challenge at him.

Small bug :  it seems that sold coal burner stay active on the map as the ground stay unfroze & keep using coal.

Appart from that, this is an impressive amount of work for a week & the hexgrid is a very nice choice for that genre.  Great work :)

Wowie, What A Cool Game, Never Expect Something Like That From This Theme And Focus, I More Expected Cooking Games ;P

Developer

When we were in the design phase, none of us even came up with the idea of a cooking game.

Nice take on the tower defense genre. I like the idea of using a coal burner to melt down ice to make room for more towers.

The clean and easy to read art style is also nice although the level is rather empty, some objects would be nice, maybe frozen trees or frozen rocks, in general stuff that makes the melting and finding new spots more interesting. The hex grid is also a nice addition and not often seen in tower defense games.

It could be a really nice game if you would flesh it out a bit more and maybe add a bit more depth to it, maybe buildings to produce more resources or different types of towers.

Good job!

Really well balanced, really fun to play, really good game! I did find two bugs though.

1) When selling a coal burner, the tiles it unfreezes stay unfrozen and you keep losing coal because of it

2) Enemies are attacking coal burners during their death animation

Other than that though, I had a lot of fun with this game. One of my favorites of the jam so far. Keep it up! If you guys could also play and rate my game as well that would be great.

Looks and sounds really nice. And it's cool to see the tower defense genre getting a bit of love!

Unfortunately, the first wave went on far too long. With only one type of tower and a very restricted area to build in, I didn't quite feel that I had enough decisions to keep me really engaged until the end of the wave.

There are also a couple of UX/UI issues. When trying to place a tower over the frozen ground, the cursor showing the "ghost" form of the tower is green, just as it is when trying to place the tower over thawed ground. This caused me a lot of confusion at first. Also, the tooltip suggests that towers produce income, but I never saw this. Instead, the coal burners produce negative income, but the towers don't impact income... I think.

Hey there! Thanks for the comment. To produce income with towers you need to click on the larger tower to swap it from attack mode to mining mode, then it will produce coal for you!

Ahhhhh that totally changes the economy.  Thanks. :)

Really well made! I couldn't imagine making something like this in a period of just over a week!

Developer

Yea, it was a lot of work, we actually barely worked on the week, since all of us were so busy, so the weekends were where the 95% or more were made.

An interesting change to a tower defense game. I like that you have to unfreeze the ground in order to place things, it adds that extra bit to it. Seems a bit tough to get past the level though.

Developer

Agreed, we tried to make it easier and easier, and cut the difficulty in some areas in half at the last minute after we could easily beat it. We were up to Midnight balancing the game.

It is always easiest for the person who made it, unfortunately.
