A little hard to see your character on screen during the fight sections. Your use of particles is pretty incredible and it didn't lag even a little bit which is something I imagine is pretty taxing on most machines so good on you for that! Sorry to hear about the bugged version, I think that DQ's you but you should still use everything as a learning experience to develop more interesting and engaging titles. Great job Mister Chicken!

You asked for this. lol.

The game is so close to being great it hurts.
The bones are there, the execution just isn't right.

So here goes:
-Your characters colors blend in with the background so it's easy to get lost on screen.
-When you walk under the barrage of spell effects you can't see yourself, so you can't effectively control your character.
-The camera should be following your character, with a slight pull in the direction your mouse is pointing. Again, because it'll help players keep track of where they are on the map.
-Slow everything down. lol. I ran in to enemies a dozen times because I was just going a lot faster than I was able to control. Bullets and enemies too, it's all going by so fast that it's easy to die just because you didn't have the time to react to all the enemies and effects on screen.
-The circle attack from those mushroom enemies should be solid and transparent, not a single pixel wide ring. Again, so the player can see and work around it. If we can't see it, it's unfair and unfun.
-The game needs juice! When you kill an enemy something should happen, the screen shake a little, a noise, something.
-Those attack sound effects were clearly meant to be used one at a time, not in rapid succession the way they're set up now.

All in all,
I really liked the core of the game. The randomized upgrades each level are fun. The variety of abilities is great. And it's literally just a bunch of tiny tweaks to make the game more of an awesome experience.

Very fun game! I didn't get the there and back though. If you wouldn't mind trying my game that would be epic.

This game was fun for the same reasons I love to play Diablo. Feeling like an supercharged wizard mowing down hordes of skeletons and zombies!
I think the effect for the starting flamethrower could be toned down a little bit to provide more clarity on the screen. I also didn't fully understand the levelling up process and got killed a few times when the game un-paused after leaving that screen. Game difficulty really started ramping up when all enemies were covered with some sort of green shield. I couldn't find a way to break through it other than just outright dodging them. Good submission to the jam!
