I really like the idea of a horror typing game! Makes you feel more in control yet at the same time it makes the fear of failing more scary. However, I feel the text goes by way to fast and I had to sort of guess what word I forgot. The letters you miss appearing on the bottom certainly helped a ton here and I really like the art of grandma. Going back to the whole fear of failing part, I feel it would have helped elevate that if the atmosphere was a bit more creepy or quiet and if you got to see the players character getting dragged offscreen or a jumpscare pop up. Just something to elevate the fear of failure. Nice job!

I love the creepy grandma art and the concept of the game! I wonder if you always end up ***** by your lovely grandma or if winning it's possible? I don't last very long haha But I appreciate how original your game is, even if it's a bit hard! Well done :)

The story is too spooky for me :( clever idea for a game jam!

Nice simple game. I think the difficulty should start off a bit easier, because it was pretty difficult from the get go. Also there's a bug where sometimes the game won't start and your stuck on the "press any key" screen. Happened to me sometimes on load, and always when I restarted.

Fun and scary typing game! There was a problem what when i lost and tried to play again it said "Press any key to continue", but when i pressed nothing happened.

Nice typing game.

A unique typing game! However it is quite hard to me for my typing is too slow :(

Eh eh eh! Grandma is really creepy and the graphical effects when she gets close are really good. I wish I could know the whole story but I'm shit at typing haha and once the text scrolls out of the window I lose track of what I was typing and can't recover. If that's intentional I think you should add some checkpoints or something. Nice work tho!

Creative typing game. The grandma did look creepy.

It was weird! But in an enjoyable sort of way. My only major problem with it was that it was a bit hard to tell where I was in the typing, and once I made one mistake, the rest came quickly. I guess that's the price to pay... if you showed everything I typed, it would have made it too easy. Maybe some response for a correct answer, such as a typewriter keystroke sound, to let you know you had a correct hit, would have helped without making it too easy.

There was a problem with audio channels, when I got a mistake early on, and grandma laughed, the voiceover dialogue stopped. That straight ruined my chances on that playthrough. Besides that, interesting idea and creepy fun grandma graphics!

Thank you for the feedback.

The pauses in dialogue are actually intentionally; but after having a break from it and trying to play it again - it actually doesn't make much sense. I was doing it to give people time to catch up; but maybe I should just have just slowed it down so the experience is "paused"!

I struggled with using Text-Mesh-Pro as I was modifying the vertices directly; and I came across a few quirks that I understand better now, so I had spent most of my time trying to problem solve.

A typing game! This is definitely a unique experience however felt it was lacking much polish in terms of actual gameplay. There was no clear instructions in-game and the art felt a little out of place considering the type of game it is.

Concept wise, I would love to see a horror-based typing game, but do think this project needed a tad more polish!

PS: It was amusing though!

Developer (2 edits)

Thank you, and I agree - It definitely needs a lot more polish, the goal was definitely far more than what it turned out to be and I am very largely inexperienced at game jams, let alone game-dev. If I could pick your brain a bit, are there any pointers to focus on when it comes to adding some extra polish?

I am glad it was amusing, it's one way to go at least.

Polishing is definitely a case-by-case basis, however it typically would aim to assuring the game speaks for itself.

Generally speaking, you will learn most of what you need to know through playtesting. During a playtest, you should be able to sit silently, not explain anything, and observe the player go through your title as anticipated. If they donโ€™t, then note where and how they got stuck, then fix it. Repeat this process a few times and you will officially have โ€œpolishโ€!

Great, thank you - I guess like everything else it really just boils down to experience. Another 98 game jams to go!

Giggling while playing thank you :D

I love typing. And when you made this into a typing game, it was more awesome!

Great concept! I love that this is a typing game :D

Fun typing game and creepy grandma out of ten lol, quite a funny game.  The voice over sounded professional too.  Only problem I had was when I tried to retry after grandma ate me, the part where it says 'press any key to continue' didn't react to keyboard keys being pressed so I had to reload it.  Apart from that, I thought it was good fun.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you, the voice over is actually a Youtube clip (credited)  of H.P. Lovecraft. I have updated the description page with the information - thank you.

It took a minute to work out how to play, but once we'd figured it out actually loved the game :D

Hi, thank you very much for the feedback. I did not even think to explain the type of game it was - I have updated the page with instructions.

Glad we could help :)

I completely disagree, and thought it was a lot of fun. Did you work out how to play?

Submitted(+1)

Yikes, incredibly unprofessional response. As you are also a creator, I am sure you should know the difference between leaving an insult and leaving valid feedback on someoneโ€™s work.

If you donโ€™t like it, explain why.

sorry

Developer(+1)

That's ok, I figured it's better to get something out than not try at all. I wish you luck.

This was hilarious and I loved every second of it haha. Well done

I got a laugh out of someone at least :) Thank you.
