Thanks for playing! When you start there is a sound that plays. If you follow it to the correct room you can then see an option (below the rooms you can go to) that lets you lock that window.

Really enjoyed the atmosphere! Kept expecting some kind of jumpscare every time I opened a door. Appreciate the lack of any, it really helped continue building the tension. Reminds me a lot of PT. A couple things, no fullscreen made it harder to spot things especially during the darker segment. And in the end I was unable to move my mouse to select the Menu or Exit buttons and had to tab out. I appreciated being able to dial 911 even if it doesn't help it added a nice touch as obviously in a real life horror scenario that's what you would try.
Having to survive being stuck in a vent is a cool concept! The music as you run out of oxygen feels like the theme of sonic drowning. It gave me a similar panicked feel which I felt really fit the game. I didn't realize the vents were randomly generated until my 3rd attempt when the exit spawned fairly close to the start. Maybe needing to find a way to unscrew the vent would have been good to prevent players like me from lucking out with the generation. It was a little difficult as is though, as the oxygen felt like it was always at the edge of how far I could crawl before needing it. Which does add to the panicked feel. But if the particular path you went down happens to have none then you're just doomed with no hope of reaching another. That said, the whole atmosphere of the game really captured the panicked feel of being stuck in a vent and I really enjoyed playing!
Really interesting game. I like the idea of having to balance listening to the phone call long enough with having to end it quick enough to stop the disasters. But it doesn't seem like the phone calls do anything whether you listen to them or not. And not being able to skip the intro made it less desirable to keep trying again. I had an issue where the monster spawned with no events happening. And another time it spawned in a second after I turned off the stove. Still, a great idea and I hope to see more games in the future!
I really liked the vibes! It felt very much like a late night drive with friends in trying to keep up with the conversation while also staying alert. I also really liked that the character talking had a light on them. I find it hard keeping track of everyones names in games so between that and the characters distinct voices in their dialogue really helped. The character designs were also well made. Being able to resume from certain parts was an excellent touch. Not having to replay everything is always a bonus with games you can die in or get an ending partway through. Very thoughtful.
As others have said the dialogue does seem to drag a bit. I appreciate being able to control the car as that adds a level of engagement. And the dialogue does succeed in adding to the characterization of everyone, but it still feels like there needed to be a bit more something to it. Maybe having the choices effect things a bit more or a scene where you can get out of the car at a stop to walk around? Or maybe letting the player part way through be able to choose something to add to the dashboard. Even just a small change of pace to make it feel more engaging and keep the player invested given the length of the dialogue that needs to take place.
I crashed the car at the start to see what would happen and the whole rest of the game I was really worried I'd kill everyone and trying not to lol. I actually stopped the car a moment before I hit the animal so the car was already stopped a safe distance away from it when everyone started freaking out.
All in all though it was a good experience and I really enjoyed it!
Thanks for playing! I was hoping to have them be random as you suggested but ran out of time to implement it. As for the game over I had an idea for a full ending scene, tying in with the jams theme as well, but never got around to finishing it unfortunately. The game definitely needs it as you mentioned. Adding voices is a great idea and I may consider that if I get around to a post-jam version. Thanks!
Thanks for recording!
It looks like there was a bug where you were able to skip over a bit. The main mechanic is a sound will play and you have to find the room it's coming from. Seems like it skipped straight into the middle of the first 'round' before you clicked the "I'm ready" and the audio was able to cue up.
The jam organizers just let me send out a bug fix for it. Regardless, I'm glad you enjoyed! I'll be sure to try out your game as well.
Thank you! Really glad you liked the dialogue, I was hoping it would seem natural. Definitely agree about the pixel art needing to be consistent. Still working on my skills in that department and ran out of time sadly. Definitely want to add the muffled music on the outside, spent a bit of time looking for sound effects and music recently so hoping to work on that soon after the jam. Thank you for playing!
Cool runner! I really like the idea, and the jobs were fun but challenging. The sprites and voices were perfect, and I really love the unique style it creates.
Playing in the Edge browser is definitely a no. Lagged a lot. And after Stage 4 the game didn't teleport me to the next one and I was stuck running on an empty street. Chrome was smooth and I really enjoyed the game after switching to playing there instead.
Also, on the downloaded version I get the error: "Unable to parse Build/Builds.framework.js.br! This can happen if build compression was enabled but web server hosting the content was misconfigured to not serve the file with HTTP Response Header "Content-Encoding: br" present. Check browser Console and Devtools Network tab to debug."
Also also, found out you can drag the health bar to increase it and not die.
Managed to get to day 2! Really like the sprites and the animations! For the players sun shot, I couldn't tell if it was hitting at times and felt like it wasn't doing much. Maybe increasing the rate of fire but lowering the damage so the player can see it more visually would be of help? Or, adding health bars to the enemies. I also liked the nice variety of towers and animals attacking.
Really enjoyed the chill vibes of this one. The music, the art, and the whole criminal intro sequence was perfect! The movement/control of the bee conflicts me. I do think it adds to the challenge of the game and by the end I had a decent enough handle on it. But I'd be curious if it would feel better to control if it fell down more slowly or glided a bit. Still, it was a really creative idea and overall I love the execution of it! Also the double meaning in the title is amazing.
Great job on the atmosphere! Took something as simple as walking down a hallway and made it scary. I won't spoil it for others but I LOVE how you used the second monster that runs especially for when the other monster is doing it's 'thing'. I do feel the game went on a little longer than it should have but despite that the atmosphere still remained uneasy throughout and was a really enjoyable experience.
Really enjoyed the story. I do wish there was even just a short little 'where are they now" kinda thing at the end but that just means it left me wanting more so great job! Not sure if it was an issue on my end but I couldn't hear anything even after adjusting the volume in the game settings. Speaking of which I love that settings were included and even save files too! Not common for jam gams but appreciated.
Really glad you enjoyed it! I absolutely love using RPG maker to make anything but an rpg lol. So much you can do with it.
I had originally planned out 3 separately themed mini-worlds each with a simple level or two but got so busy with work I had way less time to make everything than expected.
I will definitely add the thing about Chrome I had never tested it on safari. It's strange how playing web browser games on various browsers always results in varying experiences. Thank you so much for the feedback!
edit: I found the bug!! An event wasn't firing a certain part sometimes, so I went ahead and added it to a second event and it all seems to be working!
Really loved this game. The controls are had to master but every time I would make a mistake I felt like it was my own fault and it just made me want to get better at it. Others have mentioned the control difficulty and while maybe there could be some tweaking I felt it really fit, makes it feel like a classic arcade game. Defenders initial reception was that it was difficult to control but fun to master. Really the whole identity of the game.
I can easily see this game being a big thing it was really loads of fun to play. The music and sound effects are all solid and really improve the experience. I really really hope you continue working on this there's a ton of potential.
(Oh and windows defender thinks this is a virus for some reason)
Glad it finally worked! Strange it happens more often. In my experience and from what others have told me it's more rare. I have no idea what causes it though so that's a shame.
I had increased the crows hitbox at the last minute but didn't get to test it as thoroughly as I would've liked to so I will definitely be fixing that. Due to the way it's implemented the up/down has to be held to move. Hoping to find a solution for that though.
Thank you for the feedback it really helps! I'll try to go through and make some fixes at a later time.
Great job on your first game! Having different 'levels' like jetpack joyride was a great idea making it seem like your progressing more. Birds using worms as money is a fun idea. Although I feel the worm counter should stay on screen while playing so you can see how many you have like your score does. Nice job!
Played in chrome and after level 9 it wouldn't load the next one.
As I've said before, the music is awesome. Liked the soft/quiet music in the credits as well. Really interesting mechanics being able to fly over walls and using up your health to 'x-ray'.
Feels like it needed some other mechanic or puzzle aspect to make it more engaging though as the player can just fly to the end of the level. Still, had a good time with it and hope it gets worked on more! Lot of potential.
A really fun idea! I can easily see this back in the day on coolmath or newgrounds. Feels like if Ultimate Chicken Horse was a flash game.
It was a lot of fun to play and having your past decisions add to the puzzle makes it all the more satisfying to solve!
I do wish the bush or some new item could delete/cover up goat heads or other objects. Made it to level 8 and had goat heads placed at the exact spot of the trampoline >_<. Definitely my own fault though but the ability to delete an object could create some interesting player decisions.
Loved the graphics from the moment I saw Dr. Xavier. Reminds me of Little Big Planet stickers. Nice sound effects too!
