Very cool entry. I like the 2d graphics and the overall gameplay. I don't know if the game exiting on me on death was the best decision. The ending screen was really spooky though! Good job :)

Pretty nice game! I like how the rave music for the main menu made me dance a bit, but creep monster had to ruin it. πŸ˜‚
As for the gameplay, it was smooth, no glitches or anything. Have you guys tried a static map version? No randomization?
Btw, I felt robbed by that force quit, because I wanted to play again! Great work!

I appreciate the kind comments! And yeah, we were split between a randomized map but I figured it'd add to the replay-ability and would save us time MAKING levels. <3

I really liked the aesthetics <3

This is pretty neat :D I absolutely suck at it and can't get past more than a couple of nights xD but I like the idea! It looks really nice aesthetically :3 I love the title screen, laying in bed art, the general look of the map/house, and the game over creepiness/force close, haha. SFX are cool too. Oh, and I think it's great how you can hit the light switches to get a limited light boost in corridors and rooms... reminds me of myself if I have to go downstairs for anything at night, turning all the lights on one by one cos I don't wanna walk around in complete darkness x3

Yess. That's exactly the feel we were trying to capture! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

This is a solid entry! The creature design and animation is great, and there are a lot of subtle touches to keep the player surprised throughout the game.

Developer

I'm glad you noticed all the smaller stuff! <3

I tried the game and I really enjoyed it! I loved how the stuff inside the rooms changed every day! I didn't manage to win yet, and the intentional crash with the kid calling for help (?) is really cool! Great stuff!

Dayyum, this really is an amazing game! I usually don't like horror games at all, because I'm very picky (I either find them too flat without any fear of anything actually happening, or too reliant on jumpscares which makes them predictable too) but I really enjoyed this!

Only one thing, but this doesn't take away from the experience at all, merely a notification: when I pressed/held escape the whole game went nuts (I suppose this might be by design, instead of a pause menu you would have the player be able to exit on another way?) but then, the player dies, and an error pops up (this happens every time I died, and I have done so quite some times by now :') scaring me shitless bro)

That brought me to my next point: you guys made this in GameMaker? How cool! I made my entry in gamemaker too. All entries I had played up to now all were made with Unity, so it's nice to feel some love for GameMaker too.

Anyways, I really liked the entry a lot! Great game!

The crash is meant to be intentional! But uh, it might've not been spelled out very well - unfortunately!

Still, I'm glad you enjoyed the game.  And yeah, I knew players would look for a way to pause the game (especially if they were being chased) so I made ESC have a bit of a scare in itself! :P

Ah, oh, wow, an intentional crash as game mechanic! That's really novel! Now that I think back to it, it does make sense given everything what was happening on the screen hahaha, I'm just a bit slow in the mornings :)

Great game! I loved the tension of the gameplay. And the idea of changing the map every day is brilliant! I would love to have the option to run, especially when the character returns to his badroom. Then it would be exactly as I did when I was a child: I tiptoed to the bathroom, thinking that I was going to find a ghost or something at any time, but on my way back I ran past the house, to jump straight under the covers! This game made me relive a lot of those moments, thank you for that! Congratulations!

I'm really glad you liked it! And yeah, I'm still on the fence about adding the ability to run. On one hand, it seemed like a good idea for the sake of giving the player more ways to deal with the monster - but on the other, I wanted to keep the mechanics of the game simple enough to keep goals clear and make the player feel weak. A future update, maybe?  πŸ€”
