Hello, I streamed the game and talked a little before, but here are some quick observations:
The art is pretty good, overall the game give a pretty good feel of sci-fi ambience. It was definitely not clear to me though that this is not supposed to be a continuation of a game, so threw me out right from the start. For that I would suggest to add a hint in some way, like two characters sitting down watching a random TV show.
The battle system is slightly more structured that the default one, but not by a lot. there is some strategy in the party's synergies, but there's not really a lot of strategic choices overall in battle. And the "morale" feature is... very invisible, there's no way for the player to understand it well without any sort of visualization for it.
The story was in a way interesting, given the character meeting their clones, but it was hard to me to feel attached to any of the characters since the game was intended to start in the middle of the narration. (The idea is pretty unique, but it has some mentioned downsides to be weary about)
Thanks for giving it a thorough play through! And sorry for the late reply, I had apparently forgotten to hit "Post".
I'm not sure about your suggestion to add a hint, though... The theme of the jam was "beyond expectations", and this was my way of doing that. A priori explaining to the player what is the unexpected part seemed contradictory to the theme. The irony is that, (as you have experienced first hand lol) although people did not expect it, most of the players filled in the disbelief by assuming that this is a continuation. Kind of a bummer since the creation of the recap took a week in all. Ah well, with each one you learn.
The battle system is admittedly weak. The initial version was quite unforgiving so I had decided to dumb it down to avoid the situation of players getting frustrated and quitting the game half-way.
In any case, thanks for playing! Much appreciated.
This game looks really good. I wish I can play it but I have a Mac computer :_(
If you can deploy a mac version, and dm it to me, I'd be happy to play and rate.
Thanks for the interest! I haven't had much luck deploying to a Mac I'm afraid... maybe I could set up a Web location somewhere. Would that be an idea? The performance would likely be impacted though...
Yeah that could work. Let me know if and where you set that up (you could just have a second itch page for it maybe? or would that be considered cheating by the judges? I don't want to get you into any unforeseen trouble as a result :|)
Sent you a DM on RMW. The lag is quite awkward, but it is what it is I'm afraid...
Although I was thinking... wouldn't it work if you just copy-pasted the windows files into an RMMZ project on Mac and hit playtest...?
Oh could it be that simple? I'll give it a try, otherwise I'll play the web version you sent and get back to you. Cheers!
I'm... not at all sure actually if it will work...
Yeah it's a different format file...
Wow, what a beautiful game. Had a ton of fun. I loved it. Battles were a bit hard. I was definitely engaged...
The only issue is that I didn't know what was going on because I didn't have previous context. But that's an issue for another time, because I might play the other parts if they're free and/or when I get the money to do so. All in all, enjoyed it.
Thanks for playing and the feedback! Happy to hear you enjoyed it. Combat is admittedly a little rough, and I realized no where is it explained how to escape from battle (100% success rate up to two party members).
Regarding the previous context lacking, that’s kind of the concept of this entry. Kind of like watching a chapter somewhere halfway through a season of a drama you know nothing about.
Good presentation, seeing the space outside the ship is calming. The sprites and animations are nice. The battles and skills seem thought out. The battles started pretty brutal, but with more characters, equipment and levels they were fair and engaging. However, since I didn't play the previous episodes, I had no clue what was going on. The dialogue also felt a bit strange at times. And don't know if it's just me, but I didn't get the 'beyond expectations' theme with this one.
Thanks for playing and the feedback! It was a bit tough to balance with a party growing in size over such a short time-span, so I just made escape rate 100% when up to a party of two. Glad to hear you didn't find the end game overwhelming; it's hard to gauge because the DEV knows all the tricks.
As for not having played the previous episode... neither has the DEV!
I can't figure anything out. I can't get anywhere. I got other me. And that's it. I cannot find a way forward. I can't. I can't go upstairs. I can't go back to the hanger. There's no way to open any of the locked doors. There's nothing that advances the plot in the accessible areas. I give up.
By the way, it's a really bad to place single use items in the first combat slot.
Thanks for the feedback! Noted about the item commands, I might move them down the list.
As for not being able to progress… you mean to say you can’t open the door in the medbay? That would be very bad and I’d have to check on that.
Oh...I needed to try again after I got future me.
Well, now. Don't I feel silly?
Glad it works! Perhaps a hint/conversation to go back to the door if you've tried it once might be nice.
