  • Well made! Theme is front and center. Art style is great! The music is maybe the only thing I can complain about. The loop gets a little tiresome after a bit. Loved the fact that you had a tutorial in the beginning. A LOT of these games are missing this great feature. Didn't run into any bugs. Great game all around!

Did you include your Game Design Document in your downloadable files?
Yes

Tell us about your game!
In Town Alight, micromanage a group of villagers as they fight to put out fires in their town.

Use quick reactions, clever positioning, and resource management to control the spread of wildfire in this chaotic single player real-time strategy game before it destroys the Town!

The game is mouse-controlled. A tutorial of the game is available in the main menu and in the pause menu.

Did you remember to include your Game Design Document?
Yes

Is your game set to Public so we can see it?
Yes

Extra Notes
This is our first game jam. It was a great experience and Town Alight was made with a lot of effort and love. Enjoy! :)

PS: Some users have reported issues playing the game through the browser as there was a weird offset. This doesn't seem to be a browser issue, but PC-dependent. What we've been able to do to fix this was changing the zoom to any value and return it back to default.

I really like this game, The art style, the sound effects and the music is really good.
It took me a little bit of time to figure out what I was supposed to do even after the tutorial but after I got into the pattern of what to do, I really loved the game.
The game itself is pretty challenging but it is super satisfying.
Really great game, I love it (:

Developer

Thanks a lot for taking the time to try it out! We're really glad to hear you stuck with it and found it fun to overcome the challenge.

We already have some updates ready to go (bonus objectives, some new levels and a smoother difficulty curve, quality of life stuff ) for after the jam.  And we're already planning on expanding our ideas into a bigger game. You're welcome to join the discord if you have any interest in following along with our development and/or giving us feedback along the way!

Really fun game!

I gotta be honest, it took me a little while to get the rythm down! I was too slow at first, but once I got the hang of it, its a very hard game to put down.

Also, incredible tutorial and really cute art-style!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and for the feedback! We did intend on making the game feel like a challenge and have the player learn from losing at times, but we do understand it can feel really demanding at the start. We are working on some updates aiming to smooth out the difficulty curve a bit for when we can update the game post-jam :D

Really dope game!

I'm not usually a resource management guy, so I had to put it down and then come back the next day. But super good! Love the art style. I feel like the character commands could be a little finicky, but maybe I just need to be more precise.

Really enjoyed it Congrats on it!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your feedback! We're currently working on ways to make the character control smoother. Glad you enjoyed :)

Great game to play!

I liked your gameplay loop and the strategy it involved. Overall, I think that your tutorial has been my favorite yet and I immensely enjoyed your pixel art.

Great work, thanks for the fun!

Developer

We really appreciate you liking the tutorial, it wasn't easy to set up. Glad you enjoyed!

MAN! when you said you liked a challenge on my game its no wonder! I was running around frantically with my heart pumping in this one. I really like your game design and the animations are also really fun. The only thing that could have been making me feel like i was letting down the mayor more would be a fire alarm going off. LOL. Really great job.

Developer

Ignore the mayor, you're doing a great job <3 I'm glad you like the game, thank you for checking it out!

Very well put together. Like release level quality!
It managed to stress me out to a level that I'm not proud to admit.
The game is simple enough. Put out the fires. But the level of micro management intricacy is solid.
Top marks. I was genuinely challenged at times.

We're honored to get such a compliment! Thank you so much!

this is a pleasant game with charm, and the core loop is really satisfying! i enjoyed figuring out how to optimally put out the fires. i settled on focusing multiple villagers on a block of fire at a time to snuff everything out. nicely done!

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it! We had a lot of fun putting it together and already have plenty of ideas to expand on it.

Super polished, man does it feel so stressful to start struggling in this game hahaha

Developer

The stress and anxiety is real, even for us! thanks for checking it out :D

Submitted(+1)

Maybe some anxiety says the description. Yes many anxiety says me. I love the art style and music, and the tutorial was clear and fun to read through, which is an impressive feat! I really enjoyed that each level was a puzzle to solve, with more resources and challenges to face each time. Well done, and have a wonderful jam 💚

Developer

Hopefully the level of fun matched the level of anxiety you felt haha. Thanks for playing and and the kind words!

Great art work, especially for such a short period! The gameplay loop is solid, a nice little puzzle game. I feel like this could do really well as a mobile game if you decide to keep working on it. Amazing work!

Thank you for playing and for the kind words!

P.S. We loved 'I Will Remember You'!!

Neat rts style game!  I wish the pace was a little faster for villager movement.  The audio loop got a bit repetitive.  Really nice pixel art!  :)

Developer

Thanks for checking it out! And we really appreciate the feedback, it will really help us to look for ways to improve the experience :D

Great game, it reminded me how bad I am at microing in RTS games!  The best strategy that I found was waiting for a fire to spawn a new fire, then just putting out the new one as they take a lot less time and water to put out.  It is a very micro intensive strategy though, so I think it's well balanced.  My favorite level was the one with the bush on the little island.  I did a massive double take when it just spewed fire all over the mainland, great way of introducing the effect of the bushes!

Developer

I really appreciate your feedback! We did find out during tests that waiting for the fire to spawn was the way to go, but you can't just wait for it while the forest burns haha

Such a well-polished game! From the music to the UI to the visuals, I am certain I yelled back at the mayor a couple of times in my head, telling him to help out instead of staying on the roof shouting! I'm now on the level where I have the pleasure of maybe watching two mayors burn.

Not much criticism to give. Good game, five stars!

Developer

Thanks for checking it out and the positive review! Hope you had fun with it. That Mayor really gets on our nerves too >:(

Really enjoyed the concept here, and it was well implemented. Very satisfying to close a fire off

Developer

Thank you! glad you liked it :)

The art! the stress! the fun! this game was really awesome. It took a bit to learn how to properly control all my little guys maybe a simpler first level could help introduce mechanics better but other than that it was super fun once I actually learnt it. Amazing job!

Developer

Thank you so much, glad you liked it! We've been debating about the first level as well, thank you for your feedback :)
