Description
orchestral, dark fantasy style thing made in FL studio, held together with duct tape and whatever is left of my attention span
scuffed game narrative concept:
Years ago, in the kingdom of something or other idk, King John Goodguy was a hero beloved by all for being really cool and based. But in a moment of foolishness, he roused the anger of the eldritch god of dreams and nightmares, who in turn condemned the king to a lifetime of servitude. It was then that the king became a jailer, a conduit through which souls were transported to the nightmare god's domain as sacrifices, to be imprisoned there forever. The king, powerless to stop it, could only watch as those close to him were taken, the castle becoming an abandoned shell of its former self in only a matter of days. It now looms over the kingdom, as more of a grave than a castle. Your job is to put the king, or whatever is left of him, out of his misery. By any means necessary.
featuring such "lovely" (scuffed) songs as:
the main theme (outer god's lullaby),
the spooky evil nightmare world theme (from where only madness returns),
and the theme for the boss fight against the king at the end of the game (jailer and prisoner alike). wish i couldve done more, but unfortunately my ability to do literally anything sucks so thats all there is.

Message from the artist
??? colon three
uhhhh
what do i put here
hit that like and subscr- gets shot by sniper
idk. this was fun tho! im glad to actually write music FOR something, even if its just hypothetical.
also:
ik it says "use permission: no" but what i mean is just reach out to me and ask for permission. just ping/dm snorplemcflorple on discord, on the slim chance anyone actually wants to use this in something. (sorry if this is redundant and im just being stupid)

Theme

Inside my world

How does it fit the theme?
It's a story about someone who unwillingly transports people into another hellish world by his presence. I know its awfully literal, but hey i thought it was cool.

Nice album with the organ and chord progressions, good soundscape you created for your tracks.
Outer God's Lullaby : At 1:20 you had a fantastic change of pace building up to something incredible but then you stopped it ?! I think you should've went hard and continue the build up, also add more low end to make it even sinister.

From Where Only Madness Returns: Cool reverse FX (always love those) its a nice soundcape, I just think it needs a bit more motion, very modal but it works the arrangement is well done.

Jailer And Prisoner Alike : A bit more intense than the other track which was nice the only thing I would change is the bass doing at some point was staying modal when you were doing important chord change like at 2:20

Overall I like the vibe its sinister but like a soft sinister,to truly fit the theme I think you can go way harder in the darkness path and make this crazy.  Good job !

CHAos! i love everything that is captured within the ost. there could be more variation in some parts but other than that

Your tracks work really well in relation to the theme you’ve gone for, with the dark fantasy vibe being very effective here. I like the way you sustain that sense of dark atmosphere throughout and there is some great writing. Perhaps there could be more shape or variation to the low vocal drones in the second track, but overall really great work!

I came here out of curiosity to know what the little guy told you😂

Loved the darkness colors of your work!! and the Dark Souls kind of vibe. I'd like to know what VSTs you went for in From Where Only Madness Returns.

Well done!!

Very much enjoyed listening through these! All three have a great dark and ominous, yet playful tone thanks to the instrumentation. Love the organ sounds! Instantly painted a picture for me, great job!

For a scuffed concept, I don't see as much dark fantasy settings very often in many entries and the narrative was intriguing enough to get invested (even if the king was truly called John Goodguy, he was based and cool).

The atmosphere you created from the 3 songs further amplifies the dark tone you're going for in the soundtrack, great job!

I wish to be as cool and based as King John Goodguy.

This!!! Is exactly the kind of music that pops into my head when I picture dark fantasy. "Jailer and Prisoner Alike" was my favorite track for sure, I loved the epic and grandiose feel of it supported by the organ and bells. You should be really proud of what you made here. This is an excellent and unique soundtrack!

This is rad! I love the organs and gothic vibe. This is a really cool submission, I really like it, thanks for sharing!

Very nice dark fantasy sound. I think UwUCatAgent had good advice about adding "ear candy" to take it to the next level. Well done! Thanks for making and sharing. P.S. did you do that album art? It's striking.
OH! I wanted to note that soundcloud cuts off a tiny bit of the front of tracks, so make sure you always have a bit of a buffer at the start of your track if you upload to soundcloud. IIRC at least the first track got cut a bit.

I really liked the tubular bells in the last track they added a lot of texture to the track!

Great quality for the album! I enjoyed listening to Outer God's Lullaby, very good

I saw the link to your submission on the OST composing jam server, and you called it trash?!?! This is beautiful!!! Stand PROUD... your strong.

Really good job with the dark and floaty feeling, really into the narrative of your tracks, well done! Kepp going and be careful of what you say to yourself, your ability to do music, at least, is on point, so keep going and working on it!

Hello there! I think the direction you took with this project is pretty solid overall, though there are some things that I would like to point out (as requested)

Resonance:

Something to keep in mind when mixing your mid-high to high end focused instruments is the buildup of resonances that could potentially be heard as piercing to other people's ears. Part of what contributes to this resonance problem is the reverb tail as well as the overall release of your instruments. I noticed you're using FL Studio, so what you could do is setup Fruity Peak Controllers on the tracks in the mixer panel pertaining to your instruments that are then mapped to your Revert Wet Signal to specifically duck the release when the main instrument is playing and only comes back to reverberate when the instrument stops playing. Something else you can do to tackle resonances is use dynamic EQs to target frequencies to duck when they reach a certain threshold and the advantage of dynamic EQs is that it won't cut out the character of your sound entirely (I personally use TDR Nova for Dynamic EQ but I believe there is a patch in Patcher that allows you to do so as well)

Transitions:

I think the transitions between different parts of the tracks could be smoothened out with some subtle risers and downfallers (also have some sfx that can both rise and fall) in order to better glue the track together. You could get creative with this and do pad swells or even reverb swells of certain instruments to act as glue for the tracks.

Texture/Background Details:

I think part of what can differentiate tracks is the ambience and the textures by which provides context for the landscape that you're creating. I think your orchestration with instruments are good enough as is, but it's missing some ear candy that glues the track together. This also ties in with transitions a bit, but the differences lie in the placement of the songs within the project. Your current iteration feels a bit too floaty and not rooted in the narrative concept that you wish to construct. Specifically, having stuff like sfx of stomping on ground or horses neighing or even sounds of wooden carts moving could help bring a sense of immersion in the track. These texture/background details don't have to dominate the mix either; they just need to exist.

Overall, the direction of this project is in a good direction. There just needs to be details fleshed out to turn a good direction into a great direction.

This is so hauntingly beautiful. The looming sense of dread added with the grandness of kingdom is done really well, and the organ is just chef kiss. Great work!

Submitted(+1)

I think you completely nailed that dark fantasy vibe, the use of the pipe organ was really cool for creating that spooky feel and while i mentioned this in discord your submission reminded me a lot of the awe and dread the Hyrule castle Interior theme does in breath of the wild, good shit!

You should have more ratings, this is really good! Please do yourself a favor and go rate others (not me) so you gain visibility, people should notice your work for sure!

Your cover art scared me...

Outer God's Lullaby - Good intro! (It kind of scared me too)

From Where Only Madness Returns - Oh... this organ is beautiful! (it's an organ, right?) It adds a special touch) The slight "brokenness" towards the end makes this track even more frightening... (Heh... Alice: Madness Returnin?)

Jailer And Prisoner Alike - Oh... I LOVE THE DRUMS AND PERCUSSION!!11! Heh... sorry... An epic track that rounds out the overall soundtrack well!

You definitely have a scary vibe, but with a sense of hope! Thanks a lot)
