Nice game. I like that it has plenty of sea creatures and a collection where you can see them. I like that the enemies can go for other enemies and fish, and not only for you. The controls are pretty nice too. All in all, awesome game.

The map and the autolock are super helpful, I like the different types of creatures you can collect, all round solid game.

None of the controls worked, I was really eager to play the game but all I could do was accelerate. I would love to play the game but I do not have a numpad.

Hi, if you don’t have a numpad you must use the alternative control like say on the game page, to turn you need to accelerate too, i hope you may play now ^^ (i’ve correct a mistake on the page D was S but the other controls were correct) :

Congrats, you're the first person I game 3x5 stars to! If I had any suggestions, they would be these:

  • Making an in-game tutorial;
  • Making "2" go down and "5" confirm in the harbor menu (I mean, on my keyboard numpad "2" literally has a down arrow on it);
  • Improving the UI in the harbor somewhat (making the best use of space, making sure text doesn't clip into other UI elements - it does in one of the upgrade options, I forgor which)
  • Making unique sprites for the different crates and fish in-game - I know they have different appearances in the shop, but it would be nice if there was some more variation in the game view as well;
  • Ship sprites in increments of 22.5° (π/8 if you're a nerd like me) so it looks more smooth;
  • More distinguishing features around the coast, like houses etc.;
  • Enemies with different attacks or attack patterns;
  • Some actual original music using the soundfont in the resources - even just a uniqur jingle in the splash screen would be nice.

Keep in mind that although this list is long, these are all just nitpicks, things to think about for a post-jam version. You really impressed me!

Oh yeah ! Using 5 instead of 2 would have been perhaps better ^^ (let's not talk too much about it it controversial :P)
I love so many of your recommendations but yeah there was so much cut out of the game because we still wanted to keep the "retro Nokia-like" feeling and only cut corners when we couldn't find juicy alternatives (like the easing in the shop)
As always our challenge -> if we hit top 10 we do an HD remix with no restrictions O'-'O no worries all your suggestions will be featured in !
(for the enemies attacks ... there is a boss ... But I may have F-ed up at the last second the condition for it to spawn ⫷ °⧭° ⫸ well, stay tuned for the first post-jam fix !!!)
The sound aspect is something we would focus for a post version I completely agree

Although the movement was somewhat awkward and occasionally had me unable to steer, the game is pretty fun to play.

This is the best game I've played of the jam so far. Deceptively deep little game here. I spent an embarrassing amount of time playing this. Great job to your team. If only two people worked on this all I can say is "wow".

Comments:

- The adventure part of this game is really where this game shines. The fact that there are places where you can go until you level up is just *chefs kiss*. It made me want to play more, and made the collection necessary.  And the map! This game wouldn't have worked without the map! Nice work.

  - Combat was pretty fun, but in my opinion, this is where the game lacks the most. I was already not challenged by the enemies, by the time I upgraded my weapons, I was a god.

  - A boss would have been perfect! I would have even sacrificed some other stuff in the game for at least one boss.

- Great UI. The little fade transitions felt nice, selling things at the shop really gave that feeling like, what was my "catch" today. So rad!
  - Only gripe is that you should have a counter for fish, not just money. At first I was so lost if I was doing anything or not, cause I just had a huge fat zero in the UI even though I felt like I was doing something.

- And also great work on the extra material that went along with the game! Without the explanation of controls and game world on the itch.io game page, I wouldn't have understood the game and played it as much!


I got every fish in the collection except fish #1, is that the golden fish???

Yes we’ve work all the week into this little game. That’s starting by the silly idea of fishing with dynamite and add a lot of thing of modern mobile game into this “nokia 3310” prototype.

We’ve already experiment the low rez jam with shynif and we’ve experience in low resolution game, that help to fit all these things in the small screen of the 3310 !

Like you say, a boss or random event in the sea, or narrative story and quest may make the game better, but we had try to made the game with less element possible, and the time was limited !

The collection aspect was an option at the beginning, if we had time ! I made the different sprites of the fish in less that 1 hours and put into the menu and that work !

For the golden fish, there is in a far area you need to up the engine of the boat to access it !

I maxed out my engines and went as far north as I could! I guess I just missed it!

On my criticisms, like you said, there's only so much time and you have to make sacrifices! Either way great job.

 I would love to play that kinds of games on Nokia. A little uncofortable control bcs of nums ;).
