I love the game's graphic style; it's very well done, and the added feedback adds a great touch to the gaming experience. The mechanics are well-crafted and enjoyable, offering a good balance of fun and challenge. Honestly, I found the controls and understanding them a bit problematic at first, but once you get used to them, the gameplay is very good and enjoyable. The audio is also well done, and having all these elements gives it a strong and good NES aesthetic. Good job!

I really liked the deflection mechanic! Controls felt very good throughout. One thing that felt a bit unintended was bullets wouldn't get cleared when you respawn from a game over, so sometimes i got pummeled by bullets immediately when I pressed Continue. And also I noticed the way the boss was designed, it actually gets easier as you progress through the fight. Maybe the bullet patterns should get more intense based on the number of destroyed nodes?

Overall, it was a really fun game that left me wanting more at the end! Nice work on the graphics, they felt very polished

Developer

Thank you so much for taking your time to record your gameplay! It’s really cool to see the experience others have had with the game and it helps a lot to analyze possible improvements and game flaws.

As for the bullets that don’t reset, it’s definitely a mistake xD I apologize for that, it will be fixed as soon as I can. And I like your suggestion for the boss to increase the intensity as you progress, I will keep it in mind ^^ Actually, I had different attack patterns in mind for the boss but in the end, time caught up with me xD  Thanks for the help <3

Gr8 Game!!! Gameplay feels is very tight. I just wished you could change a bit the controls. Ive tried on my laptop and it was a bit annoying to attack with mouse click. I would maybe do the jump on W or the attack on a key for my right hand close to the space bar (maybe M or K). All in all for a solo dev in a week, that was a great accomplishment.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback ^^ I will adapt the controls as soon as the jam ends. I’m not sure about the jump on the W key because then you wouldn’t be able to attack upwards without jumping, but placing the attack button on the K key could work perfectly. Thanks for the advice <3

Had a ton of fun with this one!
Controls were really tight and responsive
Smacking back projectiles and pogo-ing were both a ton of fun, as someone who has Hollow Knight as one of their favorite games of all time, this gave a lot of similar vibes mechanically, in the best way!

The boss fight was quite simple and enjoyable.
Almost beat it all in one continue, but mistimed one right near the end, oh well

Not much else to say, enemy placement felt well thought out.
Would've liked it to be longer, but only because I didn't want to stop playing.

Developer

Thank you so much for your kind words ^^ Without a doubt, Hollow Knight was one of the inspirations for the main mechanics. I'm glad to hear that I managed to capture a bit of the Hollow Knight style :) I spent most of the development time fine-tuning the mechanics and learning how to create pixel art, so I had to quickly put together the level and design the boss fight at the last minute. Because of this, I couldn't refine everything as much as I would have liked. In fact, the last checkpoint for the boss is off-screen xD It was a bit stressful process, but it’s all worth it when you see people enjoying the game <3

Samurai Giaden has some really cool game art and game concept to make this 2D platformer with combat possible. Anyway getting back to the gameplay itself, the gameplay is really good because I really like only being able to move horizontally around the level, jump (holding to jump even higher) and attack. Although, I found 2 problems with this game that made it difficult for me to get past the first level. First, every time I get too close to the enemy I lose health even when the enemy isn't hitting me with their own weapons. And second, I found the controls especially on PC to be very difficult because I have to press on my keyboard while pressing my mouse button just to attack. And even though the enemy shoots projectiles immediately after shooting one already, it added to the game's difficulty which I love even if I couldn't beat this game. This game definitely has an NES platformer feeling to it! Overall, this is a great game despite the issues I encountered during my playthrough!

Developer

Thank you for sharing your experience ^^ I understand that the game is quite challenging, which was my intention, but maybe I went a bit too far, making it difficult for many to complete it. Regarding the PC controls, I'm sorry if they're not well adapted. I always use a controller, even on PC, so I'm not very familiar with the best configuration for this type of game >.< Despite everything, I'm glad you managed to enjoy the game. Thank you for your kind words ^^

Great game feel with smooth controls, satisfying projectile deflections, and a fun mechanic of downward strikes for bouncing. Well done!

I beat the game.

This was pretty fun. The soundtrack is catchy, the background super nice and the animations of the eagles and the flags too. The controls feel good, I like the jump on enemies (feels a bit like DuckTales), returning projectiles and the overall boss fight including the look of the boss. I kept dying because I'm lazy, I should have plugged in a controller, so the difficulty was perfect as is for me with the checkpoints everywhere and 3 lifes between checkpoints.

That was super fun. I had many moments of "can I...?  YES!". Deflecting proyectiles was suuuper pleasant.

The best parry-platformer of the Jam for sure!

Very cool! Feels really good to play and the art is great!

Love it. Really enjoy deflecting the shurikens. It's also a bit hard and frustrating (in a good way). I had fun playing it

This game is gorgeous! Super fun, and that boss definitely reminds me of some some old NES shoot em up bosses and the like. Great job 👏

Excellent! Graphics are beautiful, it feels like an NES game, and gameplay is fun, and the music is pretty good! I just feel like even though there was a twist with adding samurai themes to it, I feel like the concept is a little bit basic, but I still had tons of fun! Great game!

Great game! Really enjoyed it and I managed to beat the boss at the end! Parrying and pogo mechanics are always fun :3
(Also, just as a heads up, the camera gets a bit too zoomed out on higher resolution monitors, letting you see beyond the width of the background)

Developer

Thank you for your feedback ^^ I’m glad you had a good time. It seems there’s some issue with the resolutions . This is my first pixel art video game and I’m not very familiar with how resolutions work. I’ll try to fix it as soon as posible

I love this game!! Hitting the shuriken back at the enemy is very satisfying. Actually quite difficult as well. 7 days?? You have done very well!

I’m glad you enjoyed playing ^^ And yes, probably the difficulty isn’t very well balanced, I literally designed the entire level with just 2 hours left before the jam submission deadline xD. I didn’t have time to polish the little details as I would have liked, but I still hope it was playable. It was a bit stressful, but if someone was able to enjoy it, it was worth it ^^
