Fantastic entry!! Loved the combat and the environmental interactivity, and it definitely felt like an NES beat-em-up! I had a lot of fun figuring out the best timing to use for each enemy type. Definitely hard but so much fun :)
funny little game, and cool weapons to use to slap some sense into this healthcare system. but they did stab my friend, i’m not happy about that.
wooooo that was fun! the combat was kinda fun and it definitely has the classic NES feel. I like all the various items you can pick up and use in combat. An apple a day certainly does keep the doctor away… and the cops too lol. I had a good time in my play session. A few little bugs here and there, respawning with just one heart when I felt like I should have more made it difficult to get past the boss. Also check out the glitch when I restarted. I respawned in the wall! (And with 1 health again). I tried to fight my way out of it for a little while but to no avail. You can see that in the gameplay footage:
Thank you for taking the time to look at our game! darn! i thought i had ironed out the restart game. and i don't think we ran into this issue either! it is a bit harsh and we thought about changing it but didn't in the end. maybe though, in hindsight, restarting the level might have been a better option. This is our first jam and we learned a ton and appreciate all the feedback and even video!
Honestly, I really enjoyed playing your game. It truly captures the essence of the NES and is fun to play. The mechanics enrich the gaming experience and make it more varied, and it also has a good level of difficulty that is challenging at many points. A great game, truly.
I love this gameplay idea of this game being a beat-em-up kind of game because you fight different enemies along the way. I only encountered 3 enemies and I ended with a score of 200. The fact that I have 3 lives is a perfect idea for the player to have only 3 chances to complete the level. Some people in the comments here are saying having 3 lives is harsh, but to me it's just right. Anyway, the audio and graphics are really good and this game does have that NES style and feel to it. My only problem I found with the game was that the player only has movement animations when I go left or right but doesn't have the up and down moving animations. That nurse was hard to kill xD
You ain't payin' no medical bills.
I completely relate to the other comments, I did not expect the environment to be so interactive starting with the apples, the different weapons, breakable things, keycards, optional rooms and especially allies, the allies are very cool. In the end the game is super fun, I like the big needle as a weapon and the difficulty of the game is perfect, I liked the tension as your allies start to die. Finally the fighting, animations and sound effect totally make it feel like a NES beat'em'all.
Thank you! we worked hard to make sure you had stuff to play with. if you have a weapon you can beat the whole game. they are placed so you will always have one. a tip for anyone saying its too hard :p though the nurse takes some timing. we really enjoyed working on this and really like the feedback as this is our first jam.
Awesome game! Even though the graphics don't look like a NES game to me, the gameplay is very NES-like. And having played a couple of NES Beat 'em ups in the past, finding out that I can interact with objects, go into the corridors and enter rooms blew my mind.
I also found one buddy who died almost immediately to one of the nurses. Great mechanic, though.
One thing that is a bit harsh is having only 3 lives, that's something I do not miss about the NES era. But this time it worked on me, I want to beat the game, so I will save it for later.
Thank you! there is actually 2 allies per level. try the vending machines :)
This game has a lot more content than I expected at the beginning! The beat-em-up gameplay works really well for the premise and the progressive introduction of new mechanics made me want to keep playing. The big needle nurse boss and her fast ground-pound move in the second phase was like “Oh this is a Souls-like”. My only critique is that I feels a bit more like an MS-DOS game than an NES game but overall super fun and kept me playing for a good few minutes to see what else there was to find!
