Very fun and difficult game.

Developer

Thank you, I am glad that you enjoyed it!

pretty hard to weed and water but still fun

Developer

Yea, it is supposed to be reminiscent of the older games which were usually pretty difficult. Thank you for playing. Glad you had fun!

This is what a jam game should be: trying new ideas and combining them with proven ones in unexpected ways to see what works. I could almost feel you learning. Mastermind is one of my all-time favourite games so I was disappointed that it wasn't fully realized here. In Mastermind, the hacker gets feedback about their guess as a whole (3 correct, 2 incorrect) not about the individual elements (right, wrong, wrong, right, right) as in your game. The fun of it is in the reasoning process where yours is just trial and error and memorization. The Whack-a-Mole weed clicking part of your game is excellent, though, as is the overall feel.

I love smashing two game styles together and seeing what I get, lol. This was one that worked fairly well. Yea, it had been a while since I played Mastermind, but that is what it reminded me of when I was implementing it. Thank you, I am glad that you had fun with it!

Highest combo: 23. Highest level: 11. (ФwФ) Soil was.... The dry one?

I liked this game, and I loved how the plants just sunk into the ground  lol good job on this! My first try was on the good looking soil and it immediately got overrun by ants so I'm happy to have figured it out by the second playthrough lol

Developer(+1)

I am glad you enjoyed it! Only beat it on good soil myself. Yea, I tried to make the correct planting order overall pretty easy to figure out.

Neat project! I managed to complete it on the rocky soil. I'm guessing the soil selection is like a difficulty setting of sorts? The arcade gameplay loop was pretty fun, but I'm not sure about the Mastermind bit. It was a bit frustrating that you need to watch the long lose animation with the ants instead of just being able to guess again immediately.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I am glad you had fun. The soil selection is indeed a difficulty setting. Rocks cause the flowers to "wilt" faster, the dry soil loses water at twice the rate.

Congratulations! I only beat it on good soil to ensure it worked, lol. Others have complained about being failed on the Mastermind bit too, one even suggesting it be changed to a debuff instead of a failure.

It was fun once I figured out the entry pattern. Companion crops are a great idea/angle, but I wonder if there is a more clear way to include that.  Could become very addicting if there was something more exciting to the combos.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! I am glad that you enjoyed it. Someone else suggested changing it from a fail to a debuff. If I revisit it, I will probably make it so flowers grow back slower when you get the pattern wrong. Any suggestions on how to make the combos more exciting?

Extra feedback sound on streak, or an extra life(flower)? There are so many options.

Developer

Both good ideas! The combo streak was actually a suggestion from a friend and this came as kind of an afterthought.

Submitted(+1)

the fact that you have to use a certain order of flowers in order to even play is really weird to me

Developer(+1)

it is kind of taken from the fact that certain plants grow better next to others. I wanted to make it only need to be done correctly once, but didn't get the chance to add that in.

Submitted(+1)

that makes sense, but maybe instead of outright failing the game you could add a debuff for it?

Developer(+1)

A good suggestion, I could make the flowers grow back slower.

Submitted(+1)

that would've been a better way to do it yeah

I keep failing right away after selecting seeds. I have no idea what is supposed to be a good choice for the seeds, but seems I always fail. It would need a better introduction to the mechanics. I'm losing before I even know what's going on.

Developer(+1)

Hints for figuring it out. When you choose a seed, the bg of it at the bottom become black or white. Sorry, kiddos, didn't grow up with hand holding tutorials. Nah, just kidding, I have been told that I need to add How To Plays or a Tutorial.
