Congratulations on winning this year's MechJam, it's most definitely deserved! If you are on Discord let me know so I can give you a Steam key as a prize!
Thank you so much! I'll message you on discord now! It was an honor to participate!
Really cool objective based shooter, with tons of polish for a jam entry !
Visually the game looks really great, i dig the mech’s design and Dr Dragon’s dragon mech.
Having any kind of voiceacting in a jam game is already quite cool but here it’s really top notch, plus i like how the mission starts with the overview where the camera moves around showing the various generators etc…
Also the fact that you can hop out of the mech and run around as just the pilot is an impressive feature as well considering the deadline :O
Only issue i had was not even your fault, it’s just that my old rig doesn’t really handle well these fancy UE games (had issues with several other entries that use it) so i’ve havent had the smoothest performance sadly :( but since it’s the engine thing i’m not taking that aspect into account for rating.
Cool entry regardless, well done :)
Thanks! The opening cutscene/voice lines was something I really wanted to. Almost cut it but glad I didnt.
While play testing I was constantly making the sound effects with my mouth (including the voice lines) :p
And yeah, I think this game was a bit more demanding compared to the other games I made in UE, definitely a learning experience.
Cool that you kept it :)
Haha would have been funny to have the mouth made sfx though it would have clashed with the tone of the game XD
Yeah but i feel that this is mostly an Unreal problem than the devs that use it, so don’t feel bad about it.
Whoa, we DID have similar ideas! Very cool game! Love the graphics and the audio, and it was a blast to play. Getting in and out of the mech was a nice touch as well. Summoning the mech didn't seem to do anything, but other than that the game ran great and I didn't have any issues. Great job!
Thanks for checking it out! Glad you enjoyed it!
It's possible that the surface you tried summoning it on wasn't flat enough. Also if you tried summoning it in the big red bubble it wont spawn. These are things I probably could have made a lot clearer with some dialogue. :p
The visuals and artwork on this was so good, also checked out your art on twitter it's amazing! I feel the audio was a bit off for me in game, the entry, track, mission setup, all that stuff was on point! The fact you made this yourself and with bugger all assets is pretty damn impressive, congrats!
Thanks, I appreciate it!
I wanted a friend of mine to work on some of the audio, but it didnt work out in the end, so I had to find some music and effects online. I'm more of a visual artist than an audio one. :p
This is fantastic! Unfortunately due to some weird bug with Unreal Engine and OBS it was running slowly on the stream even though it ran flawlessly for me, it's definitely the best optimized game out of all the UE entries this year. Really impressive and I will play a lot more of this!
Just to clarify the bug is with OBS not this game at all, this game ran amazingly.
I can also confirm it was super smooth for me and I don't have the greatest PC (already had to turn another UE game down to med)
Awesome! Thanks for playing and confirming! :)
Thanks for playing! Im glad to hear that. I was a bit afraid of dropping frames with all of the destruction physics. But I'm glad you enjoyed it!
You're welcome, yeah I can confirm I have had to turn two UE games (done 10 so far) that were on epic settings down to med to get smooth FPS, your game ran smooth with zero adjustments at all!
This is some pretty good shit. The pilot should have some indication that the pistol's range is limited. In addition, I don't know if this was intentionally, but the laser pistol despite it's shot animation messing up, appears to be semi-auto which made mashing away the shield generators really easy. One thing I didn't catch was the mention that the mech can't enter the shields but the pilot can as mentioned by others.
Hey, thanks for trying it out! I agree with what you're saying about it not being clear that the mech cant enter the zones but the pilot can. I wanted to add some voice lines tell the player that, but ran out of time.
I do agree that it is very easy to destroy the generators. In the future, if I pick this up again, I would probably add smaller batteries around the generators to destroy before destroying the big one, or something along the lines of that.
I love the visuals, and the voice acting is top tier! Although I feel like there is a bug where I can't damage the dragon even after I've destroyed all the shields. Other than that its a great game.
Thanks! Im glad you enjoyed it! There could be an issue if you destroy 2 generators before attacking the dragon, but thats just the first thing that comes to my head. I can look further into it.
Cool game! You forgot to mention pilot as additional theme of the game. It is really rare when you can play as mecha and as pilot at the same game. Nicely done! Bravo!
Thanks! Interestingly enough, I totally missed that being a theme for the jam. I'll make that adjustment now. :)
This is awesome! Controls feel awesome, boosting, flying, and shooting all work great. Took me a few minutes to realize that you need to get out of the mech to enter the shielded areas, but once I figured that out, I cleared the rest without too much trouble. It was super fun! Graphics look great, and the sound effects and bgm were very well chosen. Nice to have voice acting and an intro cutscene too, great work!
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I wanted to add some additional voice lines that would tell you to hop out of the mech, but sadly ran out of time. :p
