This game was extremely fun to play! Each zone brought new challenges, and I was blown away by the brilliant level design of the different areas! I always knew exactly where I was supposed to be going, and the controls felt responsive, even while in the air. I enjoyed many of the little details, like the buildings in the background, and how the player does a spin in the air after jumping! 10/10, definitely worth playing to completion!

Developer

Were glad you enjoyed it! Thank you :)

Sorry I can't play for vote for you game as you updated it during voting. It's not fair on the other entries.

Developer(+1)

while I understand if you feel that way, we followed community guidelines regarding updating your game. When we released it was in an unplayable state and according to the discord we were permitted to update it to be in a playable state.

That said, if you wanna try the game and give feedback, but not vote that's completely fine! We are more so here for what people thought and how we can improve rather than the competition aspect.

Hi I understand if people update it to be in a playable state 6 days ago, maybe even 4-5 days ago. But not 2 days before the end of voting. That means you had an extra 4-5 days to everyone else and I'm sorry but I just don't think that's fair on the other entrants, especially as you can do a LOT more than just make it playable in that time. After voting I'll have a go and give you some feedback, I know how important it is for being able to improve. But I would still like people to remember that this is ultimately a competition, and a competition should have rules that are fair to everyone who has entered. And based on the feedback from Dungeon 3 days ago it was playable!

Developer

Thank you for your feedback it will be noted and considered for the next jam.

Sadly I couldn't really progress, the cars felt way too awkward to jump across and the one time I did do it the last few frames of animation catapulted me away.

Developer

Really unfortunate, but thank you for trying it! We will make it a focus to work on level balance and difficulty in the future.

Developer

heya! I saw that people were updating their games so I went ahead and updated this one to allow people to be able to play it! The graphics have been set to scalable and lumen has been turned off. I also made alternate paths that people can go on! Since you have already tried it I'd understand if you didn't want to again, but if you were interested I just wanted to share with you that it has been fixed :)

These updates just happened 7-24-23 too so it was post jam submission.

Well sorry but sadly with my potato grade hardware i can’t run it well and give it a proper rating :(

Shame really cause from the screenshots it looks cool.

Developer(+1)

thank you for trying! My team and I will definitely have to look into those settings, we just ran with unreal default and apparently that is god mode lol. Dang but thanks again!

Submitted(+1)

No worries, i feel this just mostly due to Unreal more than entries that use it, cause the engine alone feels like a hungry beast ressource wise XD

Developer(+1)

complete mood lol, I went went ahead and updated it last night so that it should be playable now. If you were still interested I'd love to hear your feedback on the game as is, if not nbd and I appreciate you trying it :)

Submitted

Haha well tried it again and i still have issues, but don’t blame yourself, my machine is potato grade so i think the base specs of just UE5 alone compared to what my hardware can handle, might be why i’m still having issues sorry :(

Developer(+1)

well I really appreciate you going hard and trying it again! That means a lot and will definitely be something we keep in mind when deciding engines in the future.

Unfortunately my laptop couldn't run it above 10fps, even after customizing nvidia geforce to optimize it.

I don't think I can give this game the rating it deserves, because I love the art and the cute little robot character!

Developer

I appreciate you trying to play the game! Unfortunately between graphics and difficulty this first game is a bit rough, but we appreciate all the feedback we are getting and will definitely make a more optimized game for our next jam :)

And thanks our art team went really hard on byte! He's my PFP on twitter - Zonnap

Developer(+1)

I wanted to say I really appreciated you going the extra mile to try and optimize your PC for the game. It really meant a lot to the team here! I wanted to let you know that I updated the game last night to where it should now be in a playable state if you wanted to give it a shot :) if not I understand and appreciate your feedback!

I have to commend you and your team for responding to player feedback with speed and accuracy. And with the new build (and a much more powerful machine!) I can finally review this:

I still stand by my opinion on the character! The environment art is also very captivating and tells a very cool story (is the city below built from a fallen mech?)

Loved the new map. The new platforms and paths made it much more engaging to experiment and learn. There were some moments that felt punishing however: I learned to glide to the feet of the mech (was a little sad I didn't win by touching its feet), but there was no way to escape so I restarted.

I spent a good while figuring out how the bounce platforms worked, and got my final time to 29 seconds! but the final screen didn't show my current time, or best time, so that's more of an estimation.

There was very little air-control, so most of the platforming felt at the mercy of the bounce pads or whatever my little legs could muster.

Submitted(+1)

oh and there was something off with the camera controls. They would lock up and after experimenting in windowed mode it looked like it was tracking raw mouse position change, rather than raw mouse motion, so it would stop moving the camera my mouse reached the edge of the screen

Developer(+1)

Thank you for trying overbyte again! We really appreciate it :). I'll definitely look into options for window mode users too as that is fantastic feedback thank you!

As for the air controls I think making them easier to use would've helped with the cars some as well, I'll see what I can do in the future or once this jam is over, but fantastic! And congratulations on the 29 seconds!!

A leaderboard/Final time was definitely planned, but had to get cut at the last minute due to time constraints funny enough lol, that said I'll see if I can add one in a future build :)

thank you again for trying the game it really made my day to hear it was working for you!

This is a cute little 3D platformer you've got going here, but unfortunately, I wasn't able to make it very far. I find the cars are moving just a bit too fast, and the character just doesn't jump high enough or move fast enough for me to be able to consistently land on them, so despite like 20 ish attempts I was never able to make it past the intro section. Still, the graphics and animations of the player character are super cute, and the background music is nice too, so great job on those!

Developer

thank you for your feedback!! We will definitely make a note of this and use it to help in our future games! Also I'm glad you like the character lol byte was fun to play with :)

I am going to as many games as I can on this jam and leaving constructive and positive feedback.

Constructive: The game is a bit too difficult. I struggled with getting to the second platform from the blue cars for quite a while. When I finally did make it, I suddenly hit a game over screen and had to fully restart. I can only assume this had something to do with the battery meter in the bottom left of the screen as I didn't fall.

 - To remedy this: adding checkpoints or getting rid of the battery mechanic since the platforms are already difficult to manage.

Positive Feedback: The games art looks beautiful and the little robot is a fun character to play. I also loved the jumping animation for the character. I also felt the movement was smooth and easy to master.

Over all I think this was a great submission with very polished movements and animations, but just needs a little work on the level design/ core game mechanics to make it a little bit easier. There were tons of cool looking places in the screenshots but I was unable to get to that point in the game. If I was missing a mechanic here that made me fail the run id be curious to know.

Nice work!!

Developer

thank you for your feedback! I am really curious as the game over screen however. Those should only trigger if you fall, hit the red firewall or take damage from enemies. Do you remember when it happened?

And we really appreciate the constructive criticism it helps a bunch!!

Submitted

Oh it may have been the red firewall, I didn't know what it was until now. Is there a platform to drop down from? the most visible path runs you straight into the fire ring before i have time to see where else to go, but maybe i was missing something.

Developer

ope yep there's a platform to drop to! But that still means I should've made it more visible. Glad to know it wasn't a bug atleast!
