Cool idea of reversing the TD Game ahah

Nice! Makes me think someone was making a game for GMTK jam and didn't quite finish ;) (role reversal). The theme adherence is maybe a little fuzzy, but it's otherwise perfectly functional, and quite difficult! I think the most I managed was to get one silly little bug through the whole gauntlet, hehe. But I can see there're some kinds of strategies to be had, and I really like the diversity of units.

Developer

Yeah the GMTK theme would've fit us better for sure 😅 That's on me, I wanted to try a TD for this jam and incorporating exploration into a tower defense idea wasn't really easy. I can assure you though, that this was only worked on during this jam, including idea conception. (Except that I wanted to do a TD in general)

Developer(+1)

Actually, wasn't the GMTK a week-long jam? I'll take that as a huge compliment then. (Also just spamming mobs until no money is left is a shockingly effective strategy)

Nice creative implementation of the theme for the TD genre. Objective was clear and I liked the polish on buttons, loading screens and hover tooltips even though it wasn't so necessary to read them. I was left wishing for keyboard 1-10 buttons to be able to buy the bugs with also. I think the shortish levels (level) where you just send troops tactically fit into casual game quite well and could be quite fun pastime on mobile.  Great work and I liked the shorter play experience with the inevitable dopamine hit of winning after having some doubts when my cash ran out. Lol, I was also gonna say that art was good but then I remembered that I didn't have to encourage your artist(s) since we used Kenney's art. I guess this goes to say that you made  the art style your own.

Thank you for this elaborate comment 😊 Didn't even think about assigning the 1-10 shorthand. Would make a lot of sense, I agree

Developer

Hey thank you very much! Great feedback, some more imput options would have been great, I agree.

And yeah, I also often though "what nice art" until I remembered the source of it. The artists in our team still did great work, taking their first steps in development <3

Really like this game! Super fun colors and quick paced action. What's a good score?

Developer

Thank you :) Your score is good, I'd say everything above 1000 is great. Leftover money is a major contributor, so judging how many mobs in which combination are already enough to win the level is currently the big challenge. I think biggest score I got myself was ~1400-1500.

Thanks for the info. I'll try again and see if I can get over 1k. Great submission, one of the best I played.

Developer

Wow thank you so much, that is high praise!

The was a well-polished TD game here and one that really drives the theme as well. I liked the options for bugs to use and the particle feedback was the icing on the cake. Well done here!

Developer

Thanks! I'm also glad I put particles in, almost last minute.

Really cool game with a pretty unique idea. Enjoyed the variety of bugs. Overall a well made reverse tower defense game! Good job!

Developer

We did the theme of this jam AND the one before! Look at us go :D

Thanks for the kind words.

Fits with the theme very well. Good job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you. Honestly I was kind if shocked at the theme reveal. I hadn't done a TD until now and wanted to do one for this jam. But exploration really doesn't jive with a static TD, so we decided to flip the genre to match the theme better. :)

Like the concept ! Well play

Really cool game liked sending the bugs through the castle

I liked the revealing map with bugs we send, nicely polished game well done!

Developer

This was a mechanic in an earlier jam as well. Seems like a thing that attracts the player. Good to know.

...attrackts players, light bugs to the light???

Fun and really well made! I like the variety in bugs that can be used.

With regards to the scoring system could it be changed so that rather than being a combination of time taken and money left at the end, it also counted the sum cost of the units still alive? I ask because in my first run I got a score of around 1475, but in my second I only got 615 despite being much faster (and I had a lot of units still alive at the end)

Other than that this is a really well made reverse tower defence game, would love to see more levels added!

Developer

Thanks for the kind feedback. That is a valid idea, the idea why we didn't do it this way was that unit spamming was too strong of a tactic. But, now that you mention it, we actually wanted to delay the win until there were no mobs on screen anymore , so that scavengers could add money longer. We could also increase the score by how many mobs actually reach the goal... things to think about for a mini update after the jam

Submitted

Ahh gotcha, that makes sense then. I look forward to trying it again after a possible mini update!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Every remaining unit counts as one point towards your remaining money. That is multiplied by the time it took.

It was implemented rather late, so there might be some flaws. 1,4k is a reeeally good score though :D well done!
