Maaate this game is awesome nice work!  I love a good strategy game, had a lot of fun everything worked well.  Was confused on mountain boys at first but after getting that civilization sucks I understood their purpose.  Really fun game thanks!

Great entry!

It's really pleasing to see the forest grow. And I'd like to know how many turns to reach 1000 cash means fast?I took 17 turns but I think I did not get the trick to play. For example I don't understand what's the function of  mountain to help the forest grow.

Developer

First of all thanks for the feedback! The use case of mountains is really not that obvious..

The mountain tile helps indirectly by neutralizing potentially harmful tiles. My 3 use cases are: "spot a tile where a city could pop up next turn and neutralize it", "stop a city from spreading by neutralizing the forest tiles around it" and "spend 1 cash to neutralize a savanna which would cost you 1 cash per turn". I actually only intended the first case and wanted the player to also have this AHA moment while optimizing  their strategies as I did while testing.

OK  I see.I rechecked the rule just now  and found I misunderstood the rules.I intuitively thought city will add cash.Thank you for explanation!

Fun game! I love the simple goal. At first I was a little confused on what to do with my tiles, but after placing down a few it clicked

I love it! a cozy building of a civilization. I gonna be honest and I don't know how I won, I was just messing around having a good time. Great work! Keep it up!

This was a neat little mechanic and it fit the theme nicely. I didn't play for too long, but one pretty consistent strategy I found was to make an ever-expanding lake starting near the center of the map and growing out into the forest tiles that spawn, which seemed to keep civilizations from spawning (not sure if that was intended). My fastest run was 21 turns, what was yours?

Developer

My best run

Actually expanding lakes and rivers were the initial thought of the project but I didn't know how to balance the game to encourage them. Turns out it's a viable starting strategy. I was able to get my best run from 13 to 12. Thanks for giving me strategies for my own game! :D

I win somehow don't ask me how, IDK

This was a really cool puzzle mechanic you thought of! I would love to see it implemented in different ways. You could create smaller levels with some established tiles already and have X turns to generate X money, or reach X generation in one turn, or convert all tiles from desert to forest, etc. The list of puzzle possibilities are endless!

It could use some sound effects and some relaxing music, but that's a given! Great job for 48 hours! You should definitely consider polishing it up after the jam!

Thank you for those nice words. I didn't really plan to continue the project afterwards, but your idea of smaller levels and actually using the mechanic in more planned puzzles seems like a really good idea. So I might continue.

Thanks so much for the feedback!

Haha, yeah I am in the same boat (pun not intended xD) with my submission. It looks like you've got most of the mechanics you'd need already to do it though. But also I understand that sometimes when you code things without the intent of going back to them, and you are pressed for time, and best practices get tossed out the window, going back can be more trouble than its worth lol

Either way, from one newish competent indie game dev to another, I am excited to see what you roll out in the future!

Okay, that's a very interesting concept of the whole "place a tile" approach! Just a minor note, there's something "wrong" with your UI positioning or scaling. Switched to fullscreen at first before playing (on a 32:9 screen) and I didn't see the menu on top, which confused me quite a bit.

Developer

Oh no, I'm sorry for the confusion. I haven't considered testing other aspect ratio. Thank you for the feedback! :)

No worries! If AAA productions can screw this up, small game jam games are totally allowed to do so, too! And it's often not even obvious.😀

I really liked it, I would love a sandbox version where I could see civilizations grow ( and fall ) without having to flood all the map to avoid humans :) The graphics are great, and all the civilizations were legendary. Well done!

Developer

Thank you for your feedback! :)

The head scratches are what I was going for. Goal achieved!

I really like your game too. I didn't realize I can destroy stuff until I touched a skyscraper with my crowd. :D
