I was one of the official judges this year, and now that the results have been made public, and I'm free to do so, here is my score and thoughts on this title:

Overall score: 7.5

Cute sim game, but was lacking real depth. I liked the Blob character, but he was the only speaking character, and with only three maps to explore, with no variation, it got a little tedious and repetitive. I also had some issues with placing buildings. Maybe try having it be a free placement (not reliant on where the PC is standing) to make it a little easier to build efficiently. Still, was cute and I enjoyed it.

I livestreamed this game, and was enjoying it, but sadly I got soft-locked pretty early on.

  • Cool concept! I have no idea of how the map reveal function is handled. My best guess is some super-imposed layer? Good job on it anyway.
  • I rather enjoyed the exploration/gathering short rounds! It was neat and snappy.
  • It would be great if the exploration feature has a simple "retry" prompt instead of always sending you back on the town.
  • When placing wells it would be amazing if it showed he area of effect it will cleanse so you can plan the best place to put it and save precious space.
  • Without a way to move or destroy buildings, I got stuck once my bad (I guess?) planning prevented me from building anything else. I understand it was probably due to time constraints and coding. If nothing else, a destruction function would work wonders.
  • More work, but probably necessary QoL: when building a new piece, it should display the space around it it would make "unavailable" once built.
  • Maybe it's because I was streaming, but I did notice some lag in your base. Probably the code + the CPU being busy streaming, but it would be nice if that could be smoothed.
  • I did not get very far. Once I reached the northwest corner of the build map and headed down, I ran out of building space. Could not build houses, and therefore could not build any more wells for space, nor destroy badly-placed ones. I was not willing to have to redo the tutorial again, so I can't speak about the rest of the game.

I'm fairly sure I would have enjoyed this game had it had more time to smooth out the big problems. I can't blame it, since the short time frame and probably intensive coding might have been incompatible. It's a pity, but this might be a good project to keep expanding or at least polishing more.

This is a super chill and fun game that I definitely hope gets expanded in the future! Something to consider moving forward with development would be to create a few more larger spaces, since it was sometimes very restrictive where you could place certain pieces and more than once, I thought I was soft-locked because there was only one possible location for my next piece.

Even with that, I found this game to be pleasant to play and I hope you'll keep work on it in the future!

I see we are returning colour to the world rather than draining the life out of everything in that other game :P Really cool effect to see the circle expand rejuvenating the land. Nice to see you working on plugins doing all these cool stuff Drag!

Nowis! I didn't know you participated too, I'm glad to see you here. :D

Hehehe, yeah, it's kind of the same concept, but done completely differently. It's less performance friendly, but I think the overall result effect is prettier.
Thanks for playing my game, I'll play yours a bit later!
Stay safe!

I watched a friend play this.

The use of colour in this game is very beautiful and the concepts are very solid. It's a shame you didn't have enough time to make a more complete experience, but what you presented here was enjoyable and I'd love to check out a later build in the future.

Hello Makio !

Thanks a lot for your feeback, I'm really glad you and your friend played and enjoyed my game. :)
Yeah, it was already tough to do that in one month and sadly I couldn't expand as much as I wanted the building and exploration part and it lack a bit of content.
Thanks again and see you around in the future then, stay safe !

Concept-wise I really like this game. I love the restoration effect on the maps and the possibility of building the village as you want. My suggestions to improve the game are: 1) add a way to demolish your buildings to avoid possible locks, 2) optimize parallel process event to reduce lags and 3) implement a good save system (I guess for the jam you can't do it but it wasn't a problem for me).

Good job and keep it up!

Hello Thund !

I'm really glad you played my game and enjoyed it.

These are 3 good suggestions. I was working on the demolition part but ran out of time :(.

The lag is actually caused by the differents shaders and masks used for the revealing effect and fog/water animation. Its a technology I'm still learning and I will definitely improve that part over time :).

Yes I figured for the game jam it wasn't necessary to be able to save, the game is short enough. I removed cause it was causing issue with some cloned events.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions, I'll play your entry later. See you around and stay safe !

Figured I'd post your feedback here since I got this one for judging.

I like the concept and idea of this. I would like to see this improved into a bigger game. I do wish I had an undo button for building though the first time I played it I got in a position where I couldn't put the farm anywhere as the house was in a bad spot.

I do think you may need to optimize the code though. You will notice I did say above 1st time I played it. See my PC I was using for all the contest entries got 4 FPS on this game. I think it might be due to all the checks in the area for town building. It actually eventually crashed to 0 FPS and froze. So I tried my high end gaming rig with an SSD and then it worked fine with good FPS all the way, and I was able to play to completion then. Still this could be something to look at as my PC from 2017 that I first played it on is still pretty high end and it shouldn't have struggled that badly to run the game.

Overall though I think you got a good idea here and would like to see this expanded.

Hey Bg !
Yeah, some PC will have a hard time running that game, it's because of the PIXI shaders and masks used to make the "revealing effect", as well as the water and fog effects. It's some code runned by GPU only, so some chipsets or old graphics cards will not be able to process that. It's something still very new to me and I will definetely try to optimize that in the future. :)

I'm really glad you managed to play it. Undo a building is a pretty good idea and I was actually trying to do it when I ran out of time, sadly. But anyway, I'm happy you played it and you enjoyed it, even tho you have hit some limitations of this game/prototype.
See you around and stay safe, Bg ! :D

Thank you Skepsys ! I'm glad you played my game and you enjoyed it :D
I'll probably extand that prototype once the game jam is over, feedback I'm gonna get will help me know if the concept really worth it or not.
See you around, my friend, stay safe. :)

This seemed like the foundation for something greater. I liked the concept of running around a dangerous area picking up items and using those items to bolster a home area, but it seemed like there wasn't a lot to gather and I could only do a little bit at home. It's still a very solid foundation for a gameplay loop, however, and I hope you fiddle with it a bit more down the line! Well done!

Hello Terminus !
Thanks for playing my game and for your feedback !
Yes, you are right, this is an early prototype. It was already a challenge to do that in less than 1 month, especially during summer, period when I don't have a lot of time to spend in game dev'. But I'm really glad you played it and enjoyed it a bit !
See you around and stay safe, I'll take a look at your entry later ! :)
