That was fun and pleasantly challenging! I like how it felt fair and my fault for being impatient whenever I died. The enemies telegraph their moves clearly and have consistent attack patterns making it easy to learn (if you’re paying attention)

Fun game! The sounds and animations are great, AND the gameplay is solid. Chaining charge attacks together feels buttery smooth and badass. My only gripe is I wish there was a resolution limit or adjustment, because I have a 4k monitor and my computer cannot run this well in fullscreen, but I would love to experience it in fullscreen. Excellent work!

Very beautiful game, but pretty hard, I really like it though.

The slash effect killing the player character is kinda annoying, it hit me several times when I thought I was far enough and in a safe area.

Can you add some shield pickups or make the slash effect area smaller to make the game easier?

Developer

Thank you!

Yes, designing difficulty to be fun for everyone is something I find quite challenging. Some people prefer a more relaxed experience, while others prefer a very difficult, borderline frustrating experience (I am one of such people).

I think you are right about the hitboxes. Sometimes they are a little too big especially from certain angles because it’s 2.5D, which makes hitboxes a bit more challenging in general.

I like the idea of some sort of shield - it could even be something like a configurable handicap depending on how hard you want the game to be, thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for playing!

Great work, my favorite game so far. It's really addicting.

The game was fun 5/5.

Originality 4/5: It's unique but it's not the most unique thing ever, its a good game but its not super duper original, that's why I'm giving a 4/5.

Presentation 5/5. I really love your art, this is what I dreamt about when starting to create my game, but art takes so much time when you're only one person working on the project. Great art, great music, great theme. You really hit all the boxes of presentation, well done!

Score chasing: 5/5 So addicting,. The one shot element is great and the slow-mo and everything, its really well done and satisfying, every death is clear. Really well made! Souls-like deaths where you feel its your own fault.

Theme: 5/5, one shot or be one shot. Its a great representation!

Only improvement I could see is that the shift ability just becomes too strong later in the game, would be fun if it had a long cooldown or if we had other abilities.

I'm really impressed this is how I wish my game turned out!

Thank you so much for the detailed review, I’m glad you enjoyed!

I’m a huge fan of souls-like combat, so I’m really glad that came across!

Just in case you are curious, we are a 2 person team. My friend did the art, and I do everything else - I can’t even imagine how hard it would be if I had to do the art myself!

Thanks again for the kind words, they are very encouraging :)

PS: Since you seem to have enjoyed quite a bit - did you manage to figure out the hidden mechanic to keep your combo multiplier stacking forever?

Submitted

I realized there has to be some way to get it to stack forever because of the highest scores are insane. But no sadly my combo ended even when I tried to dash around quickly after my shifts to get more enemies for my next shift attack

Developer

Try using your dodge in a creative way :)

Cool samurai simulator! Nice settings, art and mood. Sometimes we both die with enemy, this is intended?

Developer(+1)

Thanks! It was originally a bug, but then I decided to call it a feature haha

Pixel art games always enchant me! Very fun, after evaluating others games I will come back to get a position on the leaderboard

Submitted(+1)

Really liked the pixel animation. Nicely done.

The game play is smooth.
It was fun killing the enemies.
I think it's possible to infinitely recharge your powerup in the late game.
I didn't reach that far for now, I'll do some mores testing to get that.
I enjoyed the game.

Developer

Thank you!

There's actually a hidden mechanic to let you keep your combo going from the very start.

Hint: It involves dodging :)

Slicing enemies is really cool , nice game GG

Submitted(+1)

The polish of this game is that of a commercially published game. God damn, it's beautiful. Can tell everything was well-thought of and to great detail which shows. It took me a bit to get used to but that's definitely just me 😅 Really don't have anything else to add, it's a solid solid entry, top work my man! 👏👏

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! This is the hardest I've ever worked on a game and I'm glad that comes across. Thanks for playing, and thank you for the kind words!

Submitted(+1)

Yes, It really shows the love & care that was put in the game!
Also, While giving feedback on other games, I've seen your comments giving detailed feedback (even for my game). I just wanted to appreciate that cause you're helping out the devs so much by doing that c:

Developer(+1)

I see you doing the same yourself!

I figure since I have the time, I might as well do my part to try and help out! I'd love to see the whole game dev community prosper :)

The game looks really beautiful, its so pleasing to look at with the cool background music. It definitely shows the effort you have put in. Congratulations for making the game, loved it!!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words!

Awesome game! The art is beautiful, and the mechanics are satisfying. I really love the parry and chain attack mechanic! The way you keep the game fun with only two enemy types is amazing! One of my favorite entries

Developer

Thanks so much!

Submitted(+1)

Amazing Game! The art and audio is good and consistent. the difficulty is just right. One of the best entries. All the best :)

Developer

Thank you!

Submitted(+1)

A very fun game, I like how there was a lot of thought and effort put into all aspects of the game, like having a different death animation for different enemies.

Developer

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed :)

Submitted(+1)

A very polished game with beautiful art! I just had trouble dodging the attacks, but that's because I'm a bad player xD

Developer

Thank you for the kind words :)

A tip for dodging melee enemies is to wait for them to start their attack, move away from them once they start, and then you'll have plenty of time to hit them while they recover from their attack!

Extra points for the theme matching and hyplay being pretty smooth, but I struggled with the gameplay personally, maybe the game needs a mouse and not a laptop pad

Developer

Yes, I'd imagine the game would be VERY challenging with just a trackpad.

Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Excellent work. Very polished, well scoped for the jam, and arcadey. Hyplay integration is pretty seamless too.

Developer

Thanks!

Submitted(+1)

The art and music are some of the best at JAM, very enjoyable, congratulations.

PD: It's so difficult for someone without hands like me hehehe

Submitted(+1)

Gives me a Sekiro vibe.

If you had a parry function in it, that would be top notch.

Great job!

Developer

Yes! I contemplated adding a separate parry ability but opted to keep things simpler because I always tend to overscope haha

Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Love this! Reminds me of Bushido Blade. Great Job!

Developer

Oh boy, I had never heard of that game before - I bet I would have loved it as a kid.

I'm glad you enjoyed, thanks!
