  • this game looks really nice, and the theme implementation is really cool - the enemies are designed in a way that really highlights the main mechanic. Great job! My one complaint would be the control scheme, tank movement feels really weird for this sort of game. It adds to the challenge for sure, but it definitely impacted the fun I had with the game.

How does your game relate to the theme?
You start with one bullet. Each enemy you defeat gives you a bullet. One hit kills you.

Nice space shooter, movement felt bit weird, but vfx are good

Developer

Thanks! I will try to improve the controls!

Thank you very much!!!

Stylish game! I like art and sounds. Rotating a bit fast, so aiming hard, and easier to avoid dangers. Maybe you can add sensitivity settings or so? Or maybe add thrust for side engines?
The retro atmosphere is captured very well, congrats!

Thank you very much for playing and for the feedback! The side boost idea is very good and I'll try to implement something along those lines! I'm really glad you liked the retro atmosphere.

Nice game! Animation and music is good, and I really like how the enemy ships can collide and destroy eachother. Difficulty curve is good, and it gets real fun when hectic. Good work!

Developer

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it! It's always difficult to balance the difficulty curve during a jam, as it depends on gameplay testing, so I made my day when you said it was good!

This game is soo satisfying.
I gave up on shooting. and was just dodging the entire time.
Still, was very fun.

Developer

Thank You! This is a good way to score without worrying about ammo!

Wow! One of my favorites from the jam!

I loved the background art, the explosion particles, the sfx, and lots of other things.

I really like how you kept it simple - it was well scoped or a game jam game. 3 types of enemies was enough to keep it challenging and engaging.

My feedback:

  • The ship turned at too fast of a rate - I had to release the keys very quickly to make sure it wouldn't overturn. I wish the default was less sensitive, or that there was a menu option to adjust this
  • The audio for the ship was kinda abrupt/ buggy if you are doing several very small movements - I think because it's triggering the same effect every time a key is pressed. Maybe you could mitigate this by not playing the sound effect if it was very recently played.
  • It felt a bit too easy to get bullets. At the start they feel like a very valuable and limited resource, and then after a couple seconds of ships colliding into eachother, you have more bullets than you would ever need
  • I think you could make getting points more exciting - maybe extra points for killing ships as opposed to them running into eachother, maybe bullets pierce or have aoe and you can get multi hits, or maybe you can stack up a multiplier by getting many kills in quick succession. Also you could add some classic arcade juice with colorful numbers and numbers racking up

Really awesome entry, very well done!

Thank you very much for the feedback! I'm very happy that you liked it!

Really balancing the number of bullets was difficult and didn't turn out the way I wanted.

I was doing these juice effects with shiny numbers just as the jam time ended XD! But after the jam is over I will send the improved version and you can check it out!

Great visual experience, lots of juice, all SFX are very well integrated, great sound design
The only flaw would be the movement of the ship, maybe  tad stiff. Otherwise great experience

Developer

thanks!!

That was really hard! The retro aesthetic works well with the limited/tanky controls I think. It looks and feels really nice. I also had a fun time just flying around and watching the AI blow themselves up lol

Developer

Thank you very much! Flying and letting enemies kill each other is the best way to score!

Absolutely love the artwork, phenomenal job on that. Simple yet full & complete. Initially I felt the controls are a bit tight but then it felt like its just a skill graph so yep, game balance is good too. I like how the enemy spaceships destroy on collision with each other, it really helps with the game balance. Oh, the explosion VFX too (it comes under artwork right?) The game is addictive - I got 270 highest in 4 tries, I am a noob 😅 Maybe I will come back to take a spot on the leaderboard once I'm done rating the games. Great job man, one of the best pixel artwork games in the jam!

Using game assets properly/in the right way is also a skill in my opinion and you did it very well!! Congrats once again! 😁

I liked it! I’m not sure why, but it reminded me of the old asteroid game on the TMobile sidekick lol (maybe the pink colors)

The art looked great and those explosion effects were very satisfying. The only gripe I have is that the bullets might be a bit hard to see. They don’t stand out enough and it gets kind of confusing when you’re absorbing energy from enemies. Maybe more playthroughs would have trained me to spot them better, but I scored a perfect 420 on the leaderboard

Developer

Thank you very much for the feedback! I will definitely improve the visualization of the bullets after the jam.
