holy moly you guys cut it close

What an amazing tentacle! It moved like a real thing :)

It’s very interesting how this was implemented, is it procedurally generated?

Fun game, i like the simplicity of the controls. I did however encounter a bug where enemies stopped spawning after a while

The right click attack is super satisfying, I kept waiting until a lot of enemies appeared so I can suck them all up. It's a good idea that you ARE the void. Fun little game.

I like your game, the score table definitely was a hook to keep me playing more and more)
(I think also that summarize score points of different approaches is not very fair, but I used it as in my 1st game enemies stopped spawning at about 16800)
I wish I had and opportunity to move the void, but it's fun enough as it is.
Like the risk-reward balance for the special attack.
Well done)

Oooooo, fun little game you got. Def could see this as a mobile game with how touch-friendly the interface could be. Possibly even a cookie-clicker type game.

Would love to see audio in this game at some point. Get some cartoony music in there with sounds of warfare and it will def bring up the joy of consuming peepz.

Regardless, cool stuff~!

This is a fun little game that I feel like has a home on tablets. Are there touch controls? I managed to get to 20800 score and then enemies stopped spawning, is this intentional? Anyway great job!

Developer

Thanks so much for playing and glad you enjoyed it :) Unfortunately it's not intensional to have them stop spawning and I'm currently investigating the root cause for that bug. It seems to be occurring at slightly different points for different players so thanks for your feedback on when it occurred for you.

Great suggestion on targetting tablets actually, I hadn't really considered that for the jam. I haven't specifically set up touch controls but that should be an easy addition once the upload lock lifts :)

I really like the visuals on this! The pixel art and the color palette really works well together.

I also liked the nice touch of gradually zooming out to show the void expansion. Its also a genius way to up the difficulty by allowing more enemies on screen at once. Gameplay is simple, yet addictive (I played till i died)

Game would be awesome with music and SFX, but it already is great as is!

Developer

We're super glad to hear that you enjoyed the gameplay and art so much :) We totally agree that having some music and sfx will lift it to the next level and we're actively working on both of those for a post review update, so keep your eyes peeled for that :)

Fun to play! Enjoyed it a lot. I see in the comments i wasn't the only one who couldn't figure out why the special attack 'wasn't working'. I think more visual or audio feedback to the player could have guided us better to hold it down.

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for trying out the game and we're glad you enjoyed it :) We appreciate the feedback on the special attack and agree that it needs further revision. At the moment we're leaning towards having it not require a charge up to allow it to be more useful in tight situations as the enemies ramp up. This coupled with some SFX for it should give it a much more impactful feel in game.

I really like how when you start they be just chillin :)

was fun to play, enjoyed click off all the enemies, would be much cooler if there were sound effects!

Developer

Glad to hear you had fun playing :)

Yes we agree regarding the sound effects, it would really sell the impacts hitting the enemies much better. Unfortunately time just got the best of us this time around

A short but sweet little clicker-game where you grow a pixelated void by absorbing your enemies, all done in a really cute, Atari-reminiscent art style. It's a neat idea and satisfyingly executed, although the gameplay is a little shallow and the special attack is too risky to practically use at the moment - maybe increasing the expand speed would help make it more useful. It also seems to just stop spawning enemies for me at around 16400 points (happened in my ~3 attempts every time), which is a shame, because the difficulty was just ramping up at that part.

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for playing, really appreciate the deep review.

Noted regarding the special attack speed, we will improve its expanding speed for our next build. Regarding the spawning not working that its definitely not intended and is very frustrating that we didn't spot this bug before submitting :( We will investigate this and resolve it for our post review build. Do you feel the difficult needs to be increased more rapidly in the early phase of the game?

Submitted

That's sad to hear, mistakes like these tend to sneak themselves in at the worst times possible. I think that the difficulty curve is pretty good as it is, could be a little faster, but it's not too slow for me. Will be happy to try it out once the next build releases :)

I had a lot of fun playing this one. The art is really charming and the void's attack visual is very cool. I never figured out how to use the special ability though.

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for playing and we're really glad to hear you enjoyed the game :)

We had actually built a tutorial that walks through the game mechanics, including the special attack, but unfortunately missed the deadline for that build by a few minutes which is a shame.

Once the energy bar is filled it will flash green to signal you can use your special attack. To use it you need to hold down right mouse button for a few seconds, you'll see a large circle growing from within your void, and anything inside the circle will get absorbed when you release. You can risk holding it longer which will absorb pretty much everything on screen if you can risk losing some health during the charge up.
