This was cool: I really liked to overall design in terms of the art, sound design etc. it has a really nice atmosphere to it. The game control and concept were good too: I found it a bit hard a first, but got the hang of it after a few deaths :)
Super cool game! I liked the pixel art a whole lot (especially the little characters) and the overall presentation was very good. Sound design was on point too. I rage quit after two runs in which I got downgrades that made it very difficult to shoot (a whirl thing making it very hard to aim and an icy thing which made bullets take a running start, often crashing on the wall behind me in tight quarters).
Nice job, great entry!
Thank you for playing my game and commenting. I'm surprised that you liked the sound effects. Cause I made all of them with my headphone mic and audacity. And I'm definitely not good at it. ;)
Most people hate the spiral attack. And that's fair, cause it combines very lousy. But I like the idea that not every spell is a direct upgrade. The only combination that works quite well with the spiral is the nova. But this one is hard to find.
Wow, great entry! Nice graphics, eerie atmosphere and tight controls!
There was only one thing I didn't like: I've had a quite powerful character but then I got the spin upgrade, after that I had a hard time hitting the enemies I wanted to. Especially the archers became very difficult to fight with that.
Thanks for the feedback and for playing my game.
Actually in the early testing some of my testers hated this upgrade. But I kept it as an anti feature. :D Some power ups still combine pretty good with the spiral. For example the nova.
Hope the spiral frustrated you not too much. ;)
Very nice atmosphere and graphics work on this one! I like the general mechanics as well.
Things that would be nice to me would be some sort of heal mechanic (unless I missed it!) and also not sticking to walls so much when you hit them; would be nice to be able to slide next to them.
There is a heal mechanic. In some levels there are wells. But they are super rare. Maybe I will increase the probability that a well occurs or introduce portions. Let's see. And I try to fix the slide also for the post jam version. Thank you very much for your feedback. And thanks a lot for taking the time playing my game. :)
I could finally play it yay !
Sometime I felt like the attack sprite go trought an ennemy. I also would have liked an auto attack instead of having to click.
Great rogue-like game overall !
thanks for playing.
Maybe you had the hidden book or thunder book. Then it's intentional that the attacks go through. ;) But it's definitely not bug free.
Autoattack is possible. Just keep pressing the mouse button.
It seems the autoattack work randomly for me, some time I launch the game and it doesn’t work, sometime not. I imagine it come from my end.
Excellent take on the theme. Great atmosphere and sound effects. I like the upgrade system, however the speed upgrade doesn't feel significant. Your attack speed always feels slow in proportion to the number of enemies. The "hidden" upgrade feels very powerful, but stopped working around level 6? You say in a comment there are 15 books, but I only ever found 3 different kinds. Sorry for nitpicking, this game is actually really good overall.
Thank you very much for playing my game.
You mean the upgrade that makes the attack fly faster? I will look into that and patch it for the after-jam submission. But that the "book of the hidden" stopped working is strange. Maybe another upgrade overwrites that behavior, but that's not intentional. Do you remember your exact modifiers and their order? Then I will look into it.
That you only found three different books is really unlikely. While testing the game I have found nearly every book. Maybe you just have to play for a little bit longer. ;)
I hope you had a great time playing the game despite it's not full balanced yet.
Super cool mini dungeon crawler !
I really like the atmosphere that the music sets, the monster sprites have some nice design to them and i like the nuclear throne style they got, mouse and keyboard fits just right for this type of game made everything really smooth. It was quite fun to see the various different powerups you can endup combining, don't know how many there are but it seems like there's quite a lot of possible combinations.
So i played the web version at first and performance seemed right at first... then i reached level 4 and yeah i see why you warned about this, so i played the windows version then, much better but i do have to note while not game breaking, the game still drops a few frames when there's a large group of enemies, but not as badly as the web version.
Managed to reach the witch but couldn't beat her, the difficulty seemed all right though, but i feel the boss can feel harder depending on which items you encountered along the way so more of an rng thing than a balance thing i'd say.
Not much else to say, had a good time, good job :) !
Thank you so much for your detailed review and for playing my game. :)
[SPOILER]
In total there are 15 books. Three of them are passive and will not effect the attacks. The result attack is also dependent on the order you found the modifiers and some modifiers can be found multiple times. So potentially there are more than 10^9 combinations. But to be fair, most of them will look alike.

After the jam I try to provide a more performant version of the game. I think the issue is based on the many area2D nodes that the enemies have. The closer the submission date got, the more messy the code became. ;)
But nevertheless I am glad that you had a good time playing the game.
Oh wow, yep thats a lot of powerups for a jam game :o , and don't worry i know the feel, i also have some real messy implementation especially when coming closer to the deadline XD
fun like who faar u could see very cool
Very fun!
