I really enjoyed this one, even though it's missing a bit of polish. A picture of how the room is supposed to look should be present, and a way to highlight incorrect objects. Still, the art is very cute and it works with the theme very well.
I also found a bug, where I couldn't resize the last 4 items (books on 3. lowest shelf), but that's bound to happen in a game jam :)
I love the game concept and how it works with the theme. This game reminds me of playing flash games as a kid. I absolutely loved how objects scale would have to be shrunk in order to make others grow into the right place. Really smart!
I do think there are a lot of things that hurt the overall experience though..
The art at times makes it hard to differentiate which items can be sized or not. At the start that’s really cool but after realizing I have like 75 of these items to resize it then becomes… very frustrating. It runs into a problem a lot of point and click games have. It would probably have been good to add a key to highlight all the items that are not scaled properly instead of just showing what is scaled properly.
This becomes even more annoying with the fact that you have to let go of the scaling to check if it’s right EVERY TIME. It would be really awesome if when you got close to the correct scale the item highlighted instead of when letting go. OR an ever cooler concept would be having a photograph reference of the room that the player can pull up (maybe it’s in black and white for added challenge) that will make it so the player has some foundation to work off of.
Other than that, great work!
Thank you so much for playing and the in-depth feedback. These are definitely some points to think about. I also felt that the highlighting should be showing objects that are still at the wrong scale but it's basically a decision about balancing difficulty. We worried it was too easy. I think the level got quite a lot of objects in the end so it should justify making it a bit easier. We've also thought of putting a reference/hints into the room to show the player how it's supposed to look like and I think you are right, it might be good to have it in for real. We might get to a little bit of a post jam version where we wanted to complete some of the art to be shaded but can definitely reevaluate all these points impacting difficulty and eventually frustration. Thank you so much for playing! I am looking forward to playing yours. (I had to be at a convention pretty much right after the game jam deadline but tonight or tomorrow I can finally play submitted games!)
I love the art for this game and the game's concept and how you implemented the theme into your game! That being said, finding all of the items to resize (including scrolls and the books in the closet and the cat itself) and correctly resizing some of the items were a chore, however. There were times where I had to make one item small or large before resizing the other item to its correct size. Nonetheless, I still think this is a solid jam submission.
Edit: I finished the game and found all of items you need to rescale. They are:
-Bookshelf items (35) - 5 books/scrolls on the bottom row of the bookshelf; 3 scrolls on the second to bottom row; 9 books on the third to bottom row; 4 books on the third to top row; 5 books/scrolls on the second to top row; 8 scrolls on the top row; and the bookshelf itself.
-Other items on the left (7) - Dragon head, spider, rocking chair, mushroom on the rocking chair, witch hat, door, and doorknob.
-Chandelier (7) - 6 candles and the chandelier itself.
-Cat (10) - 2 ears, 2 eyes, nose + mouth, head, body, tail, 2 forepaws.
-Other items in the center (7) - Broom, window, hanging plant on the right, table, 2 chairs, and broken glass bottle.
-Items on the right (9) - Picture frame, shelf above picture, fireplace, cauldron, wood, shelf next to fireplace, heart flask, blue potion, and potion holder.
Thank you! It was so much fun working on this. And I get it turned out to be A LOT of items, maybe a little much depending on the patience. It's supposed to be a bit fiddly / puzzle-y with the scaling things smaller and bigger to get certain objects to the correct scale. But I get that it can be frustrating. The bookshelf's insides also are a bit hard to do unless having the whole shelf scaled up for a bit. Really nice feedback and great summary of all the objects.
Really cute presentation, but it really feels like a lot of the game is trial-and-error and pixel hunting - sometimes the scaling controls just fail and snap an object to its smallest size, forcing you to carefully track back and forth until you can grab it and scale it back to a manageable size. The puzzles with scaling order were cool, but they really had a lot of the wind taken out of their sails by how finicky it was. What if the camera slowly zoomed and panned around to eventually fit the entire room? That way there could be a sense of progression as you correctly scale things - maybe starting with the bookshelf and then going to the right half of the room, with the chandelier-door-table-chairs-etc. sequence near the end and the cat as the finale. Not only that, but by zooming in on specific parts you get to tutorialize the mechanics a bit better and have things increase in complexity without having the things you need to scale get so small they run into the pixel hunting issue.
I like your ideas! The puzzling to get the "entangled" objects to their correct size is wanted but I totally agree that it's meh when it gets hard to click things. Would definitely benefit from a zoom. But the idea of solving this in different steps for the different areas in the level is worth thinking about too. Thanks for playing and the feedback!
I love the concept of this game, and the art/music are superb! But, I found it to be a little confusing on figuring out what size the objects were supposed to be + what in the room could be resized. I think if the game worked more as a "spot the difference," where you were shown a correct picture of the room and had to resize it to match, these frustrations would've been lessened. The tutorial video at the start + button to highlight what's the correct size were very helpful, though! Great work all-around, functioned flawlessly!
Thank you so much for your good and honest feedback! Definitely helpful to catch onto the point of frustration for the game.
Really fun idea, and executed on really well! The art is amazing, sound design is incredible, and overall polish is just really good. The only thing I would say is that it is a little tricky to click on stuff, and the dragging to change the size is a little finicky sometimes. But overall, very great game!
Thank you for all this praise! And yeah, totally agreeing on the critique. I hope our team has a bit time to revisit on the pain points. Thanksch!
Cool idea for a puzzle game. I liked the trickiness of the table and chairs, really fits the theme too!
I really liked the game! The puzzle of resizing things so others can move past them is cool. The only thing I can think that could be altered is the cat's nose and mouth were extremely hard to see for me. I spent a good 10 minutes looking for the last item to fix because the glow was not visible when it was that small. Other than that I really enjoyed the puzzle!
Thank you! I agree the cat mouth+nose is quite hard. It can be too small and it's less separate of an "object" than other ones in the game. Thanks for pointing it out!
A super lovely puzzle game about scaling objects to the correct size. The art is outstanding, the SFX and VFX are great, and the music is so charming, too. Honestly, I totally see this as a viable mobile game. Congratulations!
Thank you for your lovely comments!! I loved making VFX for sure!.With a little extra love on camera controls, I agree this could be a cool mobile game. It already kinda works on mobile :D
While most of the gameplay relies on the player's intuition and guessing, I really like the parts where certain objects could only be scaled to its correct size by rescaling an already correct object (like the broom and door, that one was tricky for me). Really great graphics and sound design and pretty fun overall!
Thank you for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed our puzzles. We put a lot of love into this game. It was a lot of fun working on visual polish :D
Love the feel of the game. It all comes together very well. A bit more leeway in the sizing of the object would help.
I love the concept, it's so original! Tho i have some feedback starting with
the good one:
and the bad feedback:
Overall I love this game but its a bit tricky yo play
Very helpful feedback, thank you so much! Agree on all points and we're happy it was enjoyable. These little puzzles where you had to scale things away from the correct scale to resize another one are also my favourite. Again, much thanks!
