Tricky game to get the balance on, but really solid simulation game! Lots of options introduced, but spaced out was a good idea for giving the game a sense of balanced discovery alongside the simulation! Good stuff, y'all!
Very cool idea! It was a bit confusing at first but I started to pick it up after a while. Love the piano music used to show the player what is happening.
This game is quite interesting once you understand what you are even doing. The idea of balancing population is interesting, and I especially like how you create a soundtrack by playing different notes depending on what’s happening in a simulation.
But game kinda lacks feedback. First couple runs you don’t even make any decisions, just run the simulation with no context. This hurts engagement quite a bit, and I think you maybe could make it so that you get upgrade cards mid simulation and can apply them on the fly.
It’s also should be communicated more clearly what happens with pops. I had runs that felt pretty balanced but that suddenly ended saying one species went extinct. And I had runs where I seemingly had only one species, but it didn’t end until it died out.
And some quick UI suggestions, it would be great if your chosen upgrades stayed there after run and didn’t reset, and if when you apply upgrades they would show in stats.
But all in all, great work!
I really enjoyed this game. I took a good hour just thinking about my choices and messing with the math. I look forward to the next game you make :)
This is the first time I've encountered a game with a population-scale concept. I've been really looking forward to a game in this direction. I didn't fully grasp the gameplay, so I couldn't enjoy it to the end, but it definitely has potential! The characters are super cute, and it would be amazing if it evolved into a game where you create something like a terrarium! :)
It's a very cool idea, I like simulations. I think you have room to improve the controls/first screen of the game. A better UI and an easier way to pick modifiers for the creatures would help. I'm also not sure of the value of having to play a card once to see it's effects. It's just a step I need to go through for no reason instead of knowing what it does immediately. Still, really liked it. Good job!
very unique game in the jam, pretty fun trying to maintain balance , art work is nice too
Pretty unique idea and implementation of the theme. The scaling of the population is displayed nicely with a good art direction. Good job for the game! :)
This is a really unique concept for a game and I quite enjoyed it! The animations for the creatures in the menu are great, and the dynamic music is pretty cool, although it definitely needs a bit of work to make it consistently sound pleasing. In terms of mechanics, I will say that it's not very fun to play completely blind, not knowing any of the card's powers, as it's very difficult to deduce what they do from the simulation. I would have prefered if all the cards started off with their effects listed, then by playing with them you can understand what each statistic does. Maybe if you expanded upon this game in future, you could play cards "in real time" as the simulation is running, in order to give certain populations boosts or nerfs? This could add a tactical timing element to things that I think would be pretty fun. Anyway, overall this was a great entry :)
thanks for playing and for the feedback! playing the cards in real-time was actually a feautre we had in mind (and random disaster cards that we’d force players to ues in one population), but in 48h had to be taken away unfortunately. sad part about music is that it won’t play nicely if the simulation that is running is not diverse enough. they are do-re-mi but if only green grows you’ll hear a lot of re :D
The visuals are good, and the piano notes are just on point. I didn't quite get the gameplay loop, to be honest
but keep up the good work
Really cool concept! There is some overlap between the cards that make some not worthy to use in comparison to others, but with some playtesting I could see this grow into a full fledge enjoyable game!
Pretty cool Idea ! The modification card allow a great range of replayability !
I really love the theming here, great interpretation of Scale! This is a game I would love to see expanded and really sink my teeth into, great job!
Great game! A little confusing on how things actually work, but I got to 6000 pts somehow :)
