I was really hoping someone made a game about scaling fish lmao, and enjoyable too! The scaling was satisfying once I got the hang of it, and I really liked all the different types of fish, especially the really big and the really tiny one!

The fish watching you work. Just needs some more sounds and you've got a top selling mobile game on your hands. Haha. Fin.

Cool concept, I scaled and chopped many fish!

I think the scale removal and chopping mechanics are really well done, but it would have been nice if they had sound. However, this is a jam game, and they both feel remarkably punchy even without sound.

I think it was also a nice touch to have overuse of the scaling knife be a factor.

Nice work!

The way you interpreted the theme is good, the art is good, but i didn't understand anything of what i was supposed to do. Maybe there could be better instructions in place to help. I also ran into a freezing issue where the game froze for about 5 seconds when scaling. it's a great concept, it looks good and it seems like it could be fun, but i didn't really understand what i was supposed to do. (sorry if this comment sounds rude)

The dual hand control method is really cool but ran into a weird bug where the game full freezes when trying to descale with right-click. Couldn't rate due to that odd bug :(

Developer(+1)

It is due to the particle, if you wait it out it will be fine after the first particles show. Lesson learned to preload the particle in the loading screen.

Ahh gotcha looks like that was it! I really like the cute fish designs and scaling. I wish there sound effects to really make the scaling addictive

Thanks for submitting your game to the stream! If you wanted to look at it again heres the vod timestamped to your game

I loved the art, the music, and the direction you went with the theme. Good job!

I love how you added a super large and a super small fish at the end. Overall the game is pretty cozy for what you're doing to these fish ^^

Why would you chop off the tail and head? Those are the best bits. Other than that, great game

asides enjoying preparing fish, i felt very guilty playing this game knowing the fish was constantly looking at me :(

I like the idea, but the execution is quite clumsy. After 15min of playing i could not figure out what determined the chop score. There's only a little Light going from yellow to red, it doesn't tell you if you've chopped too much or not enough or what so i never got to bring it up to green. There's also a few bugs and the controls are uncomfortable. You never need to use the two hands at once in the game, so having both instead of just a single one with both control schemes is pointless.

Developer(+1)

Hey thanks for such a detailed comment.
For the chop score, it is based on trying to save as much of the meat as possible - so you want the head and the tail off, but all of the body intact. Generally this will be just behind the gill line, and just where the tail starts. The light is also based on your descaling, i believe, so if you had any scales left, or took off too much and the skin wore through, that would make it hard to get that green! In the future I think i wanna shoot for an interactive tutorial, which should help alleviate that sort of confusion.
The two hands are a bit redundant! I personally play with one when i play, but some people really liked the feeling of holding down the fish and using both hands in that way.
its our first official game jam, so we are just happy to be here :)
Thanks again for playing our game and thanks for your feedback!!

As a vegetarian, I found this offensive. But also kinda fun! Feels kinda cool to be controlling two hands at the same time. Nice work!

Developer

We were trying to ride the line of cute and not being too freaky/gross lol!! Thanks so much for playing!

Removing the scales was satisfying. Was confusing at first but later got a hang of it.

Developer

Thank you for playing!!!

Good game and nicely polished.

Developer

thank you!!!

Creative take on the theme, it feels really good and realistic, I've never scaled a fish, but this is probably what it's like. Great job!

Developer

thank you so much! I haven't scaled a  fish either so, hopefully it hits the mark!

The music and art are so charming, and I love the scaling mechanic, particularly how there’s more resistance to the drag when there are more scales and how you can visually see that the fish is getting descaled. I did have trouble knowing at what point it was appropriate to stop scaling and had to download the game because the web build lagged too much.

Developer

thanks so much for taking the trouble to download it to give it a shot!! We figured out (after the jam ended) that we should have had the particle shader load up before the game really started (like in the title screen perhaps?) to avoid that initial load spike while scaling for the first time. Now we know for next time though!!! lmao
And for the scales, as long as you dont see the pink flesh underneath you are good - i think in the future i want to shoot for a more interactive tutorial so things like that can be explained.
Thanks so much again for playing :)

The controls were a little tricky at first, but once I got the hang of it, it was great! Very creative take on the theme!

Developer

thank you so much!!!

cute fish! I had trouble making the first chop because i felt bad for the fish looking at me :(

But a great concept! love the music playing in the background with all the achievements!

Developer

thanks!!! i know, i feel for them too TTnTT

How cute! I'd thought about fish scaling as an idea, but I think the play on scaling the fish and weighing on the scale is doubly fun!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

yay!! it was such a fun theme this jam, wasnt it? thanks for playing!

Nice chill experience, a little rough around the edges with some lag, and it's unclear why you are given two hands when one suffices. Really liked it, was not expecting that chonker fish, and felt horrible when the fish were following me with their eyes!

Developer(+1)

Yea, a couple of last minute patches to try and fix that.  It does seem to lag less with the downloaded game, I think it is something to do with the particles appearing for the first time.  Thanks for playing!
