It such a lovely concept. Nice graphics and music. However, the difficulty gets way to hard when introducing the "pull" mechanic. I still like the idea a lot, but it needs more work. Still, great job !

Very fun and also challenging. I can easily see this made into a full fledged game. Great work! :)

Cool game! I hoped that the magnet hand would be used to solve levels, but was a bit surprised about the amount of precision that was asked of me, even on the first level (level5) on which the concept is introduced.

Developer

Yeah, I realise it should have been a lot easier to control it so it wouldn't have been so hard. A lot of the levels require precision because I wanted to keep the levels from being cheeseable.

Loved this game! I was legit trying to beat it. Would be amazing if you continued to run with this idea.

The game is very good, very clear, responds perfectly to the commands. I had a good time playing it. Well done :)

Nice work, I enjoyed it! :)

Really fun! Great idea, great execution of the "one bullet" concept, love the feeling of the ricocheting and the magnetism/telekinesis. Good art and sound to boot.

My only nitpick is that the game feels really hard pretty early on, especially because of the sticky walls. But still, really cool game! Love it.

Thank you for your kind words.

This is a cool idea, and I like the game. A boomerang (or "butterang" in the game) is a great way to approach the "sidescrolling shooter with only one bullet" idea.

Design [3/5]: The core mechanic of the game is fun. Throwing a precision shot with the butterang feels so good, and pulling it back towards you is a nice addition. I thought the consequence of being able to guide the butterang with the magnet hand was a really interesting and emergent mechanic of the game, so I applaud you for that. I have two problems with the design that stood out to me:

  1. The level design is frustrating. I like the sticky surfaces that trap the butterang, but I think they're often placed in frustrating places rather than interesting ones. The magnet hand isn't a terribly precise way of guiding the butterang. That isn't a problem all by itself so long as the levels don't require you to do any extremely precise aiming with the magnet hand. The problem is that there are long, upward tunnels with sticky surfaces on both sides, which are extremely unforgiving if you click at just a slightly incorrect moment. Moreover, these sticky surfaces can sometimes completely trap the butterang, forcing you to use the "restart level" button. In my opinion, the "restart level" button shouldn't exist and your levels should be designed in such a way that you should never have to restart the level. There were so many times that I understood exactly what to do to solve the level, but couldn't due to the imprecise controls of the magnet hand. I don't think the controls need to be more precise. The imprecision makes things look cool and smooth visually. However, I do think the level design could be a little more forgiving to accommodate that imprecision.
  2. The enemies aren't fun to fight against. Whenever I came across a level with enemies, I would just stand in one spot and throw the butterang until I had cleared the screen of all the enemies and all of the bullets. Then, I would actually complete the level. The fun part of this game (at least for me) is the puzzle solving: deciding where you're going to stand, what angles you need to bounce the butterang off of to get it where you need it to be, and when to use the magnet hand to change the trajectory of your shot. That's what makes this game fun, not combat and dodging bullets. I think this is the sort of game that would be far better off without enemies. When I finally cleared the screen of all enemies and bullets, I would think to myself "whew! Now I can finally start the level". I don't think that was the intended player experience.

So, overall, it's a really cool idea, but I don't think the design was focused enough (unnecessary combat mechanics) and I don't think the levels emphasized the game's strengths. That second point is disappointing, because I think the game's strengths are actually *really* strong.

Adherence to the Theme [5/5]: It's a sidescrolling shooter with only one bullet. I think it fits the theme nicely.

Originality [4/5]: The idea of a shooter game with only one bullet that you attract back towards you with a magnetic force has been done before (check out Titan Souls for a strong example). However, Titan Souls is a boss rush game with a top-down perspective, focused heavily on combat rather than puzzle solving. This takes the "one bullet" idea and puts it into a physics-puzzle game, which deserves plenty of credit for uniqueness.

Overall, nice job. I like the idea and I'd like to see you continue your pursuits as a game designer!

Technically brilliant, tight controls, and really well designed. Love this.
