Second best game that I've played! (obviously I am not counting our own game) Only two issues and that's it. One: It should be more clear when a house is good enough to continue, and the house should click together when this happens to show it perfect even if you got it slightly off, and two, the mouse doesn't work all that great in the menu, just there though. What a fantastic game, a future mobile classic. The second best game of the jam!

Developer(+1)

Thanks, great that you liked our game.
Very valid points and we will look on them after the jam.

Rate my game pls🙏

Developer(+1)

Already done, I've rated EVERY game in the Game Jam <3

Submitted(+1)

Physics and Graphics are awesome, the menu at the beginning was incredible, but there was some lag, but nice done!:)

Developer

We're glad you liked our game <3

Yeah it's quite heavy on effects that will be optimized as well as it is fetching stuff from firebase at the same time in the start so that has an impact too.

Submitted(+1)

Loved the concept !! like the theme is used perfectly in a fun way. The graphics are very vibrant too. If i am not wrong you mentioned this on the discord? Anyways great game overall keep it up.

Also check out our game , we would love your feedback 😉

Developer

I've played Achieve before and rated it back then but for some reason my comment wasn't there. Maybe it was so late at night I tested I just forgot to post it. Anyway Achieve is visually and aurally very nice game.

Submitted(+1)

This game is easy to play, easy to understand, the mechanics are simple, and the concept is both original and fun, also I like that you can see the highscores, my only complaint is that maybe it could be too simple but even then, it's still enjoyable, so I think that's a minor issue.

Hope to see this project on top.

Also I love the graphics, very unique.

Thank you for playing and reviewing.
We're glad you liked our game <3

Under options you can change the difficulty settings.
Easy (default), Bricks snap to grid and come static.
Normal, Bricks snap to grid but are set as dynamic.
Hard, Bricks don't snap to grid and are set as dynamic.

Thanks for playing and rating!

Really well made game. The idea of rebuilding after an earthquake is neatly executed.

Developer(+1)

Thank you, we're glad you liked our game.

Amazing game and fun to play. I liked the idea of this game though I'm experiencing a little delay on the main menu cursor but overall the game is clean and well made, Good luck

Developer (2 edits)

Thanks for playing the game!
We'll be looking at the start screen programming and effects later on. Currently it is a bit too heavy. There's a lot of physics, background loading (Firebase connections) etc. happening at the same time.

Submitted(+2)

Really good game.

Developer

Thanks for playing and rating!

Addictive game. Feels like Elastomania but with building theme. Great game. I would say: do some small bug fixes and publish it everywhere!

Developer

Thanks for playing!
We've already fixed bunch of stuff in development builds and have upcoming features coming, including a Building Editor.

Submitted(+2)

Title screen feels like does not fit on the game, and I mean this because everything else suits and it's well polished: gameplay, art, smoothness, background, fun...

A great entry!

Developer(+1)

The title screen was made when we had the houses build from actual bricks, but it was way too time consuming so we changed them to shaped blocks and the title screen brick wall just stayed there since it was already done.

Glad you liked it <3

(+2)

Fits the theme perfectly, has very snappy sound effects, also very enjoyable to play. Only need to patch a few bugs to make it perfect.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing in stream!
We have a DevLog about upcoming fixes and changes.

Developer(+1)

So glad you enjoyed the game in the stream today <3

Submitted(+2)

This game deserves all 5 star . Really really awesome game.

Thanks for liking our game!

Thanks for the praise and we're glad that you liked our game <3

Really nice game. Kinda chill with rebuilding which is a nice thing for me. Has a really good graphic. Maybe change the music to little bit more chill and fun and it'll be all good.

Developer(+1)

My version of chill music would be DOOM 2016 BFG Division by Mick Gordon....

Submitted

If that's the case, the game mechanic should be destroying the houses. :P

Submitted(+2)

OMG, I actually really like this game, the graphics are sweet, the audio is good, and its just genuinley fun, very good job, Ima come back later and try to get on leaderboard..

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for liking the game! Please do complete all 10 levels, its starting to be a bit lonely at the top… :)

Submitted(+1)

I had a lot of fun playing this game! My only problem was that it was a bit zoomed out, so maybe in the future you could add an option to zoom in and out.

Developer

Glad that you liked our game!

But, how do you mean zoomed out?
Since it's made to be a still frame until level change.
And zooming in makes the pieces outside of the screen which we didn't want to happen.

Submitted

I meant that sometimes it was a bit hard to place the objects as they were quite small.

Developer(+1)

Ah, the easiest and normal level has a snap to grid function that when the white outlines are lit up it's snapping to that position.
There isn't a snap in function in hard mode though.

Developer (2 edits) (+1)

Did you play in the browser window? Our game is aimed to be played in fullscreen. I've tested the game on 2560x1440 screen all the time and if the game is fullscreen I don't have any problem targeting or placing the bricks.

But like you said, you have problem targeting because the bricks seem small, and you're not the only one. The way we could address this problem is to make first city from larger bricks and gradually make houses from smaller bricks. This way you'll be acclimated to the game mechanics when the difficulty level is where we want it.

Submitted(+1)

I was in full screen and looking back on it wasn’t that bad, but it would be good if you made those improvements!

Submitted(+1)

This was great! I want to see what may be brought to this game after the jam ends!

Developer(+1)

Lots of stuff already done and planned to do afterwards.
From our Devlog post.
https://tulenvaki.itch.io/brick-city-earthquake-rescue/devlog/350161/planned-cha...

Fixes (will be released after GameJam)

  • We've fixed global highscores not fully loading every time. They do now.
  • Talking about highscores. All the profits have € behind them. As it should be.
  • Music looping has been fixed for all platforms
  • Sometimes some bricks will bonk themselves through the ground. That's fixed now.
  • Move the difficulty settings from under the options menu to the contract at start.

Planned features

  • More particles when stuff happens. Smoke etc.
  • Foreground sprites like trees, animals, cars etc.
  • More city sounds
  • Controller support
  • Better touch interface support, including on-screen keyboard
  • More buildings for the earthquake to destroy and for you to rebuild.
  • Building editor
  • Pro difficulty. We didn't have the time to implement this before the deadline so we're trying to get the putting-the-pieces-in-place even more difficult.
Submitted(+2)

Nice concept! Good luck!

Developer(+1)

Thanks, glad you liked it <3

Submitted(+2)

How did you even finish this in 10 days!!! This is so great! Loved it, it's fun and the graphics are so great. I liked how the main menu has the bricks fall and the concept of the game! I don't think there is something to improve about this game lol.

Developer(+2)

It was a buttload of work tbh.
As we're both unemployed atm, we had some excess time in our hands , as well as enthusiasm to create something of our own.

But there are improvements already at works for the game.
Level editor, multiple cities to rebuild, more variety to the blocks, more effects, sounds, graphics in general.
All sorts of fun stuff are to be added once the game jam is over. <3

Developer (4 edits) (+1)

Thanks for the graphics praise <3
On the graphics side. I have basic tileset in Photoshop and I made a script that saves all said bricks with current settings to a folder. All I needed to do was change color or wall type (brick, horizontal panels, etc) and run the script and wait about 30 seconds and I get all the bricks I need with that color and wall type. We even had to ditch one wall type because we went over the itch.io file limit with over 1300 files. The game currently has 840 brick sprites and 26 mortar files.

The crane and bulldozer are both drawn in illustrator and brought into Photoshop to make the actual  sprites.

I used to work in a newspaper as a photo journalist, photo editor and graphics artist for 19 years. so my workflow has evolved to be pretty fast with familiar programs.

Wow thanks for the Information!

Developer(+1)

Oh, forgot to mention that I finished the global leaderboard (Firebase integration) hours before deadline. That's why its not loading correctly in the GameJam version.

Submitted(+2)

In like this game you did some things that I'm not exactly sure how you did them.

I like the idea of it mattering what order you pick up the pieces in, i thought some levels were tedious, and sometimes i would try to get one piece and it would get another.

It made it pretty lax how forgiving the placement could be and i liked the art and SFX. glad i played this one for sure.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

We're glad you liked our game!

I'd love to explain how I did stuff, just ask away and you shall receive <3

For the piece pickup I do a raycasting from bottom of the grabber and when it hits a piece it is identified by it's variable ID.
The raycasting activates when it enters or exits the first piece (or group of pieces).
So to be able to pick up a correct piece from a pile you'd have to position the grabber inside the piece to be picked up.

Try to play some harder difficulties as well as you can change the difficulty in options menu.

Submitted(+1)

How did you make the items snap to the grid when each piece is different? also I've never been able to get a moving crane animation to look that smooth when the cable moves up and down. P.S. I'll try the harder difficulties for sure!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Each piece has an identifier. A mortar with same id for each piece is created on spot at the beginning of the scene. This way we can check and snap matching pieces together when player moves brick blocks with the crane.

Submitted(+2)

i see that is simple yet i wouldn't think of it. Very cool thank you. I forgot to mention i like how easy the game is to just pick up no tutorial even really needed.

Developer(+1)

Thanks!

Developer(+1)

The crane movement is also quite simple, the Sled in the Crane is tweened towards MouseX() and the Grabber X follows the Sled X via tween and the Grabber Y follows the tween of MouseY.

Submitted

that's what I would figure. Thank you!

Submitted

Huge fan of how you made the difficulty work. did not take the easy way out and make it all artificial. but i don't think to change the difficulty you should have to go all the way into settings.

Developer (2 edits) (+2)

Yeah, we're going to move difficulty setting to the contract so it won't be hidden anymore.
