The most terrifying aspect of this game is pressing up to jump!
I kid, I kid...this is a very cool and brutally difficult little game. Stellar visuals, moody score, incredible narrative setup.

Here's the part of the VOD that I reviewed your game if you'd like to see it play tested
I love the idea of the creepy game coming back from the past. I'm definitely going to give this some love after the submission period: I need to help Hyphen know who she is!
Also I died ALOT in the 2nd level, so much so that the game lost faith in me
i watched the vod of you playing and the fact you got one of the two creepy version of the hints early on was kind of sad... made me realize i shouldve made them a lot more sparse, at least early on, because the early hints are actually meant to be useful; you can learn how to bat projectiles away from them and i THINK theres a hint about how to get the true ending. the game didnt lose faith in you - part of the gameboy soul to me has always been games that were tweaked just a little bit too hard, similar to like nes games being like a little bit too unforgiving - and the empty hint twice in a row is also a haunted game effect, not the game running out of hints lol. also, as for the hints, i shouldve made it maybe clearer that theyre meant to be hints for secret collectables that tie into the haunted-ness of the game. i kinda wrote them 2-3 hours before i submitted the project so they're maybe not the best. you need four at the minimum and there are 6 total to get. the second level also isnt the worst that it gets in terms of unforgiving platforming - i believe 3-1 is the level most people have had grief with so far. hope you enjoy the game if you do pick it up after the jam is done and thanks for the play and rating!
Oh no! I don't have the screenshot!
When I said the game lost faith in me, it was when the Tip screen came back blank. It just said "Tip: _______"
Not sure if intentional but it gave me a chuckle. I'm definitely going to give it another go. Or if you ever do a walkthrough, video guide of all the secrets, let me know?
Neat game! The art is very charming and I like the premise of the story, but the overall controls are a bit stiff. Like the jump gravity is too strong, if it was a bit more floaty or responsive as in changing directions mid jump it could make it more smooth. Also the attack hitbox feels too short, I'd just try to avoid or damage boost through the enemies instead of trying to attack. Deflecting enemy projectiles was cool tho. Congrats on the game!
the controlls are a bit weird, is not bad but in my own opinion i think that the enemies could have les health, good game
That opening story adds onto the game and makes the player more invested in the game. I love how the title screen slowly lights up, like one bit is highlighted, then the next and then the title is emphasised. The slow eerie music adds a nice touch. I very much like the pixel art, the layers moving at different speeds greatly adds to the motion of the game. The enemy animations are quite good and I like the range of enemies; the zombies, eyeballs and bats. To be honest, I suck at the game so that's as much as I saw XD but it was pretty good nevertheless. Good work! :)
Maaan, I really wanted to find out what the secret was, but I couldn't get past the caves. The melted looked pumpkins with the projectiles were the end of me. LOL. I'm going to come back and try again later. Really nice submission for the jam. Awesome job!
Great job, I love the ability to alter projectiles with your attack.
