Hi everyone! Tim and all those who helped assemble this list were incredibly helpful for our previous Game Jam. We've decided to bring it back to help out this year. Below is a community-created list of asset locations where you can find and download free assets. Feel free to contribute your own links below!

Textures:

Music:

Sound:

Unreal-only:

Special thanks to these fine folks for helping assemble this list:

Some great links here!

Here's a slightly older site, that features some nice photos to use as a basis for material design.

Assets are under Public Domain CC0.

Great list! Very likely to make use of this.

Maybe I'm splitting hairs, but it's worth mentioning that textures.com no longer offers free credits. You may want to remove it from this list to avoid suggesting that it's an exception to the "no paid assets" rule. It would be beyond frustrating for anyone to miss out over a small technicality like that =)

Thank you for that. I will remove it to avoid confusion :)

Great list, thanks for taking the time to put this together!

Thank you bro  :]

I don't know much about licenses, but what about the Free Assets from Unity Asset Store?

Those are fine.  The only "free" assets not allowed are assets that normally cost money, but are given away for free.  And of course, not all free assets have the same licenses - some require attribution to the author(s) for you to legitimately use freely - so make sure to include such attributions in the game, if necessary.

From the rules on the Overview page:

Free assets only! Using paid assets is NOT allowed, but free assets and those under an open source licenses like CC0 are allowed. Note: this doesn't include paid assets that you got for free, only freely available assets are allowed.

Not sure if still available, but Gaea 1.0 had a free tier for 1024 maps: https://quadspinner.com/compare
It's a terrain tool, node-based.

Another one (for terrain) that i've just found that seems to be free even commercially (don't use the plant catalog stuff though, that's not for commercial use, make your own with it)! https://www.bentley.com/software/e-on-software-free-downloads/
Source/mini tutorial that i've found for it:

If you haven't already, perhaps post a 'free assets' list on gamedev.tv.

+1; I think it was Darren (OboShape) who recently mentioned on the forums that the new site's knowledgebase isn't completely fleshed out yet. I'd love to see a page on there dedicated to free asset sources like these. That's the sort of thing that deserves even more than a forum sticky imo, but any reference to it would be good.
