Nice little game!

I got off the grid after a while, so I walked around halfway into the walls. Combat was a bit slow and it was a lot of just waiting for it to resolve. The game has several promising touches. I like the pistol and knife variations, and the floor puzzle in the beginning. More of those and some more decorations and we got something really good!

Good puzzling, fantastic music, good atmosphere but...as it has been mentioned before...dragged down by the slow and brutal combat. If you tweak that, you'll have a great, classic-feel crawler on your hands.

My favorite part was the puzzle right at the beginning. More of that and less combat would have been great for my taste. The early text was interesting but scrolled too slowly for me so I had to test my patience to read it. I loved the hand drawn monsters too, those were great.

Submitted

The handdrawn graphic are very nice and the movement and battle system work well enough. The battles just take a bit to long, so I dreaded monsters coming up. Tone that down a bit and we have a nice one there. Oh, the sound was WAY to loud!

Developer

There was sound controls in the pause menu. Sorry about that. I tried to adjust the sound but I know the volume of the trap room blew up for some reason. Thanks for playing! More time would have allowed us to better adjust the slow battles..

I tried to beat it, but the combat was just too slow.
I got the misalignment and the no ruby glitch too.

Developer

Thanks for playing. Yeah needed some playtesting to adjust the combat balance. just didn't have time.

Here it is.  I sped it up a bit: Tenessee Wilson and the Search for the Eye of Doom by Cobolt Games
Unfortunately the first 10 minutes got corrupted.

I see you used your gun agains the skeletons almost exclusively.. The gun is highly ineffective agains the skeletons in particular. You were doing great on the door puzzle though.. if only you had rubies!!

Submitted(+1)

You never fight any ruby skeleton and then you don't get any ruby and can't complete the game, right? I think bumping into a red skeleton make you fight an emerald one. If it's the case I think I've seen what the game has to offer.

There are several things I really like. First you took the time to put a real structure with 2 puzzles plus the event with the doors which close, it adds to the pacing, I really like that, we don't all take the time to do that. I also like the movement which basically goes as fast as you click, I also really like the art of the enemies. The combat system is perfectly fine in theory.

Also Hollywood clip ;) .

I think waiting through the enemy turn takes too long especially as your options are limited and you will end up just mashing a weapon button, which would not be a problem if fights took 3 seconds, it should haste when you mash the button and that would be fine.

Overall that was a cool entry, thanks for sharing.

Developer

Thanks, thats right. this was a bug I couldnt fix unfortunately. I agree about the combat. Should have made the enemies a little squishier and easier to hit, but really had no time to test play enough to get the balance down on the combat.. Did you figure out the gem puzzle on the door? just curious? It's a pretty good one. Thanks for playing!

Submitted

I did not in the end since I assumed it could not be done with no ruby. For trying a bit I was pretty confident no 2 same colours can be orthogonally adjacent, there might have been slightly more but that's as far as I got with no ruby.

I think this one has a lot of potential. The pun/title screen got a laugh out of me. The puzzles were good and made it feel like an adventure in an old temple and the combat could be fixed up to be pretty enjoyable. I did get off grid every time I played through, the rest/search buttons don't seem to do anything and the combat is brutally difficult and after 4-5 tries I've given up. I think with some polish this could go from "good" to "great"

Thanks so much for the feedback.

Could have done with an extra day of playtesting to try and make it flow a bit better.. Of grid huh? that is odd. Haven't experienced that. The Search and Rest buttons in fact do nothing.. They are things I didn't implement, I thought I turned them off..

LOL

nice work!

thanks, I'm the low tech art guy. My brother (cobolt games) did the programming.

Very nice use of the theme! You're really exploring some ruins, and falling into multiple traps. The hit chances are a bit low, so I escaped most battles! I'm a coward.

Developer

Yeah, Could have used a little more time to balance the battles.. Can be tricky. Thanks for playing!

from what i played it is really nice, but it crashes randomly in my virtual machine. sometimes mid fight and i am not able to continue. i really liked the idea and the visuals of this

Developer

Wow.. random crashes? I really have not experienced this.. Thanks so much for trying it out! sorry you weren't able to experience the game completely.

works great on my local machine. just the vm had problems. but it really takes up a lot of cpu usage (which i think the problem was for the vm)
