Nice start to a game and you've noted a good list of things to add in the future.
For feedback:
In-game, you may want a small description saying that you are an alchemist and need to restock your supply of potions (something like this). Otherwise it's easy to wonder, 'why am I making a potion of courage'...after I make it, will I use it? Fight something? Need courage for something? Take the description from the game page, and add it in-game.
Appeared that gameplay was designed to get first item on list, put in pot, get second item on list, put in pot...this certainly worked, however, my instinct was to just go gather all the items and return to pot. For recipe one, this was not a problem, however recipe two required a strict order. It was also required to have the precise amount, not too many, or it keeps adding beyond what is needed and you fail. Also, pot might be allowing multiple interactions while adding item animation is playing. As example, for recipe one, if I gather only two philosopher caps, press 'E' to put one in pot and then keep pressing E multiple times in a row while the animation is playing, when the animation is done and time to add the second, it is a fail...as though more than one were already added.
I like the jars you have at the very start to show what each mushroom looks like. Seeing those jars didn't register for me until the third time I started back at the deck. I think due to coloring they blend in so much that I didn't really notice them enough to realize what they were.
The environment and forest sounds were very effective to make me feel isolated in a large forest. Color palette made it feel like Autumn.
This was a really peaceful experience
well done :)
A cute cozy game, I really like taht simple concept and i'm hyped to see a less buggy version of it ! Some of the textures seem over texturised (like around the cauldron or some rocks and trees), but overall i like that style. I'm looking forward to see what it can become, after the jam ! GG !
I loved the art style, easy to understand objectives, awesome environment with relaxing nature sounds in the background...this was an enjoyable experience. Nice job
It was a pleasure to walk the groove, I like the graphics that resembles Hexen 1 - 2 in terms of geometry simplicity. The sound suited perfect, I think it could use more additional sfx for walking, jumping in water, getting mushrooms. I wish you good luck in fixing the potion brewing.
Good job!
Wow very calming vibe. The environment had a lot of character and was much bigger than I expected! I like how the potions progressively encouraged searching different areas of the forest. If you added actual potions like you said, I could totally see that adding a lot to the game by opening up different areas for exploration through potion use. What a great submission!
The art is pretty neat. I did have problems, like many others, with the potion itself... had the correct mushrooms and then after having collected them all for minutes you want to put them in and then boom, failed. Tried again and still didnt work >w<' Other than that, I liked the concept of collecting ingredients in the woods, which is very cozy indeed
Yeah, so sorry about that, I might still have a couple bugs in there. I kinda ran out of time, didn’t do a last playtest and was just like “ehh, its gonna be fine”..
My game also has some bugs with the counting of lives lol, still haven't figured out what causes it exactly, also ran out of time. It happens!
But since the main goal of your game is literally to collect ingredients for a recipe, and then that doesn't work, it's really frustrating xD
The art style is very good. I like the idea and design of the game :> It felt very cozy when walking in the woods and picking mushrooms. It would be very good to change the order of mushrooms before putting them to the cauldron. Other than that, the game was fun to play!
Nice 8bit styled 3d game, nice collection mechanic, just I kept failing at it even when I had picked the correct amounts xD
Really like the art. The mushroom picking is also really fun.
I would have liked it better tho if failing would completely reset the game. Maybe let me have a checkpoint at every potion.
Also I wasn't able to figure out what "grows near water" means, since every mushroom in this game grows near water. Or I just wasn't able to see a pattern.
But anyway, great submission, really enjoyed the style and atmosphere.
Thanks, I really appreciate it.
Yeah sorry about that, it should probably read “immediatley next to water”, but I might have also borked the mechanic. I’ll try to rethink the whole thing a bit after the jam.
I really like the gameplay loop of the game. The art is also very nice, having a slight whimsical and mysterious atmosphere to it that makes you want to explore. My only complaint is that the camera should just be a tiny bit higher, as going through the pixelated grass head on strains the eyes a little. After seeing the game page, I'm excited for further development!
Thank you for the nice words, it means a lot to me, its my first published game :) I totally agree on the grass, I also noticed that its kinda uncomfortable to walk through it. I want to clean up a bunch of things after the jam anyways.
Due to my pc not having a graphics card it was difficult to run the game it was very slow but other then that I liked the retro art style it felt very cozy listening to nature however could you add a graphics options for those like me with no graphics cards?
Cool game. I think this is propably one of the coziest games ever. I like the retro art style.
