This was great. I laughed out loud when I ate my first strawberry and then proceeded to smash into a rock and kill everyone!  Great job making a complete game!

Super cute! I couldn't help but yell when the cat got me and started eating all my chicks. "Aaaaaah!"

Loved the "experimental chicken farmer" too, lots of fun - especially the audio and speed buffs.

honestly it was very addicting
is the strawberry speed burst random?

Developer

So the strawberries are programmed that once collected they will appear in a random location but never at the same point as a "Rock". Same with the eggs, The idea is you ever want to avoid them as they will more often then not cause a game over, or collect them to get away from the cat. The actual speed of the strawberry boost should always be the same but would not be totally surprised if there is something in the code that mixes it up. Only had 4 days and we worked on the Friday and Monday in our full time jobs :).

Stop eating all the baby chicks! Loved it.

Very cool idea! I like the aesthetic design and the farm idea is really cute! Chickens are a neat concept for this theme too!

Really cool game! I love the types of pickups, they work well together. The idea of using chickens is great and it fits the theme well too! Nice job all around

the game is fun, the menus are a bit ugly

Developer

haha the menu was just there to work with no effort given to the design or aesthetics of it. I guess we could have put in SOME Effort but once they worked we focused all effort back on the game.

I like this idea ! I don’t think anyone thought about snake so, good job mate!

I would just say that I would have prefer strawberries to spawn and generate, it was a bit static and once you ate all of them, it’s a bit slow :P

Nice job overall ! :)

Developer

Hmm I just checked it and the strawberries do indeed regenerate so not entirely too sure what happened. Can not lie, did not add any code to stop them from spawning on top of the eggs, so maybe that was the issue? Anyhow, I am glad you tried it out:).

Oh! Maybe I missed it! My bad

Hahaha, the cat also eats YOU???

This is a fun take on Snake - adding something that chases you. I like it! Game jam games are the perfect chance to experiment with the simple classics and you nailed it. Well done!

I think the strawberries need a little tweaking. The speed boost almost felt like a detriment due to the loss of control. Since they're there to help put distance between you and the cat (a good thing to add!), why not try making them slow down the cat instead of speed you up? Maybe collecting a yarn ball or catnip leaf stuns/distracts the cat for a few seconds, letting you put distance between you?

Cool game. And congrats on making this in such a short time. Keep making cool games!

Yarn ball to send the cat away in the opposite directions actually sounds pretty good. There were quite a few different item ideas we have but sadly most of the time went on working out how to animate and control all of the hatching chickens in C# with a big list haha. We are still quite new to all of this.

Thanks for playing :).

Ooh, yeah, that sounds like it'd be a real challenge. Now I want to try programming this mechanic because it sounds like a super satisfying problem to solve.

Snake, but with chickens and a pesky cat... I like it! I played for several rounds improving on my score each time. I liked the strawberry speed burst, but quickly realized that I had to worry about that speed ramming me directly into a wall!

Not sure if it was just my screen, but, the top of the game was cut off while I played so I really couldn't see my high score which was a bit of a bummer.  None the less, I had a fun time. Nice job!

Nice game, those speed boosts are great for getting out of trouble, although they get you into trouble half the time.

Nice take on the classic snake game.

Hard but fun game man! Glad to see we weren't the only ones that thought of making a snake game :)

Developer

haha yeah. We just quickly came up with an idea and went for it. Having to work a job on Friday and Monday obviously meant we were short for time but I think everyone was in the same situation.
