Wow. So impressed by how polished the UI, battle animations, cutscenes, soundtrack and pretty much everything is!
I also liked the battle sprites though they seemed a bit lower resolution than many of the assets. Could swear I've seen those battlers somewhere (though the main char was custom I'm pretty sure).
Mechanics were solid.
I really dig "health as a resource" in battle systems but I'd never seen it used as an exploration resource before, except maybe annoying damage floors.
The shield was a good inclusion to add a timing mechanic to the big sentry bots (unfortunately I didn't figure this out until burning 3 Health vials haha).
My only detraction in terms of the battle system is that using TP on non-boss fights is detrimental because you probably need 50 or 100 TP to use the alpha strike if it turns into a DPS race (which by definition it always is). Counter-intuitively, you get so many MP vials that MP is actually a pretty plentiful resource and TP is at a premium, which is backwards from most games. It's a pretty small and subjective gripe really, it was still tons of fun and next time I'd just use the MP abilities more.
Hi mooglerampage and wow thanks so much for your kind words and I'm super happy you enjoyed the game and its polish! ^_^ <3 The battlers are indeed from milano cats' and the main char is custom made! ^_^ :D But yap, I do understand your point regarding TP being quite a challenge to charge up unless you receive tons of dps from the enemy first, but yes, utilizing MP-based skill is still applicable here. :) Since its designed to be flexible in terms of you can win battles! :D Once again thanks so much for playing! Oh my, I should really start checking out the entries in this jam, been on a long hiatus after I finished this. :D Will check out your entry as well, it looks super interesting <3
Heeeeey! Nice mechanic. It was fun to go against the clock. I like the battle system, nice skills and nice setup with shields and stuff.
My only complaint is that I dont think you can beat the last boss without one health potion(forgot the name). I was out of them so I backtracked to the the vending machine. But what if I dont have any money left=? Or what if the player didn't discovered the vending machine?]
They would be softlocked. Otherwise, very neat entry!
Hello VaroClaw and thanks so much for playing the game! ^_^ :D So glad you enjoyed! And yes, it can indeed be a huge challenge finishing off the boss with one health potion, so I understand that. :D Hmmm, hopefully, most people wont get soft-locked with that :O
It's another fantastic entry by Starmage! Everyone here has said what I would say. Great job!
Thanks so much for the kind words KV_Kingdom! ^_^ <3 So happy you like it as well!
Really enjoyed this Starmage! Very well done, polished, and just right in length for a jam. It has a story arc while establishing that it's part of a larger story/universe. Had similar battle mechanics to the Cyber Lord game, so I felt at home. Was even simpler with one character and just a few mobs.
The memory leak was a pretty cool mechanic that made the game feel dangerous, although there were plenty of memory spots to regain health, and a decent amount of healing items as well. I liked the battle music as well.
This is the kind of gold standard for jam games. Just about free of bugs (as far as I could tell), concise, wastes not a second of time, and tells a complete story. I wish we could see more entries that have the love and care invested in them as this one. I think the only thing I noticed is the word "burm" instead of burn.
Great job Starmage! I think you've got this jam thing down really well at this point.
Hi Human, I just read this now since I got into a long hiatus after this jam, but oh my! Thanks so much for your kind words, and it means a lot to me that you enjoyed and consider it as gold standard for jam hames! <3 I can definitely say the same to your project as well as the ones done by our amazing community! ^_^ :D And oh my, I did miss a typo there with "burm" huh? My bad. xD But yah, thanks so much again, Human! It means a lot! ^_^
Great game! It looked beautiful, great job on the lighting.
The balance was excellent, victory was likely but not certain as long as you're tactical with all of the cool skills. A little danger always adds spice to the playthrough, and to victory when it's achieved.
Good story, and the memory orbs were a nice extra.
Thanks so much 3b48! ^_^ So happy you enjoyed the game and enjoyed the balance as well! :D <3 thanks so much for checking out~! ^_^
The scenes are incredibly well made, I thoroughly enjoyed watching them! I also found the health mechanic challenging and interesting. This was really fun, great job!
Thank you so much and I'm so happy you enjoyed them and the scenes! :D <3 It means a lot that you had fun! ^^
I like the music, the story and most of the gameplay. It needs a skip button, died at least 2 times. But the game isn't unfair, it's challenging. I believe it's better to fight the guards instead of running away, that's a little odd.
Thanks so much for playing and I'm happy you like it! And yeah, I'm glad the game isn't unfair and is challenging for you. As that is my intention! ^_^ <3 I could defo use a skip button too tho! :D
Starmage can't make simple games, like a Pong or something like that. No, this game has good music, good design => We can 'feel' the emergency and be as implied as the hero in his attempt to free himself. Top of that the battlers are really nice and the battles are challenging. No, it's not pong. We must rate this high now...
Aww thank you so much ManuGaming! I really appreciate your kind words once again and I'm so happy you enjoyed! ^_^ I really hope to improve more in the future!! <3
