Fun game! The music was great and I liked that there were so many items around to find.
Yay for magical girls!
Your game is a great example of how to make both the RTP and the built-in combat captivating. The small maps make it really easy to navigate through the game, whereas the combat felt satisfyingly balanced. Personally I appreciated the small number of skills. Plus adding voice acting to them made me feel like actually playing an anime.
The ending was brutal. Even more shocking than Madoka's Episode 3. Good job!
Them onions thou....
Very well done. *sniff* I have a little cold so *choke* you know the . . .*sob* tears are just allergies.
Seriously though, you really captured those emotions well in such a short time. I think myself and all players were rooting for Cassie the whole way and you took that connection and. . . just really got me. The pacing of the battles and the storytelling scenes was perfect, and neither went on for too long. Giving a voice to the MC was a great idea, and just made her such an endearing character. Battles were about right for a jam. Pretty easy. Lots of exploration rewards which was cool. I enjoyed coloring between all the battles.
I try to offer some helpful suggestion, but I don't know what to say here. Maaaaybe the battles could have had more variety. Maaaybe some skill learning progression? Learning Amethyst Avalanche after a couple battles might have made it a bit more satisfying to fight. Some skills linked to finding more crayons? That's all that comes to mind, but maybe Cassie and her story are perfect just the way they are. Great jam entry.

I made a playthrough video of your game with my feedback:
Thank you so much for the feedback, I really appreciate it.
There is so much right with this game that it's hard to find something to criticize. Everything is customized and crafted to fit the game and serve its story. The writing is top-notch, the battle skills are balanced and modified to suit the experience (complete with voice acting, no less), and the game loop is straightforwardly satisfying. While this game doesn't attempt to break the mold like some of the entries in this jam, it does serve as a shining example of how one can use the RTP (plus some custom assets, such as voice acting) to tell a compelling story wrapped in a satisfying gameplay experience. Way to go!
Thank you so much for the kind words.
WOW.
I enjoyed so much your entry. I like how almost everything was interactable and you get rewarded with bunch of items. The voice acting was really good and make the default battle system so much better. But your writing was the thing i liked the most. I cried at the end and that is something not every dev accomplishes on their players. Really, really nice work here Princess Bananabelle!
Wow, I'm so glad to hear it had such a strong impact. I'm really happy you enjoyed it and thank you so much for leaving a comment.
I really enjoyed how this game played out! The castle and monster aesthetic was pretty great and fits the storyline. When I first played this game, I didn't quite know what to expect based off of what the previous comments said, but once I started getting into the game, everything started to fall into place, and a feeling of dread stayed with me as I continued. However, the ending made that feeling pay off to create a bittersweet ending which was further exemplified by the cutscenes that appear after each "boss". The battles were very simple as well which helps casual players get through the game without much rage which helps not add any extra baggage that might slow down the pacing. Overall, I really enjoyed this game's storyline and gameplay!
First off, the music was fantastic. I loved the aesthetic and design of the game as well. I really liked the story, as bittersweet as it was. I wish it was a bit longer, but I enjoyed it while it lasted. Really cohesive adventure, but I wanted to get to know the characters more. Awesome entry!
I like the details of this game, like the childtoy-looking monsters. Pretty emotional and heartbreaking.
