This game fits the theme because while you may not see anyone else with you, there is something lurking in the shadows.
Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
I used some royalty free sound effects (still edited most of them a bunch) and fonts, but other than that I made everything from scratch.

I hate you with every fibre in my being. 5/5 in all categories.
god this was terrifying, I can't even write a review I'm shaking too much
I was catching myself forcing myself to breath you did a great job keeping the suspense. The notes left behind some of them were difficult for me to read because of the way the font flowed into each other, the grainyness of the screen did also mess with my vision to the point I had to stop playing it bothered my eyes how it went from super grainy to low grain. I appreciate the effort you did a good job from what I could see. Thank you and good luck.
I'm sorry the effect bothered your eyes, hope you were still able to enjoy what you could.
I was able to get to the 3rd note, what I did see did set up the ambiance of fear quite quickly and it maintained the whole time I was trying to get through the maze, but yeah the grainy effect was difficult to see through, but on the same token i see how it added to the effect of dreamlike state.
Yeah, the grainy effect was supposed to impair your vision and add to the ambience but it does fade in and out. I don't expect anyone to try and play the whole game like that :P
Scary games are really not my thing, but this game does a very good job. The ambientation is really uneasy, you are in tension all the time. The best thing as some other people pointed out already are the cards, they are really unpleasing to read. Loved it.
One of the best scary games in this jam!
Nice Horror game.... Scary but Entertaining
It gives me backrooms vibes really cool game !
Not really a fan of horror games, but decided to give it a try. The graphics, though simple, are very effective. The horror atmosphere is definitetly there, though, I have to admit, the scariest thing in the entire game were the letters, since I'm pretty bad at reading calligraphic english xD. I also wonder, whether the red door in the end was an actual ending, or just one of the ways to die.
Overall great experience. Well done!
Absolutely amazing in atmosphere! I am playing near a window open to a bright sunny day and I got shivers from walking these claustrophobic corridors.
Incredible touch with the notes, one of the last ones that was unreadable made me very uneasy!
I liked the graphics, its deterioration near the end really added to the feeling.
I'm not sure if it was intentional or if I was imagining it, but there seemed to be moments when something was near, though I turned around and there was nothing there.
Kudos on making such a simple and genuinely creepy experience!
The overlapping objects, the unnatural dents and loops, the flavor of Liminal Space at its best!
Amazing game! The atmosphere is incredible. Very scary. Being able to only play once is a great trick and adds to the tension a lot. The pixelize effect works great (I like using it too :p ).
My only issue (despite me being a wuss and playing horror games with 20% volume) was that the later notes were very hard to read for me especially since it seemed that after picking them up they kept getting blurrier.
Very cool! Very Spooky. Can definitely see some backrooms inspiration. Loved the pixelation shader. Wondering how you did it. I made one for my game and it turned out quite different. In any case, hope to see more :))
Believe it or not I didn't even know the backrooms was actually a game until a day ago Lol.
The pixelation is just a custom image effect shader on the Camera. For the pixelation I just multiplied the uvs of the render texture by X, round them to integers, then divide by X to get a pixel effect where X is how many pixels in the given dimension. For the noise I just had 5 noise textures I looped through assigning to the shader every couple of frames. The shader then just mixes everything together with different weights I can change via scripts to increase the intensity (hopefully that all makes sense).
I could send you the code if you're interested, but it's not very readable Lol.
Sounds pretty complicated :)) Not sure if I follow all the way, thanks for the explanation tho <3 In any case, the effect works great! If I had t complain about one thing tho, its that the shader makes the game very hard to play towards the end. Maybe this isn't the intended effect, but I got stuck in the maze of rooms for a good while, barely being able to discern what was on screen before I could find the ending
This game was horrific! Sent shivers down my spine on multiple occasions. My only regret is not seeing if the gun worked... Speaking of the gun sound design was great too!
Glad I could help with the sound design
I gotta admit, I did chicken out of this lol. The atmosphere was really good, it reminded me of the Backrooms, if thats what its supposed to be based on. Those letters were really well written, and that grain/noise effect was really good, too! Great job on this! :D
Thanks for the feedback. Believe it or not I haven't even seen any of the backrooms memes besides some yt thumbnails
I jumped Ez bait. Points for the gun cocking sound.
The game kept sending me shivers up my spine, every time I looked behind me I got goosebumps, those notes really helped with making me scared, and the gun made it even scarier because the note said it has 1 bullet, great game design, scary af, good stuff!
Simple and effective!
The trend of minimal, straight-to-the-gut horror games now is easy to take on but, from a player's perspective, tough to execute -- especially if you're looking for a quality horror experience. This game achieves that.
Everything here is minimal, from the sound design to the graphics -- however, this is purposeful. It can look easy to pull off, but I'm sure it not -- great job!
Additionally, I appreciate the UI efforts to adjust sound and sensitivity via number keys. It's the kind of feature I hope all similar types of games take a cue from.
Overall -- fun game; I recommend it and look forward to future efforts!
Love the look, the gun while I couldn’t use it was smooth to aim with, I was wandering around rooms and didn’t realize till the end that everything was changing! Great work.
Very good use of post processing to create film-like feel! Overall a very cool game
Great work Rate mine also.
Creepy noises, suspenseful atmosphere, and making me point around with a gun in a really paranoid way. Nice work
