Gah that was really scary, ummm I may have... welll you know... chickened out? Like the demon dudes spawned in the maze then I just noped my way out, I was not expecting it to suddenly get so terrifying.

Buuut what I did play through was neat! When I first entered the maze, I missed the book that gave you the map, tho fortunately happened to loop back round. Then those danger signs all over the place was uh... concerning, I certainly was looking over my shoulder after that. I was a bit stuck on the code for a while but figured it out eventually. And I really appreciate the settings, funny that the audio is off by default, but the one setting I wish you had was brightness, though maybe that's a bit backwards for a horror game.

It was an interesting experience though, the different story elements were intriguing and the polish on menus + loading screens was impressive. Whilst the spooks weren't for me, you definitely did a good job on the horror aspect!

This game looks gorgeous! The voice acting was really nice too! Great game!

Lovely game. Very well thought out, polished, and intriguing. The lack of audio was a bit distracting though and I think could have added another element of suspense to the game.

Developer

bro there is audio you just have to turn it on in the settings

Ah I did see that after I already submitted things. Apologies

This was amazing! It's clear a lot of work went into this, and I'm impressed by how complete this game feels for just a week of development!

Highlights:

  • The clue about "looking to your friend" was pretty clever
  • I was a bit mesmerized by the swirling streamers during the hallucination sequences
  • The map maze was fun to figure out! It'd be nice to indicate where the robot is at least to indicate a starting point.

Some Problems:

  • The sound was off by default! I assumed that you'd left out the sound altogether until I went back and checked the menu
  • The flashlight doesn't seem to do anything.
  • The voice acting was ripped from another source without license. Good thing you're not selling this for money 😉

Keep up the good work!

Developer(+1)

thx for the feedback :)

  • the starting point is the bottom circle (i could't add the current player position on the map because this feature would have taken too much time for only a week)
  • the volume is off by default because i forgot to detele the playerprefs (but at least it doesn't hurt you hears like most games and you are able to edit the volume at anytime while in game)
  • the flashlight is automatic (it create a glowing effect on the player to see better)

It's amazing how much content this game have, knowing that it was made in a week! Graphics looks nice, the puzzle were cool as well and I love that the player speaks Japanese with english subtitles :)

I did find a bit tricky in the maze tho, finding the code and escaping the evil.

Really nice game mate. Enjoyed from start to end. All goo. Five out of five.

Wow this is an amazing game. The polish on this is phenomenal. Honestly there is not much I can feedback. So whatever I say here just take it with a grain of salt because the game is really good already.

Menu:

  • Having the volume on automatically is a must especially when the audio is this good. Some players will not go into settings and will miss all the volume.
  • For resolution scaling, you don't need to do this at all, but a pretty cool video about ui scaling vs assets: Why Do Games Keep Doing This?
  • What would be extremely cool, especially with this low mood scene in the title, was if the title screen wasn't static. There could be particle effects from the light source or something.

Game:

  • Controls could be explained better whether that's on your itch page or in game. Press E to pickup, Hold shift to sprint. I  thought I had to press a button for the flashlight, that was until I looked down and realised I'm glowing.
  • There's a few spelling and grammatical1 mistakes in loading screen, dialogue and in the book. Nothing immersion breaking though so I wouldn't worry about it. Would I be right in saying English isn't your first language?
  • When I first landed in the maze, it was really hard for me to orient myself on the map. When I got the map, I couldn't tell if I was in the bottom right or bottom middle. So I pretty much ran around and ended up at the bottom right of the map and for me I could then orient myself. So what I'm trying to say is maybe the starting room position or the starting area design could be done better and more recognisable.
  • The maze is pretty easy to navigate but you can miss a few corridors.
  • It was a bit confusing having the danger show on the map but they don't appear until after you input the code.
  • No items spawn in until you pick up the map, I realised this as I was trying to speedrun it. A great way to force players to pick up the map though!

What I LOVED:

  • I loved how you used lighting to direct the players attention to the next thing! It was superbly done!
  • The post processing worked really well, especially with the monsters and lighting!
  • I'm happy you never get a good look at the monsters cause it continues to add to the creepy and frightening experience. In my opinion, once you get a good look at the monsters, it becomes a lot less scary.
  • The tiny details in the book and on the robot, I LOVE! Adding that into the game rather than hey pick up a note, here's the code. I really appreciate that!
  • I love the dialogue however as someone who knows a fair bit of Japanese it's funny hearing the dialogue and text not match up.

Amazing game! Will be following you to see what you make in the future.

bro I really appreciate the time and effort put in this well written review thx :)

my though:

Menu:

  • I messed up when uploading the game on Itch.io so the volume Playerprefs were set at 0 by default *my fault*
  • for the resolution I tried my best to accommodate all players so in the settings there is options like (Fullscreen, show fps,1920x1080 etc...) because I play in 4k and for the UI scaling to not be miss placed I set canvas to fit with screen size and if blurry, upscale resolution.
  • for the screen title I wanted to add a shake effect (walking effect) with particles but I only had a week and I had so many bugs to fix that I didn't have enough time to finish :(

Game:

  • I didn't wanted too much UI in game for the player immersion and I like the fact that you have figuring out what to do and how to do it like in Little Nightmares (my favourite games) or Inside. however I totally agree with your point with the flashlight !!! I didn't realise it but I should have polished this part a lot more.
  • for the spelling mistakes I cant defend myself lol :) I'm French...
  • for the map I agree its a bit confusing but the way u pick up the map (facing forward) is the way it supposed to got. The red circle on the bottom is the starting point.

  • u can miss corridors true its on me...
  • I could have updated the UI to show the danger only after but I though that players would not open the map again so I decided to put it in the first place
  • I had a feature were all the lights of the maze are turned off (apart from the ones near the map and flash light) until you pick them up but I was scared that some players would still got in the dark and get lost for ever lol :D

For the dialogues I was praying no ones knew Japanese ;)  (Im too broke to pay someone for the voices LOL)

All over thanks for the review You're in the 1% of players that got trough the maze :)

Haha, no worries. Once again all your points make sense. Whatever I said, just take it with a grain of salt because this is an amazing game, it was so good I added to my little community post showcasing some awesome games. If you're interested in other games that are on your calibre  https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-8/topic/2329612/criminally-underrated-games-you-should-check-out

However regarding the danger points, just a suggestion. Instead of putting them on the map, you could make audio cues with 3D sound. So when you walk into the corridor after inputting the code, a sound of a monster plays on your right making you look at the monster coming from the right. A checkpoint could also be placed at that point.

But I'll have to check out little nightmares. Is it a steam game?

Developer (2 edits)

yea I agree, a check point after the code would have been nice but their is already 3d sounds of the monsters. Oh yea for little nightmares, it is on steam. I recommend playing the the second game first (because in the game chronology the second one come first) or do as you wish.

you can download it for free on REMOVED :

  • little nightmares I : LINK REMOVED
  • little nightmares II : LINK REMOVED

Personally after finishing the games twice I decided to support the devs by buying the premium version on steam (also to get achievements :)

For those who struggle on the maze part the first two digits of the code is 31

btw if u read the book carefully there is actually 2 ways to get the code. First way is by looking a the numbers on the right of the book and for the number that is missing in each paragraphs you have to input the number in the order of the paragraphs (for example if 5 is missing from the second paragraph the second number of the code is 5). The second way (Easier) is to look at the serial number of the robot (when you take the book from his hands you can see it).

First off, this game looks AMAZING. you absolutely nailed the audio, mood, and atmosphere!! But i couldn't really get past that maze part, I couldn't see well from the lighting, which made it a bit frustrating for me. I also noticed a typo in the loading screen that says "enemie" when its supposed to be spelt "enemy", But other than those two critiques, you did an amazing job on this game, especially for only a week! :D

Developer (2 edits)

thx for the feedback :) I really appreciate ! yea I noticed that not many people could get past the maze. you need to pick up the items at the start (there is a flash light)

Very great game. I couldn't figure out how to use the atm machine thing but from what I managed to do it was very fun.

Developer

the code is hidden in the book and on the robot serial number :)

Submitted

I actually couldn’t figure out how to use the machine not the code.

Developer

oh... so for the machine you need to pick up the book and the map for it to spawn (my bad I didn't t understood you question lol :)

Fantastic looking atmosphere in this game. Pretty cool.

I loved the transitions between the areas, the atmosphere/mood was very creepy and unnerving, I loved it. Surreal experience. (Audio was muted on start for some reason, good thing there's a settings menu though, nice touch)
Game feels very polished. The dangerous things scared me lol. Good job!

Developer

Thanks a lot for the compliments :) yea I spent hours polishing to make the experience  as smooth and pleasant possible
